    So let's say someone has been low carb for a long time. As much as one year. How long does it take the body to adapt to carb burning?

      I’m coming off 10 months of carnivore. I’ll spare a bunch of details, but I pretty much tanked my hormones, sleep was poor and energy was low. My gym strength and muscle size took a noticeable hit. I’m on my third week of introducing carbs. My carb sources are raw oats, sweet potato, white rice, cruciferous veggies, Ezekiel bread, raw beets, and 10-20g of raw local honey. I’m keeping my calories and macros the same as carnivore; I’m basically trading carbs for fat. I’m at a calorie deficit of 2000, 200g protein, 120-150g carbs, 65g fat. That’s all broken up evenly into 6 meals. Ruminant animal meat is still a priority for me, along with a little poultry, pork and fish. I’m also eating beef kidney, heart and liver daily. I experienced very slight bloating a few days of the first week…. That’s only the real negative experience. My weight is the same, but I’m losing body fat and gaining muscle just 3 weeks in….. I know we all have different experiences. Just wanted to share mine. Good luck.

      It could take anywhere from a few weeks to maybe a few months based on digestion and carb metabolism. Taking a slow methodical approach to ramping up carbs is likely best, since your body becomes adapted to burning fat.

    This makes me think back to Uncle Jack’s idea about eating foods that grow at your latitude. Sugars prob fine in Costa Rica but I’d like to see this work in Alaska during the winter.

      Yeah good point. I think red light could help to combat the lack of sunlight if you’re in a cold climate so you can eat some carbs. But ideally you are not eating as many in the winter as the summer. And you’ll always eat more in Costa Rica then you would in Boston. This is why I will always live somewhere warm. Better for our biology

    This is just anti fasting hatred. The assumption people can't get enough calories in 8 hours is just unfounded and the doctor referenced specifically said it was the extended days/weeks long fasts that ruined his lean mass, not intermittent fasting.

      It's not hatred. How did you get that vibe? They just don't agree fasting is all that good for you. And to be fair, their position isn't unfounded and there's an entire community that has in-depth explanations as to why fasting isn't a good thing to do and even why it makes people feel better. Fasting can have a place but it shouldn't be used all the time.

      When glycogen is depleted and dietary glucose isn't available it triggers a hormonal cascade that's also used in stress situation: glucagon-adrenaline-cortisol. Gluconeogenesis is a suboptimal way to make energy. From this perspective, not fasting is helpful to minimize stress.

      I believe oregano oil and pau d'arco are the two mentioned. Glutamine 5g x 3 times per day seems to be potent for stopping leaky gut. While constipation seems to be a low thyroid issue. Hope this helps!

    I am very curious how Jay explains all the people around us eating a shitload of carbohydrates (and hardly anything else) and being morbidly obese? And what his suggestions for them are?

      I would argue they are eating fat too. If you look at most processed foods they have seed oils in them. Cookies, chips, crackers, bread, and processed sugars are all foods Jay does not recommend eating. These all slow down the metabolic rate and have no nutrients. As far as suggestions for people who are obese: avoid PUFA, avoid anything that can impair metabolism (beans, legumes, raw vegetables, etc) and eat adequate macros. Jay seems to recommend lower fat (less than 100) and moderate protein (.65per LB body weight), and the rest carbs 250+. I think most people would agree that a diet consisting of mostly grass-fed meat and fruit does not make anyone fat.

      @@TheLukeLamy I wouldn't be so sure... I dropped~ 60lbs in less than 4 months when I stopped drinking my daily 2l Pepsi Cola bottle. And I am pretty sure there isn't any kind of seed oils in it... Please don't misunderstand me, I am not saying seed oils are healthy, just please don't make refined sugars healthy...

      @@virgilashRefined sugar is pretty benign within calorie requirements. It just lacks micronutrients and any beneficial plant compounds that whole foods would have. Jay doesn’t recommend a diet comprised of high amounts of refined sugar compared to other carbs

      I believe he means that the cells in our mitochondria operate on a circadian clock, so when we view light at the wrong hours/do not view sunlight at all our mitochondria gets damaged.

    one fact to think about, a German Raw Vegan influencer (Peter Gunter...I think it was his name) began in the 70s to rely on raw food, he was 50 then, a never sick until his 80 th birthday and then DIED from Heart failure, which means that the heart did not have enough energy.....so to my view a antiaging energy diet must be utilized...as aging per se decreases energy....

      Nearly all the people who recommend thyroid who I respect (peat, danny roddy, jay feldman, etc) recommend against T4 only therapy. So if you could get your hands on some T3 you could add that in with your T4 from the doc.
