Matt. My Aswc-1 has been connected but does not function properly. It seems to read the aftermarket stereo but only volume up works. Volume down, search up and down do not. Any suggestions? Does the ground wire from aswc-1 go grounded directly to chassis? The brown wire on the 3.5mm is connected to the swc wire(green, blue on Jvc deck) and pink wire is connected to pin11 whilst blue and pink wire is connected to pin9. Does pink wire and pin 11wire require a ground wire connected to chassis as well? Vehicle is mercedes w209 Any help would be appreciated!
amazing dude! followed step by step and solved my problem on my pioneer! keep up the solid videos!
same boat with my 2015 STI.sounds like crap due to amp.
Thanks sir
so when did u change amplifier?
Do you have the HK audio system in your Outback?
yup
I know this is an older video, but I cannot get the steering wheel controls to work, 2014 legacy. Whether I reset it and just hold up, or put it to manual programming mode, and go through all the buttons it won’t work. Using a dual brand HU, with the 2 full outputs
Check your grounds, make sure the wires are soldered. You will probably need to do a manual programming with a dual head unit on the aswc.
Thanks for this video, I am confused how you got the reverse trigger to work? I thought the reverse trigger behind the stereo is 6v and you need 12v to work. Can you explain it? Does your back up camera work ONLY when vehicle in reverse? or you can activate rear camera while driving forward?
I am pleased to report the quality has gone down further in terms of their packing. They still have no instructions - I did not get a packing list so I do not know what I am supposed to have. I received the WRONG driver side rail. It does not align with any of the holes. For some reason one of the cross bars is untreated --it looks like it is the one behind the screen - So I will have 8 black and one Aluminum colored ?!?
Completely stupid on their part. Thank you for sharing!
Great series thanks for sharing
Hello, any chance to connect aftermarket camera to oem navi monitor ?
Where’s the link to those other videos?
Saved me so much time looking for a rattle that was coming from the subwoofer. Finally figured out it was the GAS CAP COVER and I didn't have to rip all this stuff out. Super easy to do though with good explanation thanks!
I'm running into the same situation with the mislabeled blue and white wire. What are you connecting the "Forrester only" wire to?
Connect it to the remote turn on wire of the new radio
HAVE NO FRONT WHEEL DRIVE OR ABS BRAKES IT SLIDES THROUGH INTERSECTION MASTER CYLINDER AND BREAK BOOSTER BOTH REPLACED AND ARE NO BETTER
That's very scary
Saved me a headache, thanks!
What part number for the park bypass?

It's annoying.. maybe I'm spoiled but adding links in the description is so clutch. This is not clutch.
hello what about the Navigation is it install or not
The factory nav was installed. It was removed. It would be a nightmare to add the nav to a Subaru that doesn't have it already. Different wiring harness and missing gpw antenna and all
I realized this is super old video but your directions on pins and whatnot are the most clear I could find. Thanks brotha !!!
Thank you for your video, do you know how to connect the original factory reverse developer?
I don't, because of the low resolution I went ahead and upgraded to an aftermarket one. Much higher quality picture.
Hello, I have a problem that we connected the faucet to the power supply and other cables simply do not fit it and there is no sound whether it is possible to buy some adapter on eBay or Amazon ?
What year? Which radio did it have?
I love that extractor. It's honestly (imo) the best on the market as of right now. *11 years experience being an automotive detailer.
Speaking as a nurse, I appreciate your desire to want to give back to the profession. You did an awesome job.
I have a 2011 with hk but no nav. Harness i bought works but i have no sound. I tested a speaker by bypassing the amp and it works so my head unit is working. Any suggestions?
Also I bought this harness hoping it would fit but it doesnt
@@kevinnagassar9883 either you have to use the other remote turn on wire or you're not passing low level audio to the amp. Are the tca cables plugged in?
@nightmarecivic the rca cables I have coming from my head unit are not plugged in. The cables coming from my amp are not rca but on a harness. This is why I did not use them. I have 2 small line out boxes but not sure how to connect them.
Interesting video, thanks for making it. Looking into doing this for my Outback. But how did you connect the stripped wires to the subwoofer? It looked like you stripped the old wires but did you solder them to component plugs, to connect to the subwoofer?
I used the spring connectors on the sub. But because of the terrible weak sound. I went ahead and made a fiberglass enclosure for a bigger sub on the left side
I talked to Crutchfield today looking for a backup camera wiring adapter (trying to reuse the existing wiring on a new camera), and they told me that because of the starlink system on these that they don't sell parts or recommend updating the factory radio. I think he said something about the front speakers run through the amp and could fry some component... I'm not sure. I bought the components, but I'm still waiting on the antenna adapter to come so I'm holding off on it trying this for a few days.
Never heard of that camera cable goes directly to the radio, it's 4 wires. 2 for power and 2 for video signal. I wouldn't waste the time with the factory camera. When I connected it to an aftermarket radio the video was terrible
I did get a new camera, which is an RCA connector and a power wire that goes to a backup light wire. I figured I'd just splice on some RCA connectors and see how it looks before I tackle trying to run the backup camera wiring to the front of the car. That sounds like a serious pain. Anyway, since I have a few days waiting on stuff, I thought I'd check with Crutchfield to see if I could just get adapters connectorized to the existing subaru camera wire connector. Then they scared me by saying they don't sell stuff for this upgrade, and they don't recommend it.@@nightmarecivic
Hello, any chance to connect aftermarket back up camera to oem navi monitor ?
It wouldn't be possible to reuse the existing backup camera wiring?
Yes, you'd have to cut it and wire up a rca cable. I will state though that the resolution of the factory one is terrible compared to an aftermarket one.
@@nightmarecivic So, the wiring is part of the resolution problem? Or just replacing the camera with a newer one will solve the resolution issue? Thanks for making this video... its giving me confidence to tackle the job myself.
Hi Mate. Thank you for this video. Though I have a question. To which exact cable did you econnect the "forester only" blue-white cable? I have bought myself chinese android audio. It boots but no sound. Stearing from the wheel works on standard cable-harness given by chinese manufacturer. And there is no aditional electronics attached to this cable-harness. Seems like this harness is missing some wire to initialize H/K amplifier.
Goes to the rem or amp turn on
@@nightmarecivicI have the same problem , I know what is the cable to turn on the amp on my harness on the new radio but I don’t know where I should connect it on the original arnéss , can you help me please ?
Loved the explanation of how to get to the sub..."you remove it, in a nut shell". so do I need to search nut shell lol. just busting on you since it's kinda important. It would have been nice to see it
So it was only like 3 wires you connect from the metra swc interface to the cars wiring?
Correct
This is such a 90s dude who turned Suburban Dad who likes his tunes when going to and from work!!! lol!!!
Just an audio installer, helping people out
@@nightmarecivic I'm and Audio Guy too but still, this such a 90s Suburban Dad thing to do!!
@@xtraflo ended up building a fiberglass enclosure for a single 10. Much better sound from that. Of course I could throw my built ported box with a audiofrog 12 but I wanted trunk space. Plan in the future is upgrade speakers to audioson. Run a 5 channel arc audio black or JL XD amp and possibly a bit ten for an active setup. Along with building tweeter pods for on axis. No rear fill
@@nightmarecivic All that for a Subaru Outback? I was thinking at the most I might upgrade my Deck with higher wattage and replace the Rear Speakers with some Low Range, Mid Drivers. Should be enough..
All I gather is you're upset they didn't provide Subaru specific removal instructions.
When the process is over 4 hours you'd wish they had instructions. All the parts were not in my kit. All factory holes were not used. Bolts are now almost 2 years old starting to rust. (should be SS)
Do you think it's acceptable to sell a product that requires this kind of install and expect the buyer to figure out how to install it without any instructions? Honest question, because I think that's totally unreasonable.
Not sure if youve changed ypur setup, but using something like the lc2i pro loc will allow you to correct the bass rolloff from factory systems. Definitely would help. Also, probably would want a an enclosure for a sub like that or tey to look for an infinite baffle sub (assuming he oem sub wasn't fully enclosed, looks like ot was just shoved in the cavity of the car lol)
Ended up doing a JL amp and a 10 inch in a fiberglassed enclosure . Planning on using a audison DSP for active setup and time alignment in the near future along with some speaker upgrades and other goodies.
Hey I just wanted to add a new comment saying thanks for this. I tackled this yesterday and your video gave me the confidence to try. Aside from my harness being completely different than yours and requiring a different Metra kit, it works great. The amp turn on wire goes to the 24 pin connector (second pin from the right on the top). The reverse trigger wire is pin #3 (third one over from the left) on the green connector. (I just stuffed the wire from the radio in there). I spent about 2 hours trying to get the steering wheel controls working without the expensive magic box with no luck. Unlike other youtube videos that say just hook up the radio SWC wires with the metra SWC wires, it didn't work in my car. So I am getting the expensive magic box sent from amazon. Thank you!!!!
Hey Thanks for this. It gave me the confidence to tackle the rear camera install. However, I did get a kit with a square camera, and it still didn't fit the Subaru bracket (the holes were too far appart on the bracket. So I just did the same thing you did and drilled a hole in the plastic. Thanks for your ideas!
Well I tried tackling this this morning. Not a single plug in the metra kit you listed matches my 2010 outback. That was a whole lot of work for nothing LOL
You sure you don't have a 2009 or a different radio setup? Send me a PM and I can help. The 2010 I did was exactly like me 2013. Also is the new radio one of those android ones?
@@nightmarecivic oh that would be awesome. It is a 2010 outback limited I believe. I can send pics of info plate and connectors.ho do I dm someone in CZcams?
Never figured out how to send you a PM but I think I did find the harnesses I need. Metra 70-7553 for the outputs and 40-SB10 for the antenna. My only fear is a lot of the reviews for the 70-7553 say it doesn't have an amp turn on wire included in the harness. It also doesnt have reverse signal or SWC. But IU think I can pull the SWC jack off the one I bough earlier and pin it in to this one.
Wow that's a lot of work to get to the camera. I'm guessing it's impossible to do otherwise? Seems daunting.
at 14:28 you say "this is the only thing that should be coming out of this harness" but I have a blue wire and the metra instructions say to connect it to power antenna (+) from the radio's harness. Was I not supposed to do that?
Yes you don't use that wire. You can hook it up but it doesn't go to anything.
@@nightmarecivic oh okay. what about the wire on the antenna adapter?
FYI: Some head units support steering wheel controls without the need for the expensive little box. My Atoto F7 WE I just purchased has it built in. You just need to tie it's steering wheel wire into your harness.
Correct, just question the reliability of the android units. Not to mention poor DAC quality
WOW Thank you for this!!!! You rock! Been wanting to swap out this Harman Kardan FOR-EVER.
I did this on mine as well but my front speakers don’t turn on now, any tips?
How are your new speakers wired?
Hey man, great videos! Can you post a video to remove the factory amp? I have a 2012 Subaru 3.6R and have unplugged everything and it is still bolted into the floor. Any tips or tricks?
Can you explain about the sound again i have the same problem try to listen what u saying but I can’t understand
Can you provide more details in your question
A shop told me yesterday that no one on the planet can do this and i know i sure can’t but now i’m sad 😂
I can help you its pretty easy. I'm always amused when shops say something can't be done.
@@nightmarecivic i did find a shop that said it shouldn’t be a problem other than they weren’t sure if they could build a bezel for it. i said i could get the non-nav version off ebay, so they want me to bring that in when i get it. and then Crutchfield told me the non-nav one won’t work because it’s slightly different. Crutchfield currently has zero options on their site for this car/radio combo. 😐
How many ohms is the factory sub?
Have you done a video on your fender flares? I'm looking to install some on my 2010 Outback.
no sorry, I don't have plans to install them either.
@@nightmarecivic Ok. I guess I should clarify that I'm inquiring about the wheel arch moulding. Are they factory Subaru pieces?
Where your ground cable comes from?
Grounded using an O ring to the metal frame outlining the dash
@@nightmarecivic But the ground is coming from the ASWC or the radio harness?
I think I got it. Thanks from Florida
I have the other harmon kardon system that came with the 2.5i limted version of the car. Currently my stock sub is blown and i’m trying to replace. Would sound quality be fine with for instance a Skar 8inch 4ohm sub and the stock amp? And do you know how many watts I’m looking at without upgrading power?
You can replace it with the skar with no issues. But the factory one is a dual 4 ohm sub. Also you're only going to get about 60 watts out of the factory amp. I wasn't happy with the aftermarket sub running off the factory amp or even powering the 8 inch sub with a new amp.
@@nightmarecivic If I upgrade the sub and amp, would keeping it in the factory slot be a drawback? Whats the benefit of a box? Because even with the plentiful amount of cargo space i would like to be able to remove the sub out of the car if needed (if in a box) Thanks
I wonder if putting the JL in a box instead of where the factory one was would sound better.Even without the amp upgrade I gotta think it would ,no? I have an ascent and was curious about this whole project .Good video !
If the sub is very efficient it would probably help but I think the factory amp is only providing 50-100 watts to that factory sub. I know when I put the fiberglass enclosure with a Polk momo sub it made the ensure system come to life.
