I first starting watching eastenders in 2023 went back to 2022 episodes and i loved eastenders ever since wished they did cell block tango for 2023 christmas, also seeing kat play elsa made more sense she is the ice queen, justbwished they could have done a stacey kat duet first time forever

Always amazes me that Steve McFadden didn't win awards at British Soap Awards for such a long time ..( has he even won best actor ?) As Steve clearly has / had a bond with the Ben actors and also Jay as you can see so much of Phils acting in their characters , Vulnerable , caring , loving but don't want anyone outside the family to see it.

Jonny & Harry look so bittersweet in that last scene--it's all over their faces that they know it's their last scene together and the end of their story.

Ben admitting to Johnny the trainee lawyer that he'd consider revenge murder on sight was a big turning point in their dynamic. Johnny didn't bat an eye, surprisingly. He could have been the next Richie.

The inclusion of Linda looking anxious at 9:01 telegraphs that these HWs were considering making Ben/Johnny the next relationship. Alas, it took another few years for that pairing to happen, and then it was only a throwaway filler arc before Johnny left and Ben was recast.

Hard to watch this back. Actually, all these years later, I notice how incredible Johnny was as a support, how he put his own feelings and pride and wellbeing to one side in order to care for Ben. There's definitely some love there. Hopefully one day they get a chance to reconnect.

Paul is the centrepoint of Ben's life beginning. Before Ben met and loved Paul, he wasn't living, only existing as a hollow puppet controlled by his family's wishes. That's why sadly Callum, or any man who comes after, can never supplant Paul as the first real big love in Ben's heart and soul and Being. Though arguably, there's a little piece of Ben that's Johnny's, too, if only because he was Ben's closet key and he came before Paul (and later helped Ben come to terms over Paul's passing).

It's the little catch in Paul's voice at 2:59 for me. Such a subtle, powerful expression that shows vulnerability. The audience always saw him as confident and carefree up to this point, but Ben really caught him off-guard and forced him to take himself and someone else seriously.

It's a pity that Johnny Carter hasn't returned since this storyline. Ben's right in what he says here, he & Johnny were close friends who meant a lot to each other and shared a journey. Johnny is a massive part of Ben's life, yet he's never heard from or seen or even mentioned anymore.

Been years, and current!Ben & Callum have still not yet unlocked this level of soft sweet happy natural intimacy.

How Ben refers to he & Paul as 'we' at 2:28 is so heartwarming. As is Paul backing him up and looking extra sad/sorry/pretty to reinforce Ben's point to Jay. They were a perfect team.

Sad how destructively insecure Abi was, when really she's smart and sweet and nice-looking when she's calm and feels safe. She didn't have a reason to hate herself, until others like Babe started gaslighting her into twisted schemes. Abi's parents did a number on her psyche, making her feel second-best all the time so she felt like she had to manipulate people into caring about her. It's no wonder she connected so closely with Steven (Beale), they had the same complexes.
