Making a jewelry collection with gems I found in North Carolina
Come hang out & watch me make a jewelry collection with some of the very first gems I found rockhounding in North Carolina 💘

If you’d rather learn how to find your own gems instead, I have something for you too 👇🏻

Okay… I can’t post this without saying a little something here. I am in the process of teaching myself silversmithing, and even though I’m getting better at it, I can’t don’t have time to make all my own settings by hand. It still takes hours for me to pull together one silversmithed piece, and I’m just one person! I work with a lovely jewelry team in Canada that makes solid silver & gold settings using CAD designs, and they are the best. Working with them to make settings saves me so much time and allowed me to focus on my true passion - FACETING GEMS!
All that to say, I hope you all still enjoyed this video even though I’m not *technically* making every part myself. Putting together a collection this way is still a fun process, and I wanted to give you all a little look into it.
See you in the next one!
🤍 Taylor

awesome results!
You are so incredibly talented! Bless your magnificent heart!!
😊
Outstanding work, they look great! And smithing soft metals is a very rewarding process, I wish you luck!
Thank you so much!! It seriously is. I was over the moon when I smithed my first ring even though it took a full day and looked kind of awful 😂
Gorgeous 😍!
Thank you! ☺️
That triangle shape is so smooth. Would like it in a bracelet.
That would be beautiful! I’d be happy to make you a custom bracelet with that piece if you’d like :)
Could you do this with only old small piece of earth? Like a rock you've found?
When it is not transparent the whole point of faceting is gone. But of course you can still do it even if the whole point of it is gone..
nice
❤❤
Hi Tay ! How many hours did this take ?😊
Hi! This one took 5 or 6 hours I’d say 💗
I thought rubies are florescent , not sapphires
Usually, yes! Some sapphires (or ruby/sapphire mixes) contain chromium which is the element that makes rubies fluoresce :)

Beautiful sapphire, and skillful faceting! Love how UV reactive this one was
Thanks so much! And me too, I was thrilled when it lit up like that
❤
At first, I thought that stone unworthy, but now after watching the video more than 6 times it has grown on me and I see the beauty of it.
This is awesome!
Thank you! ☺️
cabochon is better
cabochons are definitely cool with tons of jewelry applications! But faceting is an incredibly skilled process and really brings out the light of a gem, and when it's set in jewelry can really transform the piece!
is it possible to make a gem from something like gneiss? I've been collecting some with beautiful colors.
You can definitely do something with gneiss! I wouldn’t recommend faceting for material like that, but you could have them cabbed (polished with a domed top) to show off the colors better ☺️
@@tayraegems THank you so much for replying! I have just gotten into rock hunting and I have found some beautiful gneiss with pink, red and white swirls. I dont think I will ever get into actually using them but finding the gems is what I love to do!
You did incredible!! Do you mind if I ask how much time from start to finish?
Thanks so much! This piece took about 4 hours :)
@@tayraegems oh wow that's fast! Thanks for the video 🙂
A message to you Rudy
It's amazing how faceting can bring out such beauty and really show the colours of the sapphire 🔥. Btw greetings from Greece ✌️✌️
Thank you so much! It’s wild to see how far my little videos make it around the world, and I’m glad you enjoyed watching the process 💗
Her smile is amazing 😁❤
Beautiful color 😍
Thank you! :)
I like the hexagonal shape 😍
Me too! It’s so unique 🥰
👍💎🌀
Very nice! That UV reactive sliver tripped me out!
Thank you! Me too, I always like to check my finished stones and I was so surprised when it actually showed up on this one 😂
I do not have the patience to do the cutting, but I sure do appreciate watching you! so soothing!
Faceting is definitely not for everyone (and honestly I’m not even sure where I got the patience for it), but I’m so glad you enjoy watching! ☺️
Miss Tay, I had a most enjoyable look at what you did there. I have not started faceting yet but I will as soon as I think I know enough to start. I built my machine from the bottom up and to my surprise it worked as I had planned it. Looking forward to learning more about faceting, BTW I'm 73 and plan to finish out by doing a passable cut. TTFN
That’s incredible! I don’t think I’ve heard of someone building their own faceting machine before. Any age is a great age to get into faceting, and I’m sure you’ll be cutting some incredible stones in no time :)
So glad i found your channel. Gorgeous sapphires. ❤❤❤
What a beautiful sapphire
Thank you so much! ☺️
You should do a video of a fire quartz item, it’s one of my favorites
Superbe piece et saphir unique et naturelle. ❤🎉
Where did you learn how to do this? I've looked and can't find any info
I learned how to facet at William Holland in Georgia! Some local universities offer programs, but I’d recommend looking for a smaller school of lapidary arts near you :)
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me 🙏. I will look into it
it’s gorgeous!
Thank you! :)
Very cool to see sapphires! I didn't know the state had any
Isn’t it awesome?? This state is full of gems and I had no idea for most of my life!
انا افضل حجر العقيق الاحمر..... ونقش علي العزة لله جميعا ❤
لدي احجار مشابهه لهاذي الاحجار لاكن ماعرف هل هم ياقوت ام نوع اخر
I love you it makes my heart so full of joy. It's Beautiful how my Father Gets his Angels ready for their mission on this lifetime<3 :') The work could be done faster. All you need is spirit and water. (The holy spirit) and a brush lol xD that's what the whole book of the Bible comes to. The Coming of a Christ (devine knowledge) and Our Generations Golden Era:D imo excited. Such precious stones
❤
This stone is suitable for cabings, and suppose star possible shows when Polish
i have never sold anything, to this point.
The garnets don't appear clear. Are they when cleaned?
Most of them are not! I’ve seen a few cut pieces from this location end up having some clarity, but most will be opaque and are likely to star
The amount of garnets is impressive.
Thank you! It shocks me every time I go there.
One last thing! These are available now :) Head over to my site to shop! (www.tayraegems.com)
