Great video of that 1971 Seagrave Tiller in action. I’m surprised they are still running a very old Seagrave Tiller from the early 1970’s, and that detroit on that truck is very great and loud. One of the best and loudest things I’ve ever heard in my entire life. Very nice and great video, buddy.

2 stroke Detroit Diesel

I straight-piped my bus's 6V92, and while it's LOUD it's nowhere near as loud as this truck. The reason is simple: my engine is turbocharged, the truck's isn't. I can't imagine what Jakes would sound like on that truck: even my bus's Jakes definitely announce themselves!

Love that Detroit sound! When i was at Navy Lakehurst civilian FD in the late 70'S/mid 80's, we got a P-17 at crash, only a few made. That had a 6V92 turbo for the pump drive and an 8V92 turbo for the carrier engine, both were straight piped exhaust, NO mufflers at all. The exhaust pipes were about 3' long and 4" in diameter. That beast ROARED!!!! I use to love driving that rig between the hangers, gezzzzz, the sound was incredible! When you engaged the pump, that 6V92 would scream, the viberation was tremendous but what a freakin' sensation of raw power and sound! They scraped the rigs because they were a proto type that used electric selonoids to power elect valves on the piping. The selonoids would actually get 'confused' and would click on and off by themselves, the rig didnt know weather to pump or not of take a shit! Anyway, that rig, had it worked properly, would have been awesome. If i had a pic, id post it.

I laugh at grown males who aren't firefighters playing with fire trucks and talking about how they should sound or look, like children arguing. Yeah, the engine sound is cool, but those engines were oil sputtering toilets compared to the engines today. You ride on this tub for 30 plus years and see what it does to your hearing. Grow up boys and find a girlfriend. Technology evolves.
