Wood Burning Stove In a Wood Shop Is It Safe?
What I say in this video is just of my own opinion. I hope you can find this information helpful. I forgot to mention as well it’s a good idea to have a Co2 detector in your shop as well when running a stove (just to be on the safe side).

    Thanks for these awesome videos. I’m trying to build a fairly basic shelf, except I need it to fit inside of a closet with a small door, so I need to be able to assemble (and hopefully disassemble it when needed) easily inside the closet. Also, I have limited tools, I do have a miter saw, a circular power saw, some chisels that I’m terrible at using. I’m considering getting a router, as they are fairly affordable and don’t take up much storage space, not sure what bits I’d need (and bits seem pricey). I’m trying to avoid buying a table saw, as I don’t have the space for it, and do as few cuts as possible, so I’ll be getting pre-cut 2x4s for the legs (I think) and pre-cut shelves (48x15.75). Since I want it to be easy to assemble and disassemble, I’m trying to avoid screws and angle brackets as much as I can. I’ve been researching wood joints. Thinking something like a half lap or dovetail to prevent the frame that would hold the shelf from sliding in or out of the legs. Also considering trying to do dadoes in the main legs for the shelves to go into, but I’d still need something to make the whole thing stay together, and to stop the shelves from sliding out. Or maybe just a mortise & tenon with some soft of a peg, to stop it from sliding out for the long way part of the frame, and maybe halved lap joint for the short way to hold it all together. Hopefully this makes sense, any suggestions for joints and tools needed?

    Really cool design but instead of making your boards thinner and weaker you should always want to make them thicker and stronger to hold bigger heavier people and for them to last longer because those boards look so skinny they honestly look like they would only hold children or very small 100 lb. women only but either way cool video!

    I know this video is now 5 years old, but @4:37 you use contact cement, which currently on Amazon is $15.99 and up, while 4 Rockler cookies are $18.99. It seems wiser to just buy the Rockler ones. Can I use other glues that I have around the house, like Gorilla glue or does that sticky material require contact cement?

    Most insurance companies here will not insure a shop or garage with a woodstove for heating. With oil and gas fumes present it is not good to have around a fire. I might go with an outdoor woodstove setup and blow the heat into my shop sometime in the future. For now I will bring up the temperature with my torpedo heater and let the overhead electric heater maintain it for the day, which does work pretty good.

    I'm used to larger, corded routers czcams.com/users/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z so this was a different experience for me. Basically, this is an incredibly sweet machine, fits well in the hand, etc. It has slightly less power than I'm used to, but that's understandable. Maneuvering freehand takes some practice. These days, it's especially nice to be able to avoid power cords. This is above the level of a hobbyist but below a pro level.

    I want to wrap securteer handles. They’re not cylindrical and i don’t know how to work out the width I’d need to cut the leather. I’m guessing 1mm thick veg tan is suitable. Given that you want a tight fit and stretching the leather ,how did you work out the width just on a simple cylinder wrap?

    • @JonathanDevine
      @JonathanDevine Před 10 měsíci

      Scrap leather strip, wrap around to overlap, scratch the spot, unfold and measure. Make the piece slightly smaller, but only slightly. I'd go thicker than 1mm for most uses. If you want it tighter after lacing, wet it. Also one step he didn't do here is dampen, let rest, then tap down the lace area with a smooth object (like a hammer with a smooth head or a steel pipe) in order to smooth out the stitch area.

    No surprise it slides smoothly because it's way too loose! Of course it depends on what the purpose is but if you consider making furniture you would have to improve the precision otherwise your joints wouldn't be tight enough. But the idea of making it with a table saw is basically a good idea.
