DEFENDER BUILD: Black Roof Respray (PART 3)

In part 3 of the Defender build the off road 4x4 gets a roof re-spray. I opted for a gloss black roof over the Keswick Green body colour to gloss black as I like the contrast of the black and green. I chose to do the roof spray now as the next part will be a full length roof rack and once that is on it will be staying on. Should have got the long legs and enabled the table mounting. It is such a space saver mod.
lol 😂 What a lovely funny guy your dad is 😂👌
Have been looking at one of these vans to take to France for my snowboarding adventures. Though I wondered about insulation in the pop top?
Sticky beaks that'd rather watch netflix than understand nature amd what we do in it. Hate those people
Looks amazing!
that police notice though
Finchampstead represent 🙌🏽
Any chance you are going to offer EU shipping this time round?
It’s great watching this build progress 👍🏻
Fair play buying one of these am looking at getting one 🤪 ive got a heavily modified d2 atm that needs work aswell 😂 good video lad 👍
What happened to the army landrover? Edit: clearly I made this comment before watching the whole video lol. Looking forward to a wee update on that! Also looking forward to brown trekker bags hopefully coming back into stock at some point haha
looks good. But what about the Lightweight...?
I mentioned in the video. Will start videos on that soon!
Hi Mike - great video, really enjoy watching your channel :-) Where are you based roughly? I swear I've seen you a few times now when driving home! I'm south of Reading. Almost finished coverting my 110 Hard top to a basic camper and rebuilding a SWB S3 V8 - kettle is on if you ever fancy a brew :-)
nice setup. have a great day
Hey man can please get a link to the different thread please
looks like you are really making it your own
Thanks, I’m really pleased with it. Still a few additions but love it so far and I’m enjoying the process.
this is so cool...what a sweet ride when it's all done!
Getting there now!
Looks good, suggest you use some nylock nuts on the panel bolt's so they don't come undone after a while.
Good shout! Thank you
Looking great Mike!
Thank you!
Looks great! More fun than a dub!!! Love it!!!
Haha thanks! I did love my dub for pure camping purposes it was hard to beat. But not so good at getting up the rutted woodland track to my woods!
Why put it on the left? You've blocked the driver's rear-view. 🤨🙂🇺🇸
Right hand drive
@@kingrafa3938 .Right hand drive is why it's a problem. The driver can't see out the rear window on their side.
I have wing mirrors to see out the sides, and it doesn’t block any of my rear view mirror either.
@@LifeofMikeOfficial I should have written "rear side window." I was considering the view when looking back over your left shoulder-' Not crucial, but considering the options... Perhaps you opted wisely for curbside access when parallel parked to avoid traffic?
Yeah exactly that, I keep recovery gear in here. If I pull over on a U.K. road and have this gullwing on the right side of my vehicle I would be standing in the way of oncoming traffic which is dangerous. So rear left side makes sense 👍🏻
You need a 270 degree awning, I got a 23zero one, best thing i ever put on. Also a small fold down table on the back door is so handy for cooking.
Sold my 270 deg. awning a while ago as I never used, it just added more weight up top, never good, made more wind noise and likely used more fuel. I would maybe get a smaller one but these days we use a stand alone awning. We tend to set up in one spot and then go and do things from there.
@oldbloke204 Had a smaller one 2.5m by 3m I think which was fine but the 270 one can be set up without poles quickly if just pulling up for lunch somewhere and packs away pretty quick too. Yeah, it is a lot bulkier, but for me I sleep under it too, plus room for table and chairs and cook around at the back door. I like the stand alone awnings but they don't fold down small and will have to go on the roof racks so it probably creates more drag.
@@ike8236 Yeah the free standing ones are better, mine wasn't so was a pia to set up, but they're also heavier. I use a tent and I like to base camp so that a kitchen etc can be set up and left in place wherever we are. Horses for courses for sure and plenty of 4wd'ers here in Australia use them. Personally I would love to have a lightweight off road Poly trailer that could go anywhere my vehicle could go but they're very expensive and I just wouldn't use it enough. Certainly plenty of options these days. Cheers.
Watch this space!!
Greetings and a hug from Tijuana Mexico 🇲🇽🇲🇽🤗🤗
I've got the Molle grill system on my back door window of my defender, work's really well 👍
I saw these the other day! Going to get some for the rear window too, just for some added security more than anything.
@@LifeofMikeOfficialyes it does help for added security as well.
@@LifeofMikeOfficial Does it rattle any bit.Was thinking you could cut out foam the shape of what your hanging & have the straps coming out around it. Kinda like a tool board when you draw the shape of the tool that goes too that particular spot. 👍🇮🇪
How did you end up fitting the projector screen up?
I just hung it on some karabiner hooks to the loops on the projector screen itself
What an impressive work by the guys and thanks Mike for sharing this one to us.
That looks so good great video.
Nice
This has been exceptionally informative, sharing details I have not seen before.
What a work of art!
Awesome video, nice to see all the hard work that goes into making one.
Hi Mike I’m new to this channel! I’ve been following you on TA outdoor channel!! really enjoyed watching how your friend forged the axe!! Outstanding !! I’m loving both channels and content!! Nicely done!! From Washington state, USA 🇺🇸
Many thanks! And thank you for following along on this channel too.
Any idea when the 3rd batch of axes might be ready? These beauties sell out faster than hotcakes!
In about 2 weeks, and this will be the last batch with this type of wood as it was always going to be limited to this 100 year old tree. After that we are still going to make the axes but they won’t have the same wood handle it will be slightly different (but still Ash!)
@@LifeofMikeOfficial Great! Thanks for the info! I was wondering what would happen after the ash has been used up.
Could watch this all day. Roll on round two.
Thank you!
Absolutely great video Mike, and so interesting to see a craftsman who really knows his stuff. Can’t wait for part two, great job.👏 👍
Thank you!
Awesome video! Very well explained. Very inspitational as well! Joe, you're a great teacher. Mike, well done for finding this shop to collaborate with! 🙏🌈
Thanks! Really happy to be working with the guys at Thorn Wood.
Thanks! Shared this around, lovely to see even if my heart prefers double edged steel. 😂 I do appreciate a good axe!
Many thanks!
2.07 yes bruv, it certainly is.
I'm guessing the Alec Steele Co. would have been too expensive to produce and ship these to the UK? Would have made a brilliant colab, maybe for a one off limited production run?
Yes it would have been cool but Alec is a very busy man and has plenty of projects going on! Plus I wanted to help out a small U.K. business and support them so this is why I went with Thorn Wood Forge.
Really impressive to watch
What you self entitled idiots can't fully understand us that your air rifles looks exactly like real rifles anyone that doesn't know that you're playing in the woods with air rifles will automatically assume they are real rifles so whoever did the only correct thing and call the law it's all on you stop whining and your rage ranr id meaningless facts

My dad needs a pruning knife for the garden but i don't want to suggest it in case somebody says a man is waving a knife around and he gets shot or heart attacked by armed police. The media are distorting who the crime people are so regular people think people like us are the danger. The people doing the weapon attacks are rarely people like you or my elderly father. Instead i leave him to struggle with aging hands while squeezing secateurs and an inferior pruned English garden.
