Welcome to my channel Fossil Wildlife :)
My name is Basti (nickname of Sebastian) and I´m a fossil hunter from Germany.
Because I´m a member of a fossil club in my town I can go fossil hunting in all different quarries and fossil locations in Germany (and Europe) and I learn a lot from the other members.
I want to share my fossil adventures with you so come with me to explore the world of paleontology and to unearth these fossils of the prehistoric wildlife.

Fossil Hunting & Preparation: cretaceous sea urchins & lillies, fossils in Denmark, Holtug Kridtbrud
This is video #1 of my Denmark trip. In the next weeks you will see more fossil hunting and preparation videos of Danish fossils on my channel :)
Today I stay in a former quarry, called "Holtug Kridbrud" at Stevns Klint in Denmark.
I found some awesome marine fossils, like sea urchins, sea lillies, shells, an oyster, a brachiopod which are between 66 and 70 million years old (cretaceous).
I would really appreciate it if you LIKE this video and SUBSCRIBE to my channel :)

Any Hippopotamus fossils?
@@jonathanroberts-bj7yl not yet, but maybe some day... :)
What are the little clear stands you use for the jaws and where do you get them?
@@swamptosoundadventures8337 You can find these acrylic display stands in every fossil/mineral business. Best regards, Basti :)
Thank you for this! I have a jaw that could be the twin of that and someone told me it was a horse, I was really bummed because I thought it was a bison, glad to know it really is a bison. Super cool collection.
Nice to see you are back
There were Elephants and Rhinoceroses in Europe in that time.
I see those in the field but i never realize it only now
Good to see this is Europe instead of North America.
I need help identifying the many fossilized bones that I have found on this 10-acre hill in sw moussouri...
My study is Paleolithic stone tools...
Arthritis would probably have been a pain.
Needs the dentist.

Hey Basti, how are you doing? Any new projects coming up? Love you gravel pit and fossil display videos!!!
Hey ✌🏼 Thanks for your support! I'm fine, I started studying geosciences and it's really cool ⚒️🦖 Unfortunatly I can't find the time for editing videos for CZcams, I really loved it and it's a pity that I didn't upload videos for a while. Thank you 😊
Just subscribe to your channel, awesome videos man!!! I've got a bunch of fossils myself.

@fossilwildlife5198 no problem, hope you keep uploading 👍.
Did you get these preserved?
Yes 👍🏻 I use wood glue diluted with water
@@fossilwildlife5198 is there a reason for using wood glue instead of something like butvar?
I don't know butvar... I only have experience with wood glue
Really nice items! Have you checked the teeth for possible older rhino species?
Thanks 🙌🏻 I asked paleontologists so I'm sure that these belong to the Late Pleistocene 🤗
@@fossilwildlife5198 Good to hear, great teeth!

Unfortunately no, not yet 😉

Haha no I'm sure that I don't overlook a vert 😅 Best regards from Germany :)
Hi mate, greetings from the edge of Doggerland, North Norfolk, UK. I have many Mammoth molars from the beaches around Norfolk but most are either Steppe or Southern Mammoth plus a few partial Straight tusked Elephant. Woolly Mammoth molars are rare here, not because they were rare Mammoths but because the teeth are too young to have been mineralised enough to withstand the rigors of seabed erosion. Most Woolly Mammoth molars have already been smashed to pieces by the sea. That specimen you have is incredible, I estimate it's only 2/3 of it's original length and although much of the softer 'dentine' has rotted away, it's in remarkable condition, especially with the roots being mostly intact. Happy Hunting!!
Hey Louie, thanks for your comment! I wish you good luck for your next fossil hunts :)
I would use some clay or something similar and make a cast from the trilobite imprints you have. Those two little guys are awesome
This was a fun and interesting video. Congratulations on finding your crinoids! I especially liked your preparation of the brachiopod. It was very good to see that a person can prepare a fossil for display without already having air scribes and Dremel tools. This method that you demonstrates makes the idea of learning to prepare fossils seem much more possible. (Were you using a table knife to carve away some of the chalk?) The brachiopod display is beautiful.
Thank you so much for this kind comment 😃 I didn't used my Dremel because I didn't need it. Honestly I was thinking about using it, but I didn't want it because the probability that a part of the fossil can flake off (because of the vibration) is high. So I could work more accurate. The "knife" is a scalpel (with fixed blade) Best regards :)
Great video ! Could we have a video on your current collection? Thanks !
Hey Julien, glad you enjoyed the video 😃 Are you interested in a rough overwiew? So do you want to see all the filled showcases and cupboards I have in my house (with all different animals and geological eras)? Or are you looking forward to an overview just of my ice age fossils or what kind of "my fossil collection" video do you want to see?
@@fossilwildlife5198 I will find it interesting to be able to see them all, those from different geological eras (in your display cases) and those from the glacial area as you did previously. But maybe in two separate videos (if you want I don't force you) to make it simpler and clearer. Thank you for being so attentive to your community!😄
Hey Julien, OK awesome! Honestly you have to be patient because in the next weeks I will upload some more fossil hunting videos from Denmark (I found a lot) 😅 But I keep your suggestion in my mind, so I'm sure that you will see my collection in the next months 👍🏻 Best regards

I really appreciate all your comments 👍🏻 In the next weeks you will see awesome (cretaceous) fossils I found in Denmark :)
Nice hunting 👍
Thank you 🤠
The part of the video where you talked about how you could tell where the bison tooth sat in the jaw by looking at the number of (cusps?) was particularly interesting. Do you know if that tooth separated from the jaw before or after the animal perished? It seems like a difficult sort of tooth to lose in life.
The layer (also in the gravel pit) is river sediment, so the river transported the skeltons. And in the sand/ sediments in the river the bones were imbedded. These movements in the fossilization process are the cause that all kinds of bones and single teeth of different animals are together in one place. So the tooth separated after the animal perished 👍🏻 Thanks for commenting
@@fossilwildlife5198 Thank you for answering my question, and explaining how the separation probably happened!
The bison hoof bone, the horse tooth, and the deer leg fragment were all very neat to see. Thank you for showing us your fossil hunt. 🐾
And I say thank you that you are interested in these videos 🤠👍🏻
Nice to see you back out hunting and making videos, I've moved to a new location last year and no longer have the huge gravel extraction locally to hunt fossils, I miss it a great deal, But at least i can still watch your films to get my fix of the addictive environment of the gravel workings.

Amazing, and congratulations. I’ve done a palaeontological dig recently on the Isle Of Wight, England. We were excavating fossils from the Wessex formation (early Cretaceous). We found crocodile, dinosaur, and plant material in the beds we were excavating (plant debris beds).
Thank you 👍🏻 Wow that sounds really cool 😄 Was it a private tour? Or do you need a permission for fossil hunting there?
@@fossilwildlife5198 I did it with the nearby museum (Dinosaur Isle). We needed permission to dig into the cliff, but you can collect anything you find on the beach and keep it. I found part of an Iguanodontid ischium while I was there, as well as much more.
Crazy! 👍🏻⛏️
@@fossilwildlife5198 do you ever think you’ll head over here? Germanys got plenty of history, but it’s always good to try other countries. In my local area I’ve had Palaeolithic hand axes, Lutetian Eocene marine fossils, and all the finds on the Isle Of Wight. Potentially I could have a Baryonyx tooth I found a while ago (on the IOW).
To be honest, I plan visiting the UK next year (maybe summer/ autumn) but I thought about the east coast around Yorkshire (so far). I would be pleased about information around your region because it sounds so great. If you have Instagram you can send me a message for more details

That’s baby deer 🦌 fossil interesting 🤨
I recently found a hunk of tusk, I think mastodon, on the Arkansas river. My question is how can I preserve it
Wow, Congrats! Tusk is very fragile and falls apart fast. So I hope you have stored the piece in cold and shady place. Because tusk dries out with sunshine. Now you preserve it with a type of glue, for example Paraloid B72. I use wood glue Ponal, which I mix with water at a ratio of 1:3 to stabilize ice age bones and tusk 😃
Hey Basti, are you hibernating or something? 😁 I miss your video's! Take care my friend!
