    Thank you again, I just caught your channel, keep it going, love the way and concept you teach, I belong to world class golf, Mr Hanson, he's very good also, he had a few videos on shoulder plane and it's transformed my game, when I tell others to try pictureing it in your mind ,just your shoulder plane very simply, they look at me like I have 3 heads, lol to me that swing thought , only that thought gets me right back on plane with unbelievable contact, everytime, but your the first coach I've ever heard use that term like that ,try to use it as a picture in your mind, and ive watched hundreds of videos,so good for you , very happy I came across your program, I've read some titles on your pages and I'm digging in, all great things that resonate immediately in my mind, sorry to much on comment, but I just wanted to give credit were credit is due. please keep coaching. Once I discovered the Lto L I was mad no one told me before. It was easy to pick it up with shorter irons, and now seeing results in long irons, definitely the best swing style throughout the bag. Question: what about pitching? Still really inconsistent, been using body rotation & fixed wrists, finding it difficult to transition.

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf Před 6 dny

      Pitching I would make a few little adjustments, firstly you want to set up prominently on your left side, practice this by dropping your right foot back and balance in the tip of your right toe this will put you in balance over your left leg. Then learn to pivot around your left leg. Secondly a small adjustment in the grip instead of in the fingers hold the club slightly diagonally in the palm but the wrist action is the same feel just holding in the palm will reduce the amount of wrist hinge. I hope this works for you 👍

  • @thomasfraser9072
    @thomasfraser9072 Před 11 dny

    The centrifugal forces on the club head controls the movement of the hands and wrist. So just let it happen. You said at some point the left hip will have to get out of the way? If you have to think of the left hip getting out of the way as you are shallowing your golf swing; you’re too late. Bobby Jones years ago said his downswing actually started exclusively with the fast twitching of his lead hip joint Think of a fast twitch of your eye lids and then apply it to the same fast twitch of your lead hip joint to start your downswing; and you will have the best golf swing of your entire life. I could explain further why this works; but it would be more reading for sure Cheers.

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf Před 10 dny

      Thanks for the comment. I sort of agree with centrifugal forces but I would rather allow momentum to do the work, but you have to redirect the momentum (aka Jack Nicklaus) otherwise the weight of the club will fall behind you and you will get “stuck” with a wide open face and then having to roll the forearms at impact causing hooks, pushes, tops etc. learning the skill of releasing the club this way, which by the way is a more instinctive action (as is throwing a ball). If you release the club in this manner you will be far more accurate, but this is where I agree you shouldn’t really control it as such, but you might have to train it. Regarding the left hip, transition starts almost as soon as you take the club back, golfers for years were told to take the club to the “top of the swing” then change direction, unfortunately that’s too late. By the time my lead arm is parallel to the ground I’ve already moved up into my left side and I’m pushing the lead hip away/back this gives me loads of time to make that move. Again it’s an instinctive action, if I throw a ball when do you start moving up to your lead side??? It’s as soon as you take your arm back, then as you throw your left hip is actually pushing away from the target. Baseball is the same. The golf swing is an athletic action and should be fluid. I agree to a point of centrifugal force, but use momentum and learn how to redirect it (as it’s a straight line force) for better golf. ⛳️

    • @thomasfraser9072
      @thomasfraser9072 Před 10 dny

      @@mattbakergolf you’re right about the shifting of the weight to the lead side must start even before the backswing is finished. This is why i start my backswing with a twitch of my tail hip joint and start my downswing with a twitch of my lead hip. Visually it appears like Jones and I are swinging OTT: but in reality we are not. The momentum of the golf swing is not linear it the circular; hence centrifugal force creates the momentum of a golf swing. Does it not? Cheers🥂

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf Před 10 dny

      @@thomasfraser9072 momentum is a straight line force eg if you where to swing the club back and let go of the club it would fly off in a straight line, you’re right that the swing is a circular motion and your body creates the circle and helps to offset momentum. Like a ball on the string, your hand and wrists directs momentum, but what works for you works for you there is more than one way to swing a club. I just know this works not only for me but for my clients 👍

    How do you move up into lead side? What’s the feeling or movement? Do I push off back foot? Or do I float to lead side. I can’t move up into lead side I do my back swing and can’t get off back foot.

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf Před 11 dny

      I like to feel pressure in my feet, it goes from my right heel up to the middle of my left foot in transition. You have two sets of feel receptors your hands and feet so learn to use those. Physically your hips bump left ( while still slightly turned) but don’t let your left hip move past your left ankle once it’s done that you then start to push your left hip back away from the ball and slightly away from the target. I hope that helps 👍

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf Před 28 dny

      Definitely don’t roll the hands over (Flip) if you hit the corner on the left side you will swing the club and body in sync. In other sports eg baseball, tennis etc you would never lead the handle to hit the ball, you’d miss it. Your hands swing in a path inside the ball and the racket/bat swing out to hit the ball. It’s the same in golf this drill demos that perfectly splitting the hands shows how the hands work inwards so the head can swing out otherwise you can’t get the bat onto the ball. I hope this helps 👍

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf Před 28 dny

      It’s a great drill for the “shanks” most shanks come from the club being further away from at impact than address mostly lead by either the hips moving up into the ball or the golfer swinging the hands at the ball. The hands swing on a path inside the ball not at the ball and this drill demos it perfectly. Glad it works and thanks for the comment 👍

      This is quite common either your starting the downswing by throwing your right shoulder and hips at the ball causing you to swing “over the top” or your rolling the wrists through impact instead of the throw release. I’ve done a video on the release go check it out👍

    This is the driver LtoL I was looking for. I am great with this MM method and have increased my iron ball speed & distance, except for driver. It's been hard for me to get this. But I believe the Key point is to get the club up higher and not around the body, which I've always been told to do then letting the club go around the body. This may explain why I'm not able to use the same methodology with the irons as I may be too flat to get the proper leverage. I'll follow these steps, start with some at home practice then take it to the range then course.

    Hi Matt, I hope you have time to answer this comment. I discovered your channel as a believer in Malaska methodology and I have been working on a Malaska driven swing for the past 8 months. I'll give you the short and long story. Short story: my troubles right now are in the consistency of executing the L to L feelings and Malaska move in my real swing. I have found that if I shallow my hands really HARD (put in lots of effort), I can really L through and SMACK the ball using the "throw the trail hand" skill. The QUESTION: why does it feel like I have to put in a LOT of effort to shallow the hands and the club moving out in front of me? Long story: I understand all the Malaska concepts and nuances, I am just having troubles implementing them all together consistency. I have found I can really shallow my hands and Malaska move/rotate the lead hand when I put in quite a bit of effort and "swing hard". I am wondering why it feels like I need to do this? This is also similar to Jack saying g "releasing the club early"; to release the club early, I have to input a LOT of effort to shallow and Malaska move. This allows all the moving parts of the Malaska swing to tie together and work. I just want to know what your initial thoughts are on this. To me right now, I feel like I can never have a real "easy and free swing", but a consistent fast and powerful swing. I hope this comment finds you well and I look forward to any further discussion!

    • @mattbakergolf
      @mattbakergolf Před měsícem

      Hi Jordan Thank you for the comment. It’s a tough one as it might be a few variables but a few things that come to mind would be. Tension: if you have any tension in the hands, wrists and more importantly shoulders will make it very difficult, we do a drill called “Arm Drop” in the M System and this encourages the arms to drop in the downswing allowing gravity to take over. I’ve just posted a short on it funny enough. Moving up into the ball: what I mean by this is your body moving towards the ball in the downswing whether it be your right shoulder (which is common with the Malaska Move) or the right hip moving up into the ball you’ll find it difficult to have space for the hands and arms to drop into position. A great drill is to drop the right foot back so your toes are in line with the left heel, this will allow room for the hands to drop and shallow into position. The feeling is of keeping the right hip back in the swing. I hope these help if not please reach out again. Matt 👍

    • @jordancannon8208
      @jordancannon8208 Před měsícem

      @mattbakergolf thanks for the reply Matt! Totally understandable with so many possible variables, but the right shoulder mention might be a big factor here. So when doing the Malaska move and swallowing the hands, the right (trail) shoulder should stay back and the ARMS AND HANDS should initiate the move, right? Is that the focus of the arms drop drill to get the hands working more independently of the shoulders, which would then come into the equation at the end vs helping in driving the move?

      Definitely 👍 the swing weight of the club increases in the golf swing so momentum needs to be redirected onto the correct swing arc.

      Yes, it can be used to give the swing intention eg swing path also can help to remove tension.

    I have used the hands and wrists like this for many years. Now getting a little older and after suffering a severe golf injury where I hit a root and tore the ligaments and tendons in both wrists as well as having some nerve damage in both elbows, it is 11 years and several surgeries later. My issue is that I now really battle to hold the angles and while I still am able to generate some decent speed, I do not compress the ball at all and it all lands up being a flip at the ball resulting in shots that go very high and spin excessively. So despite still generating 86 - 90mph clubhead speed with a 7i, my distance is poor due to lack of compression. This is not an issue with driver where you don't need that negative angle of attack. For purposes of reference, I am a former state player at senior level. I am now almost 60, and have started playing again after breaking my shoulder a few months ago. Handicap is 0.6. Any advice?

      Oh wow that’s a tough break I hope you’re ok. 1. Firstly check your left hand grip we as an industry have taught golfers to hold the club with our palm’s opposing and that the back of the left hand should face the target. That’s not good for you. The heel of the hand should be leading. I’ve done videos on grip on my channel czcams.com/video/plf1_p-Fqa4/video.htmlsi=o-SC04lpHVz2wHjo. 2. Ensure your lower body is working and that you’re pushing your left hip back through impact. If the lower body stalls you will flip. This is my favourite drill for this. czcams.com/video/EPk139JJD4w/video.htmlsi=Xw_hm0SsQPWmVLdL 3. Lastly practice impact. Rehearse impact by hold it get a feel of what impact should be them chip a ball learn the sensations, I’ve done a video on this as well. czcams.com/video/sLOUR2OhOhE/video.htmlsi=XF0I7Vnp9-mP-Elq I wish you well and I hope the above helps. Also check out my coach and Mentors channel Malaska Golf lots of great info on there 👍

      @@mattbakergolf - Thank you so much for the advice. It has been a real uphill battle with so many people giving me "old" advice that I know already but just doesn't work when your body has broken down. This was the first of your videos I had ever seen and I subscribed instantly because your method seems so instinctive. I'll definitely be watching all the recommended videos (I had already watched video number 3) and trying this over the next few weeks. I also like the advice because I can feel like the shoulders are eliminated from the swing. Doc has told me it will take over a year to gain full motion in the shoulder but your method might help in not having to worry about that. Will let you know the progress as I start the long journey back to hitting it properly.

      Thank you 🙏 it was a massive Ah-ha moment when Mike showed me this. For years I was told to “take the hands out of the swing” What I really needed was to learn how to use them correctly. Thanks for watching I appreciate it.

    So true! Watch the ones that teaches the no hand method, they use hands and l mean they smack the bee gees out of the ball with the hands 😂

    I first saw the Joe move explained by Mike a few years ago, it didn't make sense until I tried it, stand it up, it's the balance point, yet within 50 balls i was not only hitting it further but way more consistently, it's a strange sensation at first, hands in, club head out, basically the swing is all over as you start down as the club levels out and you feel no effect whatsoever. Very easy on the body to which is important for everyone. Especially for a senior like me.

      Definitely, it didn’t make senses at the start mainly because it was the total opposite of what was being taught by fellow pros. For me tipping the club swings the club for me and the club just floats through. Most won’t try it but they really should. Thanks for the comment.
