Welcome to my channel. I post short videos of my garden railway or occasionally a video of my large scale engines.
Trojan marine steam engine
A short clip of a recently completed marine engine to the "trojan" drawings by Edgar Westbury.

3.5" LBSC Speedy chassis

Recently rebuilt chassis for a GWR 15xx similar to LBSC's Speedy design.
Stuart Turner 10V

A short video of a recently completed engine running on compressed air.
3.5" gauge Darjeeling B class
zhlédnutí 889Před 4 lety
After 4 months in hibernation, I took the opportunity to Run the B class for the first time this year. The loco was built in the mid 2000's using the original works drawings from Sharpe Stewart. It appears as the full size loco did in the early 70's with many of the alterations from the original design. Although the loco runs on 3.5" gauge it is larger and heavier than many 5" gauge engines.
Rob Roy at Hady Hill
zhlédnutí 8KPřed 7 lety
A short video of my 3.5" gauge Rob roy in steam going round Chesterfield model engineers track at Hady hill.
Mamod steam crane TE1a
zhlédnutí 11KPřed 8 lety
A short video of my working Mamod steam crane, modified from a standard traction engine.
And what does the steam roller’s whistle sound like?
Why does the steam roller and any kind of steam engine need oiling?
Oil allows the metal on metal surfaces to move freely and reducing wear significantly.
@@DLRTV Oh yes I see good point.
@@DLRTV And what does the whistle sound like?
@@DLRTV And I like red flywheel on the steam roller! what sort of flywheel is this called? It's solid, it has 3 very small holes in it and I remember there are some flywheels like this that are black too! Take a look at these videos czcams.com/video/SUeSHM2IBuE/video.html & czcams.com/video/AHiNtwwkC7M/video.html
@@ericspreviewshow1803 IT doesn't work very well, producing a loud hiss rather than a note
I was impressed! One can do a lot with the little Mamods! They're great runners! Nice work, well done!
Looks like you had a good run, I'm still getting used to mine. Not finding it easy to keep a tiny fire behaving!
Try a 3/4" traction engine lol??
@@nosbig11 if I ever get the chance!
Well done
Simplicity? It looks anything but simple to me start with the position of the boiler, yet a really cool engine to watch👍runs so smoothly 👌
nice loco ,is it running on o or g gauge track
It's running on 32mm or O gauge.
@@DLRTV thank you,i found your prints, and have started to build it for 45mm track
How I am I suppose even get my hands on one of these?
There are various websites where you can buy used models, however, the usual way is to build them yourself.
Is that a 4" scale engine?
It is 4" scale, the prototype is quite small so it makes a compact model.
@@DLRTV many thanks, it looks well.
You’ll you know where I could find plans, castings ? I would love to see more video of your engine. Thank you
There aren't plans or castings for this engine. It is a one off using the original works drawings and machined from solid stock. There are plans available from Blackgates engineering for a very similar locomotive.
@@DLRTV Thank you
Wonderful build. Great job
What is the size of piston❓
1.125" bore and 1.5" stroke.
@@DLRTV Please specify in millimeters.
@@sourabhquestionpaper1260 28mm bore and 38mm stroke.
@@DLRTV thank you
Very cool!
back when steam rollers were actually steam rollers
Fantastic loco! Loved it!! I'm planning to build this one from the stores articles by Ray McMahon that appeared in ME.
Love it.
Great video 😊👍
Cool vid 😊👍
Very nice, is this your roller Dan?
Belongs to another club member, just needed a quick tidy to get it going again.
@@DLRTV ah, right.
Congratulations!
Very nice to see!
Nice roller. I have a 1/3 Aveling and porta steam roller
Oh Yes ; Steam roller model well known in Germany
How do I prime the mechanical water pump?
What coal are you using?
Matt Seymour most likely welsh steam coal broken down into smaller peices
@@User76575 What size of coal do you recommend for a 1 inch Minnie traction engine?
Do you find the Russian standard steam coal is good?
@@User76575 do you ever use housecoal or other types?
Matt Seymour house coal should work fine just might not burn as hot
For sale?
Nope
@@DLRTV pooooooooo yes it is s for sale!
@@1-8-6-8 Still nope.
Runs rather smoothly!
Speedy little engine
Is it 3. 5 scale?
nice work that.
I’m building a crane myself, so I appreciate the work in that :o)
Very informative and very helpful. That is a very handsome angine you have.
Are you still working on this project?
It is being worked on, just very slowly
Oh they look so good!
Lovely engine. Runs well and well painted. What coal do you use etc?
Hope it works. Will flush the pump and pipework out. But surely is same difference as it pumping through normally?
I have a water bottle sprayer and pipe will that work?
That will do nicely
Thanks will try that. That's a good idea. May try that
Thanks will try. How do you suggest I do that?
A syringe with flexible pipe should do it. May I suggest joining a local Model Engineering group. There will probably be someone who owns a MInnie who will be more help than I can.
@@DLRTV thanks for the advice will try that. So basically just flush out the pipes with the syringe and pipe
Thanks for the info. How do I go about cleaning the dirt out the pipes and pump etc?
usually just pushing some water through the pipes clears things
My Minnie has started to boil the water in the tender and it overflows out of it with force. Why is it doing this?
The check valve has started feeding back, this is usualy because a bit of dirt has become trapped under the ball.
@@DLRTV Thanks for the advice, how do i get the dirt out and get the pump to fill the boiler again?
It’s good to see a model roller instead of a traction engine. Thanks for posting.
Thats got some impressive power
I
Nice! good choice of ratio, not too quick.
I see yours has a hand water pump, have the minnies got them and where?
As far as I know they don't have one fitted as standard
So basically have the little lever screwed right up for a bit then screw it down to allow water into the boiler?
How do you prime the mechanical water pump?
Leave the bypass open when you start the engine running to let it clear the air and suck water in, after that it should be fine.
Thanks for that, i might have better luck next time when steam it then as wasn't filling with water
Ok thanks for that, mine is a lever and when you turn it goes up to a point then stops then screws down. Which way is it to let water in the boiler?
All the way down.
Thanks for the info. The mechanical water pump doesn't seem to be filling the boiler up very well. How can I improve the pumping and is it worth installing a hand water pump?
Thanks for the advice, i have a minnie traction engine, is it the same for this? How do i set the lever fully open?
It is the same but I'm not sure where the valve is on a Minnie. On my engine one turn is fully open but yours will be different.
