      Thank you for the feedback, Ronald. I'm sorry this video wasn't to your liking. Some golfers like to see what not to do so they can identify any faults in the swing. Without knowing some of the common mistakes, it can be challenging for some players to understand what to look for. I also agree, that positive re enforcement is more important.

    Each time I 'hit' from the top and chase the shot with my head, I overuse the right arm (the dominant arm) and the right side of the body - that instantly generates an irrecoverable over the top swing, across the line. Combine that with the release explained and the club face closes violently, twice as much, hence the fear. If you don't use the release, it becomes an ugly slice. In contrast, keeping the right arm more passive and using the vertical ground forces (posting on lead foot for weight transfer), club ends up on plane, from the inside. Do what Danny recommended for club face closing, plus attacking the ball from the inside - guaranteed beautiful draw! One quick comment, when you start hitting from the inside, if you don't transfer weight on front foot (I used to hang on the back foot) you will hit behind the ball, I struggled with that during the adjustment. Thank you Danny for a great explanation and the reasons as to why the release is not there for most of us!!!!

    I watched your lesson and for the first time I can say I got it after watching so many others and still not getting it right I’m a believer in cause and effect meaning you can’t think of everything while making a swing and for me it’s get to the end position that you show so well a good practice I find is to start from where you want to finish and take it to the back swing do that a few times coupled with the correct knee movement and when you make a swing it just happens Thanks again 👍

    Hi Malcolm revisiting this video. Thank you for showing the release from p6 @3:18. Am on my PC so I can watch it frame by frame. Looks to me like a push with the right arm/hand (or throwing a ball under handed to a spot infront of the ball) and then a swivel so that the toe points vertically or even left. Would this be a correct description? Meaning the face moves & rotates differently from p6 to impact vs impact to p8 (or shaft parallel post impact). i.e. is not a mirror image. hope you understand my description. Thanks

    • @dannymalcolmgolf
      @dannymalcolmgolf Před 19 dny

      That sounds like a pretty good description of a harder release (i.e. greater rate of closer of the clubface from P6 to P8. The feel versus real is a little different for everyone.

  • @TeddyCavachon

    My personal experience and what I now observe in others is that not understanding how side bend the spine in the downswing affects the release of club and textbook “pro” extended finish. That I think is because golf instruction conflates and confuses the terms “tilt” and “side bend”. Biomechanically the tilting / of the pelvis results from leg action. If the spine is straight the shoulders will TILT the same direction in the same amount. Side-bend is the result of sideways curvature of the lower lumbar spine ). It differs in two ways from TILT: 1) It changes the angle between pelvis and spine, and 2) it can be do INDEPENDENTLY from TILT or ROTATION of the hips and spine at any point in the golf swing. I learned how and when to side-bend by screen capturing videos of pro swings and analyzing them frame by frame. Most pros start to side bend in their downswings as their hands swing down past their back legs which creates a significant change in the shoulders vs pelvis angle, dropping the trail shoulder, raising the lead shoulder and pulling the hands down and more down the target line than they had been traveling because the tilting the shoulder also changes the path and force vector of the swinging mass of the lead arm which is the lever arm pulling on the hands! If you compare the swing of new golfer who does not side-bend what occurs is that instead of lead arm mass shifting and pulling the club towards the target, hands and club instead just ‘windmill” in a circle. That allows them to hit the ball with some success but does not allow them to execute that “pro” extension where the club force is allowed to pull both arms and wrists straight then transfer support and axis of rotation from lead to train shoulder. Instead due the circular force vector if the lead arm and clue what happens is the club trying to swing around the body forces the lead arm to bend at the elbow in a REFLEXIVE ATTEMPT to stay in balance in the finish. Why does that happen? Without side bending through impact the body doesn’t have the leverage to control and arrest the club head in the finish, what the two arm extension does, very much like the capture wire on a aircraft carrier slows a landing jet. Pros like Freddie Couples and Earnie Els who are known for their slow fluid finishes accomplish it by being exceptionally good at absorbing the kinetic energy left in the club after impact with the ball with their arms and body. What I discovered was the quickest fix for a noob or intermediate golfer who can’t finish in balance is to start by statically posing the in a side-bent “tour pro” impact position with side bend, forward shaft lean and back foot just starting to come off the ground to release hips for the finish. I have them swing up to the top, hold, then back down into that foreign and awkward feeling (to them) posture 3-4 times noting where their club is hitting in the ground then I put a ball 1/2” further back and watch them hit the best shot of their lives. Their comment is always some variation of “I had no idea a golf swing was supposed to work that way!” and that is the problem with how most instructors teach. Do this and that technique without explaining the goal is to get everything down to that impact position. Once their CONSCIOUS brains understand that’s the goal their REFLEXIVE brains which have been jerking the club around to try to keep them in balance will easily execute the goal. Not perfectly but from a much better baseline of understanding to work from.

    I never even realized i was doing it until and older fellow said i was being to wristy. I would always think of mike tyson saying all his knockouts came from the ground up. So yeah, pressing my leg down while speed up my swing then making sure that when the clubhead gets near the ball, its straight before finishing the release.

  • @77bovi
    @77bovi Před měsícem

    ❤ thanks for finally doing this topic which I think is a core fundamental topic but 99% of instructors don't cover. the hands and wrists can move in so many different ways to make the club move. I understand that the backswing etc does matter a lot but without knowing how the club should swing, how you intend to release the angles and how to manipulate the clubface for curve or straight, learners will not really benefit. If we can't do feet together swings properly, it's not going to be helpful teaching step drills, shallowing, pressure shift etc. On your topic of release, could you possibly cover in the future how it helps getting hands ahead of ball at impact (good impact position), how to add manipulation in the right way to influence ball flight & curve. & the various mistakes & misconception you see from golfers when attempting a proper release.

    • @dannymalcolmgolf
      @dannymalcolmgolf Před měsícem

      Thank you for your kind feedback. Yes, the hands and wrists alone can create so many different ball flights. Educating them is essential to becoming a highly skilled golfer. 100% agree....the fear of the release is often due to the over-the-top hitters fearing going even further left (or right). That's me to a t. And that's the reason I'm working hard to fix my over-the-top move. What no instructors really talk about is that not all of us over-the-top hitters are as exaggerated as instructors demonstrate. Some of us are just slight over the top hitters but even a slight over the top is enough to cause havoc on any course other than wide open courses with large greens. Good video.

    • @dannymalcolmgolf
      @dannymalcolmgolf Před měsícem

      Exactly! I'm glad you mentioned that. For videos I like to show the exaggerated over the top move. But as you said, it's also the same for players who are just slightly out to in. I see lots of players on a weekly basis online and in person that chicken wing too, from a swing that is just slightly out to in. Thanks for watching.

    • @dannymalcolmgolf
      @dannymalcolmgolf Před 3 měsíci

      Hi James, thank you for watching. These drills would help fix a slice with any club in the bag. I put "driver" in the title mainly to attract people to watch the video, as typically this is the club in the bag that most people struggle with directionally the most. With the driver being the longest club in the bag, and lowest lofted providing a tilt axis on the ball that is going to provide the most curvature if the face is open to the path. I would try putting yourself under more pressure situations in practice working on correcting the slice, and then playing some holes on the course on your own hitting a couple of balls from each spot, off the tee, and approach (course and pace of play permitting of course). Taking the range game to the course is challenging, and it takes time to trust a new pattern. Good luck.

      Try to cut the ball - strong left hand grip, right hand slightly on top of the left thumb, close the face at address, & open your stance. That’s the set up. For the swing: swing slightly out to in and feel your right hand cut under the ball. As if you’re playing ping pong one & you want to cut under the ball for backspin…. You should see the ball flight go left to right. This all assumes you’re a right handed golfer.

    Hi Danny. I see on your one bad swing your shallowing of your club at 4 am was not in perfect synchronization with your shifting of your body to your lead side. Another words: Never shallow even a moment before you start to shift your weight to your lead side. Would you agree? As you have shown if one looks carefully all great golfer are first initiating shifting there body to their lead side immediately followed by the shallowing their club at 4 am as you have shown in previous videos, This shallowing occurs vertically behind them automatically. If a golfer were to vertically drop their club head first then shift to their lead side they would then block their lead side at their finish as I have often done until now. Correct? Cheers🥂😊👍

      Hi Thomas, thanks for the comment. How much a player is looking to shallow the club is dependent on what ball flight a player is looking to achieve. There's no one size fits all. This shallowing needs to then be matched up as you say with the correct sequencing. It opens up a conversation which is quite individualised to each players needs. Hard to say a one size fits all approach over CZcams.

    Hi Danny. ❤️Your key to a perfect: Set up/BackswingDownswing. And then trying all three together. Loving what you just said and demonstrated to the world of amateur golfers. As senior I much too often avoided flaring my trail right foot outward for my natural inside takeaway. But thanks to your great videos I have found the key to my personal greatness and a professional golf swing is to not to use my right shoulder to go OTT as being sold now for $199.00; but to immediately shift my body at the transitional part of my swing. In fact I now believe there is no such thing as a backswing or downswing; but, to just swing the club accordingly as you teach: Shift back/ shift forward. Of course dropping my club down at four O’clock must be done simultaneously with the shifting of my body to my left. As another great teacher on You Tube might say: UREKA! Cheers 🥂😊👍

      Hey Thomas. I'm glad this helped. Flaring the trail foot can also help for players with lower half/hip restrictions (like me), to allow a bigger turn/more depth, which can also aid in reducing OTT. Thanks again for watching! :)

    Great video.. This is an eye opening video on creating shaft lean. I am guilty of moving arms forward. Gotta get feeling of just lowering arms, while pivoting. This video is really important. hope it gets more views.

    Danny, do you not have to shift the weight on to lead foot when club is parallel to ground in backswing? I think it is not possible to do at top of backswing or too late at that stage....but maybe i'm wrong! I can't do it either way LOL!

    • @dannymalcolmgolf
      @dannymalcolmgolf Před 3 měsíci

      Hey John, thank you for your comment. That's a pretty good cue for most players. The best players in the world will typically be re-centering/shiting their weight to the lead side between P3/4 (halfway back to the top of the backswing). At which point exactly can also be dependent on length of swing which is different for everyone. Doing it after the top of the backswing is too late and will be inefficient, resulting in loss of clubhead speed and the ability to control strike and direction. I hope that helps :)

    I would focus on how to turn both hands and wrists in a cone-like clockwise fashion exiting left post impact from the ball. The best transition at the top of any golf swing is the actual clockwise twirling of the head of the club with both hands and wrists working together exiting left as the body rotates from right to left. Cheers

  • @thomasfraser9072

    Absolutely you are 100 percent correct. I was wrong in my last reply. . Might I explain? Your demonstration is what Christo Garcia in his miracle OTT swing refers to shift right as the golfer loads on the left side while allowing at transition for the club to drop behind the golfer. Done correctly on the downswing this may appear that the golfer is moving over the top with their right shoulder; but in reality are actually shallowing their club as they are simultaneously are twirling the club head clockwise with both hands and wrists exiting left to the finish of their swing. ( right handed golfers). A great practice of this would be the clockwise twirling of the club head to the ball with both hands and wrists. This is what Jack Nicklaus did in his Twirl Waggle to feel the weight of his club just before swinging his club exiting left post impact from his ball. Check out the twirl waggle of Jack Nicklaus on You Tube. In reality the golf swing is a transitional one cone twirling of the golf club with both hands and wrists that exits left as the golfer body turns left. Hope you check it out for yourself and feel free to spread the word. At age 76 I am playing better golf than ever before. Cheers 🥂👍😊

    I played 221's last 2 seasons with much love. This year I was looking at the 241 but I had an open mind to all three models. Initially the 243 felt amazing and piqued my interest - and then 245 felt great also, but went WAY too far and I didn't want to start tweaking them to fit. Of course the 241 blades were as amazing as the previous iteration. As time went on testing the 243, they were just a bit hot and "weird". The sole was much larger than I was used to and I fell out of love with the feel. Yet again after 4 hours of testing over 3 occasions, the 241 went into my bag. I changed this year to carrying 5-PW, and my 4 iron is a '24 Apex Pro single iron, and a Mizuno Fli-Hi in the 3 iron. My shot dispersion with 241 irons are absolutely immaculate (especially front to back). Distance doesn't' concern me whatsoever. Thanks for the video.

      I am about to do the exact same thing but with one small tweak. 5-PW in 241s with the Apex UT 4 Iron 1* weak to 24*. I’m coming from the Titleist 620 CBs. I also hit the Cobra CB/MB comb, the TM P7MBs, and the T100s and I’m not lying when I say I found the 241s to be one of the easiest and most satisfying clubs I have ever hit, which I was not expecting in a blade. They also could not suit my eye more standing over the ball, just beautiful clubs.

      @dannymalcolmgolf Před 3 měsíci

      That sounds awesome. At least you can be 100% in your decision after solid testing. :) I have added in the Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi 3 iron too. That thing is a rocket and my go to fairway finder! So good

      This sounds awesome too. I would have loved the 241s but with a young family and busy coaching diary, play and practice time is very minimal, so the 245s offered me the performance and forgiveness I need, whilst still kinda looking like a blade. Happy days! All the best with your new set up

    So this is a 2 plane swing as opposed to a 1 plane swing?

    • @dannymalcolmgolf
      @dannymalcolmgolf Před 3 měsíci

      Depends how you define it. For me 1 plane is typically getting the lead arm to match the shoulder plane at the top of the swing. Great for players who typically come OTT or good for athletes that can move and rotate well

    There’s a lot of talk about positions when positions are just moments in time of a movement. Surely using the ground will naturally shallow the swing.

    • @dannymalcolmgolf
      @dannymalcolmgolf Před 5 měsíci

      Hi Derek, yes doing this correctly will certainly help with shallowing but won’t guarantee it

    for me it doesnt work your drill.To stop hooking the ball, I keep the clubhead slightly open, weak grip and most important on the down swing the torso hips,legs and arms are all in sync and rotate at the same speed.If on the downswing I let the arms pass the hips then I hook immediately the ball
