Just found this on vhs on eBay. Perfect 😂
What a wonderful man and what a great lesson, just the best!
This is fantastic. Good old days where absolutely everything was done by hand... pure artistry.
That sort of Asian music in the background was typical of those years.
What kind of pencil is the one he use for darkening and details, at 1:59? It's a 4B, 6B?
I was wondering the same. Appears to be a black colored pencil. Sanford Design Ebony, actually, appears to be the lettering. Nowadays these are prismacolor, and the smooth quality of the pencil lead supports this.
I ordered a coffee mug
I am enjoying seeing this as much as learning... thanks!
Greetings from Perú
If your hungry you can go to a fast food joint, pick up a cheeseburger 🍔 and you won't be hungry anymore
I can't draw for the life of me, but this video was an amazing look at an artist who did many covers of a comic I love.
Thank you Joe!
I saw the great kubert explain the process of making illustration and a layout of the comic page but he didn't elaborate much on the how to transfer a somewhat messy rough sketch on to the final board...did he use a lightbox?
Yes, he used a light box.
Jack Kirby drew directly on the board. That's why he could get 17 pages done in a day.
@@rockon8174 thanks a lot !
@@rockon8174 thanks
Just watched this! Thank you
My high school studio art teacher was also very anti-illustration. I'm like -dude, have you seen DaVinci's doodles & illustrations? STFU get out of my way.
I wish I had this video when I was ten with my "How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way", it would have been invaluable to me.
The legend!
Could have used this( course) in the 1960's. vs selective teaching & teachers
.......ART .college teachers gave did not teach. ZERO TEACHING = PAYCHECK COLLECTORS (Ripping off the government (. SAD, it likely continues. Fraud. Charlatans
If I knew to make the drawing in pencil ,way before How to Draw Comics The ...., I would have been into comic drawing. Loved old newspaper comic strips. So many to name . They were inspirational. No teacher/ lesson = no progress !!!!
The first learning traditional practice! ✨️ thanks you for your expertise tips to the illustrators Artist Joe kubert's
It’s fabulous to be able to learn from Joe Kubert. He was very kind to me as a young pro. I wish I had something like this as a kid.
Does anyone know if Joe's school still offer correspondence courses?
We do! We have a variety of online studies courses as well! Visit www.kubertschool.edu for more information
@@thekubertschool8408 thank you very much
A true master. And his school and its artifacts are such a great legacy that he has left for all to benefit from.
Nobody gets me more pumped to set in a f’ing chair at a drawing table for 12 hours than the Todd Father.
Wait, where do I send my finished workbook!?
Amazing.
They brought the comic for Todd to sign so they could get it to CGC.
I've been collecting comics and drawing since I was a child. Joe is one of my favorites. One thing I notice when I watch this video outside of his great skill is that in the picture of the baseball player the bat and the ball are going the same direction. Is it a mistake? Is the batter just that ignorant? If he was trying to hit the pitch the motion lines would be in opposite directions. Just a thought
Great Joe Kubert. Good times
❤
Thank you for this. I miss Mister Kubert.
McFarlane is so funny. Just the way he tells the stories 😂🤣😂
that was a great video. thank you very much!
Legend of an artist. I took his course through the mail 20 plus years ago. I loved it that he would draw his corrections on tracing paper over yours. I saved those drawings for years but sadly I lost them in hurricane Harvey. I'm a professional graphic artist now and I still remember his instructions on selling the panel to the audience. What a master.

Would their be a way I could show you my work .
As far as his take on bad art I think he is only right to a point. I was a HUGE Jim Lee fan. Then he started mailing it in taking panels, pages and even covers and entire issues off. This went on for a long time before I just stopped buying his stuff. It wasn't free and I wasn't rich. The same reason I stopped going to McDonald's 20 years ago. I was tired of paying money for substandard product. In both cases.
Absolutely wonderful tutorials. 🥰
13:06 Wouldn't it be a double compliment since the person liked both the story and the art? Or alternative be, then why are you an artist?
Kubert is absolutely amazing and a great teacher, very helpful to me..
Love these Todd talks. Just put a camera on him, say hello and let him go, he'll keep an audience entertained for hours.
What is the ruler brand and we’re to buy it? Fascinating with your class. Thanks 😊
"Okay, I want 2 Be An Artistic Whore" - lol, lol, lol
This man was the MASTER!!
Lol at 1:00:45 Love that Todd is so honest. Hilarious and inspiring.
Legend.
My art teacher frowned upon cartooning and illustration too lol
Excellent lesson for comic creator learners thanks alot.
