@@tapioca2k Not quite yet, because I'm waiting for Alyosha, the developer of GBAHawk emulator, to run my test TAS on a an actual console. Yeah, I'd like DNA TAS to be console-verified. I'm focused primarily on planning. Yesterday I made a slow-motion 100% TAS, for fun and to see what I'll deal with during Any% run. It's on my channel. YT seems to be deleting links on other videos. I see, there's not a big gap between difficulties, so I'm going to beat the game on the hardest one.

ty :) Ricky Mask can go wrong in 4 ways. 1. The second grab - you can't grab an enemy for a while after they get knocked down, unless the enemy does an action. So we need Ricky Mask to do an action after standing up from the first throw so that we can grab him. That action can't be a dropkick, because that counts as Ricky Mask downing himself and resets the timer. 2. Get knocked down on purpose - Ricky Mask has a few attacks that won't knock you down, we don't want to see those. Him grabbing and throwing you does put you on the ground, but weirdly doesn't count for the objective. If his first action is no good, he can decide to just stand there and be non-aggressive for a while. 3. The third dropkick - you do this right after getting downed on purpose, so Ricky Mask is standing up when you come at him (unlike the first two dropkicks, which you can time so they always work). Ricky Mask can block or dodge this. 4. The heat action at the end - You can't do a heat action on enemies that are in the middle of an action. This is what made me lose some time on Ricky Mask in this PB, you can see him dodging and attemping an attack. Though my first whiff I think was just because I was standing too far away, I think the heat action won't work if you're too close to the walls either but that might be placebo. That's a way more in-depth explanation than you probably wanted but there you go, lmao. It is a very dumb fight.

That's only on Normal and above. on Easy they do good damage to bosses. There are some other subtler differences in mechanics too, like how locking onto enemies works, that makes the melee combat tech completely different on Easy as well.

Yeah, in my second playthrough it took me more or less 30 hours to beat the main campaign, but it is rewarding

I feel like they made up for it by being way more fun in general, plus 3 and 6 and 7 all tell pretty good stories

3 to me is the weakest so far. 4 was fun and different, but with a confusing history, but, could have been way worse. 5, I am having a blast to be honest. Just 13 hours in.

They don't get worse at all wtf do you mean These are older entries; what you see is obviously what you're gonna get. At most, the PS3 saga is just generally weaker than the modern entries (excluding K1). Yakuza 3 has a decent story, but flawed, clunky combat Yakuza 4 has a really bad climax, a good finale, and is a very fun version of Yakuza 3 Yakuza 5 has a mid-tier story, not confusing but just kinda stupid. Aside from that, it has some of the best combat and a fuck ton of cities to explore.

lol ok, maybe I should clarify. I do like the game a lot, its combat is just very stiff compared to even Y3's, and a lot of people already think 3 is too stiff. Attacking has a ton of ending lag during which time you can't change direction, virtually all of your unarmed attacks will get blocked even on easy (visible in the first tutorial), enemies will stunlock you and knock you over repeatedly even on easy. Without doing side content to get upgrades, you have pretty much no heat actions, which is lame in the run. There's also some pacing issues in the midgame, loads of walking back and forth between the same two points of interest. I'm a massive nerd so none of this bothers me much but I wouldn't call this game better than the PS2 games, and people complain about those having "aged poorly" all the time.

He says he enjoys it, so I guess his definition of good is different. Personally I don’t like over-complicating the word. If you enjoy something then it’s good.

Unfortunately, if you get into a fight with the early enemies in the walk they put up a wall that stops you from running all the way to Aoi. The only fight that lets you run to Aoi is the close guy on the corner, but at that point it isn't faster.
