Diva Starz: The Lost 2000s Robot Dolls

Diva Starz were a peculiar line of robot dolls from the technology-obsessed early 2000s. With their arguably creepy designs, they could talk and interact with you in unique ways. While a nostalgic relic of the past today, there's an interesting story behind how and why the dolls evolved, including controversies, outrage and fights between doll companies. There's also a variety of lost media, in...

Initially, I thought "Hey, cottagecore is still big right now, they should bring back more elements of the original few designs", but then I realized something. Cottagecore appeals to adults because it offers an escapist fantasy that suits our desires. The dream of building a cozy little home in some picturesque forest, far away from the stressful world of rent payments and 9-5s. Children probably don't dream of owning a house with a compost bin. Children dream of going on adventures, or being famous, or being cool mature grown ups. They probably don't want what I want. With that in mind, I think the new Strawberry Shortcake is a great redesign. It's appealing, diverse, and adventuresome. It's just not for me, in the most literal sense.

Your voice is so relaxing to listen to coming from someone who's neurodivergent. Honestly, these videos deserve way more views, in my opinion. They're so thoroughly researched and every segment is given just the right amount of time that nothing ever overstays its welcome. I've watched your videos since I came across your "Disney Fairies" review and even as an autistic adult male, learning the history behind nostalgic toys, whether made for boys or girls in mind, is fascinating. If I had to pick out my favourite of your videos though, it'd be the Build-a-Bear one. If I'm being honest, you're one of the main reasons why I collect figurines, keychains and other things that people might consider childish, or ignorant of my age, but I don't care. One of these days, I'm planning to deep-dive into Power Rangers, Thundercats, Transformers, Action Man and other boy-centric material as a fun contrast. But honestly, being a former brony, I've always wanted to collect the ponies too. I love the visually appealing designs each unicorn, pegasus and earth pony has, and the uniqueness of each of their names. Less so with Bratz, Barbie and the Monster High/Ever After High brands, but I understand their appeal. Littlest Pet Shop always felt unisex to me, even if it was targeted towards girls in mind. Regardless, I've remained a firm subscriber of your videos for a long time, and its thanks to your content that I've subscribed to similar channels like LulaLoopsey and Athena P.

Also, I never realised that "Blythe" from the Littlest Pet Shop television series got her name from this doll brand. (Unless that's coincidental). But considering the way she's designed in the show with the big eyes and small petite mouth, I'm pretty sure that might be the case. Which would fit quite well given their collaboration. Edit: I was right! 😂 And, I guess I'm the only one who likes the G4 designs. But considering the fact that I also prefer the G4 designs of the ponies, that isn't too much of a surprise. However, there is a lot that I like about every generation. The simplicity of G1, the adventurousness of G2, the colourfulness of G3 and then, the vibrancy in G4. I haven't seen much in regards to G5 on LPS's side, but I feel like the theme nowadays would be Nostalgia, since that's how MYM and TYT feel to me.

I had the PC game as a child. I think they could make a comeback honestly, but they do badly need a bit of a redesign because their legs look like they're being poured into their shoes. I remember being distinctly uninterested in Miranda when she was added to the website lol. I confused her with Alexa. Ahhh I remember the webisodes. :O

oh my god there was this gameboy game that I played on the DSi called "dogz" that I dont think was within the "petZ" franchise but was so unbelievably charming. It was all 8-bit, you got to pick your character, and then adopt a dog from the pound and bond with them until you had to GIVE YOUR DOG BACK. It was HEARTWRENCHING. I can literally smell this game though. I want to play it again so bad!

There is something my brain doesn't like about any character design where the eyes are so low that they match or dip below the level of the nose; Betty Boop, the MLP reboots, Blythe, Funkos. Don't like the appearance of any of them. HOWEVER, while they are not my cup of tea, I am not a real hater. I do love toys and this was a fascinating deep dive into this interesting doll. I can see how the eye gimmick lends itself to photography as you can have them looking in different directions. The original outfits are pretty cute and the way customizers are going ham on them is amazing. Customizing dolls is super fun. Can confirm. Toys and dolls are a fun, harmless hobby and it's sad that adults get so much flack for being into them.

I like that in the movies fairy wings are reminiscent of cat and dog tails and how it can represent an emotion. Like when they get scared or worried their wings go down, when they are content their wings flap slowly, and when they are actively engaged their wings flap quickly

I think the Pixie hollow books (including the Fairy Dust trilogy) were intended to take place after the original Peter Pan Book, written in 1911 (It is a darker book than the Disney version). The 6 Tinkerbell films were prequels to the Disney Peter Pan film, so they are much lighter in nature. So personally I don't think the books and films exist in the same continuity, but thats just my guess. Also, in my opinion the Pirate fairy was the weakest of the 6 films, because Zarina knew that stealing the pixie dust would doom fairy society but she did it anyway, and in my opinion she was justifiabley fired from her job. It was obvious that Fairy Gary would've come and given her another chance after some time. Also, her plan would've doomed our world too if fairies couldn't come and change the seasons. So Zarinas plan would've killed lots of fairies (because they couldn't escape hawks and their society would collapse), and would've killed millions of humans (because Earth becomes seasonably locked resulting in famine and death), Zarina only feels bad AFTER Hook turns on her, so she gets no sympathy from me.

**Thorfy:** (standing in the empty classroom, glancing out the window) Sunset Shimmer, may I have a word with you? **Sunset Shimmer:** (walking in hesitantly) Of course, Mr. Thorfy. Is something wrong? **Thorfy:** (turning to face her, his expression stern but calm) Yes, there is. I've been hearing troubling things about your recent interactions with some of the other students, particularly the Dazzlings. **Sunset Shimmer:** (sighing, her shoulders slumping) I know, but you have to understand, the Dazzlings are dangerous. They tried to take over the school with their magic. They were manipulating everyone. **Thorfy:** (raising a hand to stop her) Sunset, I am aware of what they did. But this is not about what they did; it is about how you responded. You made them your enemies, and that is where you went wrong. **Sunset Shimmer:** (frowning) But they were hurting people. What was I supposed to do? Just let them? **Thorfy:** (shaking his head) No, Sunset. You should have sought a way to neutralize their threat without turning them into enemies. There is a trend, a philosophy, if you will, that you seem to have forgotten: 'I have no enemies.' It means finding a way to deal with conflicts without making adversaries. **Sunset Shimmer:** (confused) How could I do that with the Dazzlings? They were using dark magic. **Thorfy:** (leaning against his desk, his expression softening slightly) I understand that it is not always easy, especially in the heat of the moment. But by making the Dazzlings your enemies, you only fueled their animosity and made the situation worse. You must strive to understand your opponents, to find common ground if possible, and to defuse conflicts without creating more. **Sunset Shimmer:** (frustrated) But I tried to help them, I really did. After the Battle of the Bands, I reached out, but they didn’t want anything to do with me. What was I supposed to do then? **Thorfy:** (nodding slowly) Sometimes, despite our best efforts, people are not ready to change. But that does not mean we should give up on the principle. You have to be patient, consistent, and above all, unwavering in your commitment to not making enemies. Reflect on how you handled things. Could there have been a different approach, even after their initial rejection? **Sunset Shimmer:** (thoughtful) Maybe... Maybe I was too quick to judge them after they turned me away. I just felt like I had to protect everyone. **Thorfy:** (softening his tone) Protecting others is noble, Sunset. But you must remember the consequences of your actions here in Canterlot High. You know firsthand how easy it is to be seen as a villain and how hard it is to redeem yourself. Don't put others in that same position if you can help it. **Sunset Shimmer:** (nodding) I see your point, Mr. Thorfy. It's just... hard. **Thorfy:** (smiling slightly) Of course it is. But the right path often is. Remember, never, ever make enemies, regardless of the consequences. Always look for another way. It's a lesson you must take to heart if you truly wish to make amends and grow. **Sunset Shimmer:** (determined) I'll try, Mr. Thorfy. I promise I'll try to find a better way next time. **Thorfy:** (placing a hand on her shoulder) That's all I ask, Sunset. We all make mistakes, but it's how we learn from them that truly defines us. Now, go on. I'm sure you have classes to get to. **Sunset Shimmer:** (smiling gratefully) Thank you, Mr. Thorfy. I'll do my best. **Thorfy:** (nodding) I know you will. Remember, no enemies. Now, off you go. (Sunset Shimmer exits the classroom with a renewed sense of purpose, leaving Thorfy to ponder the weight of his own advice.)
