Reasons why you should NOT buy an 80 Series Toyota Land Cruiser
zhlédnutí 10KPřed 8 měsíci
Long video so hang tight. Here are some of my thoughts since having owned my Toyota Land Cruiser for ~7 years now. I’m not sponsored nor Instagram famous so all the things done to my vehicle have been by me except for the steering components (just because I was going to need an alignment anyways). So there’s been lots of money invested and time spent getting the 80 series to where I want it to ...

Time for something new: Toyota Tacoma

After about 2 years of ownership, time has come to sell the taco. This hurts me to say because of how much I love this car. I mean it does it all, 0 issues, very capable, comfortable, good looking and has enough creature comforts to make life easy. But sometimes life calls for a change. I might regret this one but hey, we’ll see what happens. #toyota #tacoma #truck #offroad #TRD #2ndgentacoma #...

Hi I am planning to buy a 1996 V6 80 series Petrol land cruiser, are the parts easily available in Queensland
@@QUEENSLANDER4x4 I’m not sure, I’m not from Queensland. Assuming Land Cruisers are usually available everywhere you should have no issues, just know it might be expensive
Your tittle is you. The vehicle looks look like you treated very well. Your points seem obvious with an older vehicle. Fix it up
Do you want to sell it?
@@mikecatalano8681 no but money talks
This car will outlast a new VW/BMW/Benz/Audi by 200,000 miles.
I own one just needs new wheel bearings to reliable to get rid of paid 550 dollars
?
Oh dear, brother, you’re really disappointing. The 80 series is great, not all owners can handle it. Best that you go buy a brand new Nissan x-trail
Why not buy a second hand chinese made suv in china
I have Lc 80 and Lc100 they both reliable vehicles parts are available seldom needs to be repaired.
Total BS. I have an 1HDFT 1995 turbo diesel with 498K on the clock. Engine is in excellent condition, as it the rest of the vehicle. This guy is like most like most drivers in America who just drive there vehicle to death, instead of maintaining them. If he had rubbed 'baby oil' on his dash, it would crack. So as steering wheel and shifter. I looks like he has not looked after the interior at all, it looks like a 'dump'. His engine bay is a complete mess. Make sure the engine has clean oil and clean air and it will last for every. I have friends that are driving these vehicles in NZ and Australia with over 1 million kilometres on them. As for being slow, mine has 175hp from standard, and now has 300HP at the back wheels. This guys is an IDIOT.
Bought a nearly new '87 DX in '88. If I was selling it, beater, if I was attempting to buy it back a classic, They succumbed to rust issues in my area, I had mine nearly 10 years. Needed a Rack, water pump & valve guides at the time. 138K will go down as my favorite car.
@@CSmith-gb1sl why your favorite?
@@Yotaadventures The vehicle I put the most miles on, relatively simple to work on, low maintenance, competent in traffic, good visibility. It had it's Achilles heels though, I never regretted my purchase.
im about to buy a very similar 1991 camry. i'm stoked. hopefully there are no problems lolol. starts right up tho
im about to buy a 91 camry tomorrow!
Good score
A classic beater
It needs a good rebuild, and she'll be good for another 30 years. Nothing abnormal about that...also, any modern 4x4 wouldn't last half that long
Very nice ride! I love my HDJ81….no AC at the moment 😢. You might want to check your differential breathers if you go through deep muddy water. They can become clogged if still OEM and no lengthened breather tubes. Thank you for posting!
I’ll take a look at that. Thank you!
Classic I miss mine
It's slower because there is no resistance.
Being a new mechanic, I like old cars and when I own a car, I just want a car that'll take me to places, be reliable, look classy, cheap to own, and comfortable. An old Camry fits the bill real well. All I'd do would be modernize the interior with a new radio that doesn't stand out and new speakers. I just want an easy to own car that's comfortable. Idc about speed, I'd rather cruise with a comfortable car.
I’m a new mechanic too and I adore older toyotas, my only advice for buying an old car is don’t overlook the cosmetic condition!!!!! Especially paint!!!! Because if you really love your car, having a peeling clearcoat, rust spots/bubbling paint could really get to you after a while. And cosmetic repair takes a lot of time and dedication to learn…and for paint, indoor garage, respirator, paint booth, etc etc to get a factory like finish. And of course, if you get paint done at a shop, it’s more often than not more than the value of the car. Good luck out there
Me again how much money for the car
Love the car.Interior is in good condition and the blue is a great colour.Would be great with a paint job and some decent wheels.Good car for free.
I drive 97 LC. I bought it over 24 yrs back and no regrets. 230K miles and still going strong. Yes it’s getting old and some plastic &!rubber has become brittle and falling off. Paint has worn off. Engine and transmission is still good. I still take it on a 8 hr drive w/o any issues. I went through many cars in these 24 years, but Landy is still with me and as dependable as when I bought it.
Woohoo...forget a lease! Do this full time, save some dough to buy a house. Here is what I did to my Wolf Pup 17JG: 1. Apply elastomeric (Ames) to the roof. 2. 800 watts on the roof with 400 ah of Lithium batteries 3. Install a 12v AC, solar to what truckers use. Kinda cool, out in 100 degree weather, no problem even at night. I also ordered 5mm double reflective foam insulation. What about theatre seats? Replace the bench/sofa? Happy trailes!!
Where’s the fridge ?
Right underneath the sink, sorry that I forgot to mention it
Happy travels! I had a Jayco and loved it. It was very well built. I suggest you replace the bottom bunk mattress with a better one if you will be traveling and staying in it a lot. The mattresses that come with campers are uncomfortable and get old after a while. My grands even complained about them.
Good luck on your journey. I would replace the mattress for comfort.
I have a 1997 Lexus LX 450 and I’m happy with it. It has 210,000 miles and is still running great. I’m keeping it.
Recording and fixing. What a beast, doing this later today. Thanks for the vid!!
Nice little rig to get started on and gain experience. As for fuel, most major retailers of gas offer discounts on gas if you sign up on their app. Hope you enjoy your travels of discovery awaiting you. Stay safe.
Good to know, I appreciate that input!
Your ac will work on all settings if you change the resistor that goes to the blower motor. I have the same year, color, and it’s an LE.
Great to know! I’ll have to take a peak at that
@@Yotaadventures the part is cheap. You’ll have to remove the glove compartment to get to the blower motor assembly but after that it’s rather easy install. My a/c works but has no Freon. I’m trying to get that taken care of. Good luck.
@@PatrickMersinger my ac works but not during idle, I’m going to need Freon too I think. Thank you, sounds pretty straightforward
@@Yotaadventures keep us posted, I’ll let you know if I get my a/c fixed. Probably going tomorrow.
What did you do to get new heater hoses?
5/8 bulk heater hose (I believe)
Classic :)
I miss my 97 LX450. Was triple locked and drove like a dream. But 80 series prices now are insane.
Field hack. If you don't have something like a Shure MV88 with a Rycote Windjammer on you, steal a fuzzy sock from your girlfriend and place it over the mic end of the phone or camera. That'll reduce wind noise 👍
Didn’t realize this till I uploaded haha. It was a one time go, thanks Douglas! Will do next time!
I professionally restore land cruisers for a living doing. 3-4 engines a week. These are service trucks as in you preform services so you don’t have to replace parts. I love them but you have to have the budget for it
Do you want to sell it? What is your asking price?
Yeh, brother, thats just not your type of car. Get Toyota Prius, those are much cheaper to drive.
What is the sterio called what kind of Ken wood?
Lol
I wouldn’t buy it because it’s a money pit and really takes a certain love that most people don’t have for classic trucks. They are slow Not that comfortable Very inefficient Things will break as you start to drive it. Most are 30 years old at this point Otherwise still one of the coolest and best trucks I’ve owned Edit - why is there so much hate in the comments? Dudes just explaining his experience
this guy doesnt know what hes talking about
How long have owned a LC? He has 7 yrs ownership
Bro there's a reason it was sold to you for $3,600. It's a fixer upper.
It’s still a screaming good buy.
Dude you paid stuff all for it. If you expect a new car condition you should have bought a new car but you’re cheaper than the car. Stop whining and fix it up and you will have a great truck and not be over budget. This is in no way a “warning don’t buy “
A true classic. Can’t go wrong with an older Toyota.
Except rust.
How did the tool perform against that crank bolt?
Perfect actually. Unbolted right away with the crank bolt socket (the bigger and beefier impact socket) although I think it would have done it with a normal impact
I had that exact car in college.. drove over Snoqualmie Pass many many times in the snow and weather. Great car 🤙🏼
I have a '91 DX. The jetson-era seatbelts are the bomb and the most entertaining for pre-teens. The fishbowl visibility is the best driver feature.
