Welcome to my shop in the great state of Minnesota -- the land of 10,000 lakes. As a hobbyist woodworker, I love taking on new projects, trying new things, and expanding my skillset. In his book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell proposes that to master any skill it requires a great deal of practice. He repeatedly references 10,000 hours as the amount of time one should expect to practice in order to master anything. What better way to showcase both my home in this beautiful frozen tundra and the journey that lies ahead of me.

I water pop between each grit!! Is that unnecessary/too much water popping???
@@kristopherluster6709 Now you got it! There is definitely not a wrong way to do it - I’m just not convinced it does much until the final sanding. If it works for you though- I say go for it!
The knurling was for traction in the hole ding dong, adults would have reamed the hole to fit instead of messing up tools
@@brianmurphy2382 Yes yes of course - however what you fail to miss is that 3/4” dog holes have to be precise so that ALL dog hole accessories slide in and stay put, but also slide out easily (not snugly). Reaming the holes in my workbench would nullify the entire setup just for one cheap clamp set. This solution worked very well for me and now they work exactly as I need them to. Also, because I didn’t destroy the system of dog holes by “reaming them”, they work great for the 10+ other accessories I have for those dog holes.
What ended up being your outside dimension of the whole cabinet? Looks great and also hello from a fellow Minnesotan.
The outside dimensions are 18” wide and top-to-bottom outside measurement is 24.5”. I used 1/2” Baltic birch, which is really 7/16” if we’re splitting hairs. Each box from the face is 3.5” tall x 3 7/8” wide. I chose the cabinet dimensions because I wanted it to be a perfect fit in between the face frame of the cabinet I was using.
@@TenThousandMakes thank you! It's honestly a lot smaller than I thought from the video. I'm usually a better judge lol
@@TheRodlund You’re welcome! I’m already thinking of making another one, this time with slightly larger drawers to replace a lot of the plastic storage bins I have. I hate plastic!
@@TenThousandMakes right there with you. I enjoy 3D Printing so it would be interesting to combine your style of drawers with custom dividers or holders. The plastic ones I also underestimated how much saw dust gets in them
@@TheRodlund that’s a great idea!
Полу рак - полу йух! Зачем покупать лентопильный станок, когда можно к ручной электропиле приделать шину от цепной пилы?!
Нормальный лобзик... Для фанерки 3хслойной пойдет...
😂 Cuts through beams like a jigsaw cuts through 1/8” plywood. Love it.
How big of a torch do you need to fix the "W" 😅
I used the font that the customer asked for (which looks better than pictured). It looks a little funky because I had to overfill the carving so I can sand everything flush once it’s cured. It’ll look great.
@@TenThousandMakesjust cuz we can, should we be creating so much plastic dust?
@@vince55sanders I use dust collection connected to my sanders, air filtration above me, and I wear a dust mask. But should you? You do you, brother!
@@TenThousandMakes then where do you put the dirty dust filters and bags? i am trying to learn if you are willing to teach.
@@vince55sanders I apologize that I don’t follow. I put them in the garbage.
When you think about this at a deeper level you reevaluate what it is to have a life. I buy expensive crap too. Love it and hate it.
Well said.
See you coulda sold one of your kids and or a neighbors kid. You need to think these things thru. Now you have to hope the beer doesn't take the other kidney out...
😂
festool?
I work at a store that sells festool products. Definitely festool. Buy once, cry once.
Yeah, I cried once, but it’s been really great ever since. It’s amazing paired with their sanders. I got the dust separator box too which saves me from having to buy new cloth bag filters as often .
Yeah badass, but I’ll keep my kidneys and sweep my garage
Smart thinkin’
Another dust catcher done....
A ton of the detail was still lost when you sanded it down...
I’ll just say I was satisfied with how it turned out.
Hey, fellow woodworker from North Carolina. I just came across your page and I really appreciate the enthusiasm and the humor. Keep it up!
Hey Adam! Thank you for your kind words and encouragement! God bless you, brother!
After this, I don't think anything.
Oh no! I’ve either answered all of your questions (which cannot be the case) or you’re now dumber than ever for partaking in such codswallop.
Improv when you need it!! ❤
my 5000 tooth blade sometimes burns halfway through the cut
😂 same same
Good side up ? Or good side down ?
I wrapped the tape around both front and back of the board and it was super clean on both sides - no tear out whatsoever on either side
The example edge I showed “without tape” was the rough edge I was removing from my board. If that makes sense. It was tear-out from a previous cut.
There's few things in life as satisfying as a well maintained saw with a new blade...like butter...lol
@@robertdavis1116 agreed
Dang that looks good!
Thanks, brother!
You are hysterical but also great info!
Thanks, Tom! I didn’t know you were on CZcams! Glad to connect!
The linseed and beeswax is hard because you didn’t follow the recipe. Not even nearly.
This was so funny! 😂 love this
Hey, thanks!!! 🙏
Nice, how interesting! :)
Thanks! Works great!
i have done a bunch of testing also but the major issue is they all work great in the end. i settled on 50% oil 50% wax. i make pucks of bee+flax and rice bran+flax to rub on wood using the rice bran wax as the top coat for a harder less sticky finish than the bee wax gives. For tools i use hemp oil and soy wax just cuz i got it and find it stays wet or less cakey longer than flax. i might try peanut oil+wax someday with leather
That’s awesome! Use what you have, right? It’s fun to experiment and find exactly what you like best. Thanks for sharing your recipes!
THE SOURCE OF TRUTH HAS BEEN FOUND!!! ALL HAIL THE SOURCE OF TRUTH! HAIL! HAIL! HAIL!
You made it weird. I mean, that’s what you call the measurement benchmark when comparing variable data… but you do you. 😳
Super cool, Mike! The inlayed strings was such a creative look!
Thanks, Dave! I appreciate that! I want to make more of these!
Great video Michael!
Thanks, Tom!
Kinda like what God does. Repurposing junk.
Amen to that! 🙏
Hey Mike…looks great. Love the shirt with the logo…nice!
Thanks!
Nice work Michael! Use a squeegee rather than a roller for applying the masking and you will get a tighter seal on the masking and should need no touch up!
Awesome! I have one that we used for some wallpaper recently - good call.
Time to build that storage shed!
TOTALLY AGREE!
Who tf says sharpening should take all day?
<sense of humor has left the chat>
@@TenThousandMakes sorry, didn't realize it was supposed to be. I'm still working on that...
@@electricheartpony haha- all good! Just having some lighthearted fun. I spend maybe 5 minutes sharpening with this grinder. When I have to pull out the whetstones to tune up the flat chisels it FEELS like an all day affair.
If you sharpen a thin tool (like a knife) too quickly, it can get hot and lose its temper, but the solution is frequent (or continuous) cooling, not super slow work.
@@matthewsalmon2013 Good call - and I suppose that’s why sharpening systems like the Tormac roll the grinding wheel through water at slow speeds. Super expensive though!
That is classy!
Thanks!
Im gonna be real, whoever ordered a cutting board with a bunch of material gouged out of the cutting surface isn't cooking shit lol
I should hope not! Why would you cook shit? 🤢
@@TenThousandMakes Funny but unfortunately more than a few cultures eat the stomach contents of their kills, and they aren't just slurping down the bile lol
That’s awesome!
Thanks!
Nice!
Thanks, Randy!
Im gonna need to see the finished flocking!
I like where your head’s at! Video is in progress! I just have to wait overnight for the glue to dry and then slap a video together about the process.
I'm pretty sure this isn't his first rodeo
@@dougworth-ut1lg it’s amazing how much people expect you to know by your second rodeo!
Yep I do that too... Foam sheets... bubble wraps... Card boards... Even a wooden pallet. It takes up space but I eventually get to be real happy when I need it! Cheers!
Same! I once had to ship a cutting board and didn’t have the right box on hand and had to buy one with packing materials. It was not cheap!
What’s car pool tunnel?
Hmmm? Come again?
Awesome!!
$60 to $70 for a gadget? I'll use the manual method.
I got it heavily discounted, but I hear ya! It’s definitely not truly a “need to have”. But hey, it gives me joy.
I just did this the other day, wet the rag with the mineral spirits, move the rag slightly and do it again repeating as necessary. No fuss, no muss and you don't have to buy any geegaws or whatsits.
😂 Tried and true method. I went with the other (geegaw?) route. Googling now.
New subscriber, I'm glad you have found your channel, love your sense of humor, I'll also add to what someone else said, keep your mistakes in your videos. We all make them and seeing how you work thru them builds character. Best wishes to your channel!!!! Great work
Thanks, Tracy! I appreciate the support! It’s been a great first year and I’m excited about some projects I’ve been commissioned for in early 2024. There will be mistakes!
Now it’s not square
🤔 very true - It’s a curved box. How do you mean?
Oh I see what you’re saying. I’m going to cut the outside perimeter of the box to match the curves anyway.
just mark it up so it's square after closing the kerf
Beautiful and awesome teaching with humor. Thanks
Thanks for the encouragement! I appreciate that!
Where did he get the old mcdonalds straw... asking for a friend lol
Went dumpster diving for old wood and came up with some reclaimed tips instead.
Thats also how i clean the corners of baggies
He’s probably talking about cornhole, mom. We call that game Bags in Minnesota. Though, we also call that other game Duck, Duck, Grey Duck.
@@TenThousandMakes lol 😉
That's an ex meth head right there
A 12 pack and that gun. Just sweetness!!
Hahaha, nuff said
You could just drill a hole and feed the bandsaw through
You might be thinking of a scroll saw
@@TenThousandMakes Nevermind then...
