Great information! I didn't know that Etsy ignores the words 'for' & 'and!' I don't understand how Marmalead gets the Etsy search data? I used to use ERank, but I could never figure out where the info comes from, so I stopped using them.

Kara, I sell rosaries on Etsy since 2020. My views have plummeted (probably for various reasons). But one thing I noticed with GiftMode is that if you put in anything Christian/Catholic related NOTHING Christian shows up in their search results. If you put in Baptism, Christening, First Communion, Prayer, Christian…nothing even close to those topics shows up. Next, I typed it Crucifix…the results were straight up occult type results like skulls, bats, witches, spike chokers, gothic jewelry, etc. I am very interested in what you think about this. I find it to be very bizarre and quite harmful for my full-time business.

If you run outside ads or share your stuff on socials, and people come to your shop...click on a listing but don't buy...won't it hurt your conversion rate and placement in search?

Random question: Do I need a food handlers license, commercial kitchen, etc, to sell handmade cake sprinkles on places like etsy and goimagine, the piped royal icing kind?

Etsy is full of vultures who have NEVER in their entire life ever made anything remotely artistic and they are literally polluting with their crappy designs. If I were Etsy I would limit print on demand shit sooo much.

They simply cannot be trusted. They did this in I think 2014 in an effort to help new Sellers get found. I get it but my sales instantly plummeted. I busted my rear & spent $ advertising to be a top seller & most of my listings were found on page 1 & then suddenly most were pushed to pg 20. Mind you this is when you were being pushed to "Quit your day job" (which I did after 2 years of consistent sales.) Again rewarding those who haven't done the work & stomping on those who did the work to make Etsy a household name. Not ok

Just out of interest, are your cats outdoor or indoor cats? If they don't think they are getting enough to eat they will find a neighbour somewhere who they can feign starvation to. My mum has been suckered in by one of those cats.....

(Question unrelated to this video) Etsy has been pinning my listings on their main Pinterest account on Pinterest. I noticed a big increase in visits from Pinterest and went to see why. Should I pin my listings underneath my own Pinterest account as well? Or should I just not even bother because it seems Etsy is doing it for me.

This new Etsy plan sounds like their version of Amazon prime. If you buy a lot of supplies on Etsy it could work for other shops. If you have premade inventory that isn't selling making it 50-75% off could help liquidate inventory.

I had to lower my prices lately... because of the race to the bottom. It's just nuts to compete with all these resellers and sweat shop stuff masquerading as handmade. They want to force us into doing sales that are 60-70% off! I can't lower my prices anymore or I will just be giving stuff away for free. I remember when Etsy told us to NEVER lower our prices because people will pay for quality stuff... and they wanted us to differentiate ourselves from cheap junk...

Our cat used to always bug us for food until we got him a "puzzle" feeder for dry food. It takes him a bit longer to eat it, because he can only get one kibble at a time. Hopefully he is entertained by working so hard. It took him a little while to figure it out, but one day we were gone until late and he didn't get his wet food dinner on time, he figured out how to fish the dry food out of the feeder.

I wonder if we will be able to proof that it is a hand made item and not a mock up when they remove the listings? I take pictures of finished embroidery, that is of course made by me but I had many customers asking if they can get a mock up of unicorn with different colors. I’m afraid my listings look like not real but they are! 😢

I have this year started using vacation mode rather than extending shipment times and I've noticed no difference to my shop. My vacations are often up to 2 weeks.

My anchor price is $50 for a car. In high school and college in late 60’s and early 70’s my buddies and I bought cars for $50. One car, the “SpaceDuster” a 67 Ford Galaxy where we put in a quart of oil every time we filled it up with gas. Those WERE the days. I’ve been extremely disappointed ever since. 😂

I think the comparison for a jewelry piece would be to use 14k gold filled components (same stones or pearls) as the lower price point versus 14k solid gold components for the higher end price point. There is at least a 10-20X difference in the material cost between 14k gold filled and 14k solid gold.

I “launch” products almost every day … vintage. And through the years I have found out what sells great for me and I try to have more than one similar item for customers to choose from. For example wooden bookends and metal ones, wall sconces in brass in different styles, spoon holders in wood or in enamel. “Using” the Etsy system as Etsy suggests similar items when a customer is looking at one of my items, and if one more of those is mine the higher the chance of selling.

Getting my new product out there, I will put free samples in all orders with a coming soon note in the packaging. I had no idea you could not list a new product with a low introductory price. I thought listing a new product at a 15% discount was okay.

Got the course. Listened to almost all of part 1. But I am working on part 1,1 and 1,2. Let's just say it is heavy lifting and difficult to unbury a lot of the stuff. Sharing this I guess is part of my course work. Is the course worth it? Yes, but you have to put the work in.
