    The trim on the window ledge… have you put a grout gap or just butt straight against it. Just thinking if there is no gap for grout would water get in if it’s a wet area?

    • @thebespokebloke
      @thebespokebloke Před 23 hodinami

      Hey, Yeah you have a little grout joint there, Normally by the nature of the tile shape, You will get a natural joint against trim even if you aren't creating your own one. You can also CT1 or seal that trim edge before setting the tile, For extra assurance if you needed it.

      Thanks mate, Much appreciated! Yeah that was a good few days of hard work packed into an easy 10 minutes! Ha. I wear kneepads in the Winter in my trousers, But in the Summer I generally perform an awkward squat to stay off my knees, ha. Nice, The shower ceiling video is nearly done, I've just been playing with a slightly different on camera style, To make it a bit more exciting, than just watching me struggle placing tiles on the ceiling haha. But I can make a longer length to that one as well, If needed. But hopefully should be done for the weekend!

    Great video again! Really well explained. Could you use the rectangular plastic type shims instead of backer board? Or would they not mix well with the self leveller? Thanks for all your efforts and tutorials 👌👏

    • @thebespokebloke
      @thebespokebloke Před 4 dny

      You're welcome, Glad you liked it! You could and some people do, But for that exact reason you touched on.. Backerboard is a good bond to keep the strength in the self Leveling. Where as (although unlikely to cause massive issues ) plastic could cause a bit of cracking were the bond wouldn't be as good. So using Backerboard it's basically guaranteeing no issues and keeping a solid base. Not to mention, You can even use it for when you need expansion.

    Could you please tell me what the standard height of a niche should be?.. this video was so unbelievably helpful! We have the same type of tile with ridges and our tile installation is happening in a couple of days. Thank you so much for making this video.

    • @thebespokebloke
      @thebespokebloke Před 7 dny

      Awesome, Perfect timing! Around 1.2 metres (which is normally half height of a room) is always a good starting point. Then really after that, It depends on you height for reaching things and ease of use e.t.c. Then after that it's good to take into account the tiles..It's nice to work a full tile off the bottom of the niche (if it works out fine every else) if possible as it visually looks better than a cut. The one is this video was about 1.35 I think. Normally when the niche is being made though we oversize it, and shrink it to the tiles, as it's a lot easier to add backerboard to it to reduce the size to fit the tile, if that makes sense. So for example if you had tiles that were 60cm and you wanted your niche at 1.2M finish height, So roughly 2 tiles to the floor from the niche..2x tiles plus a 2mm spacer would be around 1.22m. But I'd actually make the niche lower at about 1.18 off finish floor height, That gives 2cm ish wiggle room, and allows the trim to be installed like in this video (as you have to overlap it by a tiles width). Bit long winded but I hope that makes some kind of sense, ha. But yes somewhere around 1.2 give or take is a good standard height.

    • @thebespokebloke
      @thebespokebloke Před 17 dny

      Hey, Generally I wouldn't worry to much about height as you'll always have small and big cuts whatever. In that particular example I took a full tile (corner) off of the bath. So you'll see I measure the tiles when they are on the floor and transfer that line to the wall. So I'd lay a few out , Get the height from a few tiles, draw a line and work down from there. If you're talking about flipping the entire pattern, You'd still centre through the middle of the tiles. It's a bit hard to explain but if you lay some out, the way you want them and put the centre through the same place in the tile, you'll get it. The pattern will just be alternate each side off the top of my head.

    • @thebespokebloke
      @thebespokebloke Před 22 dny

      Thanks mate, I'd probably work of the rear wall with a centre line down the middle of the floor.. You will always get with herringbone, the likelihood that some cuts work well and others will be smaller,. So you've got a good chance when you get to your door the cuts will be fine
