I worked in Scott tallow walker Merrion sq back when the dublin council comp was won I say lambay should not be in the hands of Any SIR it should be in the hands of the irish people and maybe we could use it to house refugee while they asses the claims of said fakeugees .😮
Very interesting and Lutyens's work here very well explained. The gardens look rather sad though.... Of course this is filmed in late winter, but you can see, even at that season, there is quite a lot of work needed to pull the weedy gardens up to scratch, prune, mow and replant with fresh stock. Surprising if there is not enough money available to maintain the gardens as they should be, bearing [or Baring] in mind who owns it.....🤔
These plants also deserve to be free - grow as in wild - humans so frequently 'ruin' a landscape with their rigid thoughts

My step grand mother always spoke about that she was born on Lambay and stayed there until she was five when her family moved to Dublin, In her later years her children bought summer homes off the north Beach in Rush.

The hunts are for culling. There are no natural predators on the Island.
Great to see this. Lutyens has to be the most thoughtful and talented architect of his generation, in my opinion.
Was always intrigued by Lambay. I wrote to Lord Revelstoke who owned Lambay asking if me and my family could visit. Revelstoke (as he used to sign his letters) did not grace me with a reply. Think the Baring family who were a Banking family got much of their fortune from generous compensation from Parliament for the loss of their slaves after the Abolition of Slavery.
For comparison. Garnish Island world renowed island. Derreen Garden world renowed welcome.

Nice Vid Caroline, beautiful place! Did you happen to see any remains of the earlier church settlement that got attacked by vikings in 795? I believe it was situated to the west of the current chapel.
