At least in Germany many, many people, including me, were totally blown away („schockverliebt“ as we say here) when Mumford‘s music hit our hearing nerves for the first time. Although, or perhaps because many professional music critics had nothing but hate and disdain for their musical style. Something too popular - and at the peak of their career M&S were really popular here - just couldn’t be good for critics’ taste. It is good that new generations of listeners are rediscovering M&S, also through their lyrics that were absolutely underrated at their heyday.

I remember the very first song I heard from Mumford and Sons was Roll Away Your Stone on the radio around 2011, didn’t remember who they were or the song but I remember how much it stood out with the use of the banjo and then heard I Will Wait in 2018, looked it up and had no idea it was by them too. Then I just started listening to a bunch more songs on Apple Music by them and ran into this song which is one of my top 5 favorites by them. Heck I didn’t even know they were a British band until I looked them up and this song really brings out their accent the most.

1st time I listened to this song I realised my marriage was over and I left humming this to myself.

I’ve been living in a cave of prescription meds for opiate addiction. After 6 years I found this song and it was almost the single thing that put me over the hump I needed to take the last stride to get off the shit. I left home on airplane with this on repeat and I just arrived back home to the same masterpiece. Thanks God for showing me how to leave the cave.

Recently started listening to this band, I was always aware of them but never listened to them frequently. I wish I started listening to them sooner! I’m listening to each album in order now, I’m only on the second song and I’m In love!

I never understood the lyrics but years later in my thirties I realized that the character singing is a real dick. Guy is making the other person’s problems about him but the melody is soaring and white knight-ish. It’s kinda nauseating but also a banger. Curious song indeed.

Breaking my Heart - he's been so far away for so long.. the distance is felt within Heart too. It's time to set everything Free. Him. My Heart too. Any outcomes, or strategy, plans, expectation, etc. If it's not Raw, it is not Real. We come from a long line of many Peoples, we love them. Learning and collecting pieces/memories altogether.. We love us, and setting ourselves/them free.. in an adventure through life, that is the wildest Rollercoaster ride may be a way of showing them that Love. Right, Right?.. Meaning - to fully have a life of our Own, we must give up all outside (Heart) influence to find our soul/purpose and with whom. Our Hearts are the most pure part of who we are. How do we offer our Hearts to another?... Time. Connection/Interest. Respect. Building a foundation with blocks of love through bonding/friendship. So.. it's not hard to feel like we are giving/loving, building. Is it?.. As long as we are building within Oneself too. Let go of what everything is suppose to be, and just Feel it. Using Logic/Intuition too. Everything works out the absolute Best for Everyone with Good intention behind it. .. or do I seem naive?..

This song reminds me of my brother. He died back in November. I tried helping him but it wasn't enough. He had his demons but I know deep down he cared about everyone he met.

This song helped me process and get over a very toxic friendship. It helped me realize it was her that was wrong and find my strength in walking away from her.

My parents are in the beginning stages of a divorce that's been coming since they married, between the constant fighting and nasty comments (mostly from my father) I'm surprised they made it twenty years without snapping; but that's besides the point I'm going for. I've always loved music, and I've always used it as an escape from whenever they are fighting or whenever I'm sad, and songs like this are always helpful to get me to not cry. I'm terrified for the future, my mother is physically disabled and can't work a normally job due to chronic pain, I'm terrified for the future if we end up homeless because I dont know if my father will be civil in court, Hell I don't really even know him, I can't remember the last time I had a conversation with him that actually had any sort of weight behind it, and my mother doesn't have any family even remotely close to where we live. Sorry if you had to read this sad ramble of hopelessness, I'm just scared for what's to come.

I was in a relationship with a narcassist and I broke up with her because she cheated on me and blamed it on me. When I realized I deserved more, I left. This song makes me think of this. Especially the "I won't let you choke on the noose around your neck" because when she found out I knew, she tried to hurt herself in front of me and I ended up comforting her all day. I found the strength in my pain to walk away, I will learn how to hope again. And Im learning who I am by myself again so that I will know my name as it's called.

I was taught that this song was filled with references from The Odyssey. If you pay attention literally every verse is something that happens in the Odyssey; such as the cannibals that gave them the lotus flowers, the suitors who were hung with a nuse, they tied the men to post and blocked their ears so they couldn't hear the sirens call, on the island the men came out walking on their hands after they were turned into pigs and everything!
