Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 Arrives in Cheyenne, WY July 2024
After a historic tour of the American West, observe here as Union Pacific's BIG BOY No. 4914 returns home to Cheyenne, Wyoming. We begin at the day's only advertised service stop, where we watch members of the UP Steam Crew "Shooting the rods" full of grease. From there, we carry on along Lincoln Highway 30 to yet another stop in Laramie. From there, it's up and over Sherman Hill and into the rain where the train is triumphantly brought up to the Cheyenne Depot. As always, we'd like to extend a world of thanks to the UP Steam Crew-as well as the overwhelming support of the Union Pacific Railroad-for giving us railfans a sight to behold in the 21st century! Unfortunately, this is a thing of the past due to one person, stupidity!
The accident had nothing to do with it. The Denver Post had been hemorrhaging money for years and could not afford to pay UP to run the train anymore. I knew by 2017 that the 18 Frontier Days was probably going to be the final run. Just be happenstance, it didn't have the best ending.

I miss 844. It's not scrapped, but after the whole incident in 2017, I think itcould be a little while.
