Nice video!!! Are you familiar with the Alfred's Basic Piano Library (Lesson Book Complete Levels 2 & 3: For the Late Beginner)? I finished the first level, and I was unsure if I should buy level 2 & 3 together in one book, or Level 2 and Level 3 separately. Thanks! :)

In terms of the cover, it's always children and teenagers on the cover, but lots of adults and older adults take up the piano too. Why not have an adult on the cover sometimes? It's not only children who play piano..

I agree about the rip off factor. I often only like one or two pieces out of 9 and don't know where to buy the full selection, which is probably expensive too!? I think they assume everyone who learns piano is middle class and has plenty of money. Or fairly well off parents who don't mind spending the money for their children to learn piano. 😮? I have the G3 book, there isn't one Jazzy piece, which I often prefer. There are two musical show/film numbers, like The Muppet Show Theme, as an adult I'm not that keen There is also one from an animation film, from Spirited Away, which I do like, and looks relatively easy, maybe G2? Also agree with you about leaving out more well-known pieces.

I’m glad you taught me how slurs and ties work, both are extremely important to the instrument of piano, rather hearing cut of notes also pitches. Making songs especially in the TRC book makes it sound really smooth and it just teaches me.

Thanks for this summary Stefan, as usual, it was interesting and very informative. Trinity has adopted something new recently for the pieces where they allow students to use past pieces so you do not have to buy new books to have the latest pieces if you already had books with older syllabi.

I'm back watching this after one year and I faithfully played through Vol. 1 twice. For some reason, I didn't practice Vol. 2, but that has changed this week. I've been playing two part Bach Chorales and Burgmller up to about the 10th song. I'm transposing them into other keys, so it's taking me longer. But it really helps for music theory.

CORRECTION: In RCM the number of pieces can range from 3 to 5 depending on the level (1-10).

Could you do a video about trying to follow these solo and doing these exams completely online? I don't have any locations near me that i could get lessons or do exams. The info online seems very confusing, looks like abrsm offers some exams online but not everything, not sure if the others are any better.

So could we say that RCM has some extra POPtions?

With rcm you can get a piano teacher certification once you reach level 9

I completed ABRSM Music Theory from each Grade of 5 to 8. And I personally feel that the theory syllabus makes more sense compared to the other boards. In terms of Piano, I did Trinity and yes, the scales and studies really help a lot in the development of the technical skills. The piano pieces for ABRSM and Trinity are more or less about the same, and one cannot simply assume ABRSM pieces are harder than Trinity; or vice versa. For Violin and Viola, I did ABRSM cos those are my principal instruments and the exam board was determined by my teachers last time.

Is there sheet music for all 48 pieces or must I search the internet for the rest? I know there are recordings of the 48, but how else can I study them? Thanks for all you do!

I am a hardcore gamer who can precisely press any button on the keyboard in a millisecond and I always had an interest in piano... I bought a keyboard yesterday and my fingers refuse to do anything independently... "They dive together or not at all" I thought piano would be comparatively easier or atleast a little bit familiar but he'll no... My brain literally gets fried everytime I sit to play... My left and right hands refuse to sync and my hand placement and sliding is definitely shit...

oh this just made something click in my mind, For grade 4 piano i had to play a tango. I had never played that type of music at the easier levels. Looking back I could have looked for tangos i grade 1-3 level. it might have made it easier. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve been playing for about 4 years now. I struggle to quiet my left hand so it doesn’t overpower the melody in the right hand. Any tips you might have to help overcome this challenge would be greatly appreciated.

We all have busy lives. Before we get into piano (keyboard), we should plan ahead how much time we can practice each day. If we have many activities during the week, we need to consider what is more important and drop some of the less important ones if we want to focus on piano. Many parents enroll their kids into a music program or with a private teacher. if they're going to spend many hours on social media, they're not interested in piano. People who are interested in piano and have the time would practice at least an hour a day. A person who practices regularly everyday would add up to at least 365 hours a year. Keeping track of his practice hours wouldn't be necessary. It's only the ones who lack the motivation to practice need to keep record of the hours. If a person feels he needs to be reminded to practice all the time, he's probably not interested in music and should consider quitting.

“A lot of very slow practice” ….. but I’m getting there, slowly. I’m not a deliberate memoriser but I had to be for this exercise.

Love this. I am playing Burgmuller pieces to improve technique. The tempo as in the sheet is far too fast and in any case, the pieces sound much better slower. Do have more tutorials on Burgmuller please. I am a self learner and appreciate your analysis of the notes. Thank you.
