    Unreal Engine VR Game Dev here. Unreal Blueprints is exactly the same as c++. Tip for beginners: Start with blueprints and then move your code to c++. I will recommend you a good IDE like Rider, this makes your life MUCH easyer. C++ is not that hard as you expect it. The .h file makes your life also much easyer because the declarations of you functions are outside the logic part. I dont know why you add the inequality sign to mobile with unreal. If you want to export your game to android, unreal automaticly installs android studio and compile your apk automaticly for you, so mobile with unreal engine 5 is not a problem at all.

    Flax engine is very good and easy to use. Allows C++ and C# scripting + visual scripting. Unigine is a high end engine, and comparable with UE. ....also C++ and C# scripting.... but more complex than flax engine (my impression)

    Hi Samyam, I just wanna let you know that i use your touch screen codes in my ebook: How i get tricked by Unity (on amazon). I have put in a link to your youtube channel. My knowledge about input system is basically from you. Thank you very much. Here is what i put in the book: Samyam has put up quite a few great videos on the input system including touchscreen and i learn quite a lot. She is developing her own game and please feel free to check it out: LINK. It is on page 845. There is no need to buy the book. I only get like 25% out of the sales anyway. I just wanna share how a beginner like me codes in unity and what resources are available. Thank you again and keep up your work. Look forward to your game success soon.

    Just a note re: motivation. Both a talk I saw and my brother (3D artist who had maybe one course in C# in university) observed that Godot tends to be more fun to work with than Unity. Based on my own observations (eg. being called in by him to consult as the "running Linux and coding in multiple languages for over two decades" guy), it's partly because Unity's APIs remind me of C++ and their API documentation reminds me of Linux (i.e. introducing whole new ways to do things while still keeping old ones around and it's not always clear whether the advice you're trying to follow is still relevant) and also partly because, again in C++ tradition, Unity's approach to ECS has a bit of a "prioritize optimizing for performance, even if that makes for APIs or IDE UI elements that have non-obvious rough edges or large learning curves" feel to it.)

    Things you WILL do if you want to make a game solo: Code Model (or make sprites) Animation Level Design Balance Now I'm definitely a noob, but going into this with the idea that you're not going to do one of those is absurd and quite frankly arrogant. If you think you're too good to code or model, find something else you're willing to get your precious hands dirty doing.

    Unity is a really bad idea. They just might change their terms of service midproject. The engine is fine, the legal stuff is not. So IMO it is Unreal vs Godot. Do not misunderstand me Unity is great I used it a lot more than Unreal and I barely used Godot, but legal stuff is legal stuff.

    I have a love hate relationship with Godot. As much as I love how intuitive the engine is to use, there are so many changes happening that cause engine stability and compatibility issues even with minor versions.I really don't recommend Godot if you're expecting seamless incremental updates between engine versions even with minor ones. Till this day I still use Godot 3 for my commerical projects.

    You forgot to mention the Workflow of the Editors. All Engines behave really heavy differenzly when it comes to the Editors. Whipe Unity is organized and mostly does work from Components and Docks, Unreal relies on many.. mannny.. maaaanny Windows.. (i'm so glad for my two widescreen Monitors...).. While godot is more minimalistic and you can work within one window for all.. And the Learning curve also depends on how you can handle the Editors. I was not really a Fan of Unities Editor.. i tried for some Years.. and it lost me.. But Unreal perectly suits me and i'm happy with it. So.. the allover Feeling about the Handling of the Engine Editor is something to take in Account, too.

    For a solo game developer - simplicity should be the main point of consideration. You will spend too much time on fighting UI and complexity of the more advanced engines and you will lose a lot of time for researching on nuances buried deep in the documentation. Also, in such case, I would recommend using engine supporting dynamically typed, interpreted scripting language (such as Python, LUA, Javascript or specifically for Godot - GDScript), since it's simpler to read and get through in small projects. The thing that really matters is time to market. You want your game released as soon as possible. Of course you may be a hobbyist and if so - the above is irrelevant (just have fun ;)

  • @GarryGri
    @GarryGri Před 3 dny

    If this is for beginners I think it's important to note that Engines, Frameworks ,and Game Makers were all covered here and those are all different things! Engines, like Unity and Unreal, give you an integrated environment that you have to both build youre game in and adhere to. Frameworks, basically give you a set of programming tools that you can use with your program, but the nature of the code is up to you. Game Makers, are sort of similar to Engines but tend to do even more for you, with the trade off that is les flexibility. I know that's a very simplified description but I think it caches the basic differences. Personally I prefer frameworks and was sad when Microsoft dropped XNA. But there isn't really a correct option, whatever works for you.
