Is it fair to say that trade is mostly a late-game mechanic? Usually when I see trade guides, it's people showing off a massive empire, or at least one big enough to have 5+ merchants and tons of light ships. Early in the game, when you just have the two starting merchants and a few light ships, it seems like trade just doesn't amount to much no matter what you do. Is that right?
You don't make much in comparison to late game, but you still make money compared to your overall expenses. The reason why it seems so low is the amount of goods that are produced is lower early game. Prices rise for goods throughout the game. And finally more goods actually flow to Europe towards the end of the game. But trade can be useful even early game depending on the nation. Netherlands, England, France, Venice etc can all make substantial money off of trade due to their trade nodes by pulling from feeder nodes like Lubeck or Constantinople.
Thanks, very in depth and this is the first time I heard an explanation of EU4 battle mechanics that actually made sense to me.
To remove the danish nobles privilage you can just give out monopoly and then do a noble diet with the privilage. If you want to, you can even do both by selling land.
Do a new Granada guide
Alright
@@ViktorVildras could you do one for Byzantium too? I followed your last guide for Granada with a bit of tweaks and it was actually pretty chill, but Byzantium man, it's breaking me
@viniciusyugulis7278 ive been holding off on byzantium just because its gonna take a long time. New job that is letting me, hopefull, go remote will make that a bit easier soon though.
i really like to use the Age of Discovery transfer subject ability to steal Aragon and Naples(2 wars, one for each) from Castile and never let Spain form. both set you up very nicely with subjects that feed into forming Spain and Italy PUs, as the Angevins. And it's manageable AE wise. even got to become emperor of HRE by staying catholic. Didn't know you can go through the missions to get Colonial Ventures and still go Angevins route. will be interesting to see if PDX consider it a bug or "feature".
I mean, they have patched things I have made videos on before, so expecting it to be patched. That said, we are coming to the end of the line for EU4. So they may just not.
@@ViktorVildras okay so. as of 1.37. Colonial Ventures "greed" can still be done like in the video. Now, for my own shenanigans... Aragon is no longer "stealable". it's too big. or gets to big from AI placing Holy Orders everywhere. Soonest i've seen the Iberian wedding event fire this patch is 1466. and it costs 136% warscore to transfer them at that point. So that's a bit of a shame guess going for Sweden might be my new "move".. if they don't get independence by then. Taking Sweden and 1 province/half of iceland is doable in one war.
ooh, such a pretty purple map colour! you should play another purple nation next (or a tag that becomes purple), it doesnt matter which that is!
Naples would be cool
Why not just take France Spain and Germany while conquering the new world and India and since there is no Spain and France just take Italy
Viktor plz made a guide for Avaria
Alright. I think mine is probably out of date seeing how it is 2 years old.
The best of both worlds.
Huh. I thought you release Provence to get free core of Napoli, then honestly i just take the admin hit and core them rather than release them if Provence mission went unused. I only use vassal for ae and ws reduction from reconquest cb.
I don't know, Villeinage does make you lose ducats but I feel like it's better to sacrifice a few ducats for a few years than +3 MP If you get the +5 crownland parliament act then great, but if I don't I still give the privileges regardless
The reason why I focus it is to progress down the mission tree you need to revoke villianage. While it can be done even with granting the privileges early, you don't need to worry about timing seizing land if you just wait for a bit. You also tank your tax income granting out the crown land, as you both loose tax efficiency but you also spike autonomy. I just take the extra income and hire advisors instead, then take the privileges later. Granted, I know I have insane luck with heirs, so maybe your way is better if you consistently get heirs who's chief skill is drooling.
To be fair, @@ViktorVildras, England has some insane scripted heirs.
England and Mamluks are my favorite nations in this game
Don't get me wrong, I like both, but I do love me some minor gameplay. Doing a pirate game or Lubeck etc is far more entertaining to me personally.
@@ViktorVildras Lubeck always end up dominating North Germany in my games for some reason
@@ViktorVildras I dislike most majors except England and Mamluks, idk they feel so unique and cool to play as, while other like Poland, France and Ottomans are just a souless blobfest, or Castille/Portugal a boring generic colonizer
@@ViktorVildrasTernate and Tidore are great OPMs for a chill colonization/conquest game. With Cloves, they're hardly minor.
Without any dlc What republic is the best to form Italy/rome? (Why a republic is so I can have someone re-elected till I get someone with max stats to become a king/dictator. Rather than start with a sub par ruler that can't improve)
I prefer Florence, but their republic type sucks. Venice is stronger start, but Florence has great development cost reductions.
2:45 Can you explain a bit about your decision to do Maine? I forgot who said this but they suggested you sell Maine to Provence so Maine event doesn’t fire and then you can declare on France at time of choosing (say 10 favors with Castile and Savoy). Maine owned by your vassal doesn’t prevent the event Lastly is there a good reason to not be catholic considering outside of minor colony cath is by far the best Christian group
By handing it over to a scutaged vassal they can't occupy it. France's wargoal will be to occupy Maine, but Maine isn't in the war so it can't be occupied. None of my provinces can be, so my war exhaustion won't spike while dealing with disasters.
@@ViktorVildras yeh I get the vassals but why not sell Maine so you can declare whenever instead of hoping for a late Treaty of Maine to fire
@@Speedster___you can only PU France during hundred years war if you choose British path
@@viniciusyugulis7278 I’m stupid. I thought you could take the mission later before declaring your oath. Thanks
I would love a Mamluk guide where you form Egypt early and westernize
Watch Quarbit
Ireland PU will give you a permanent +1 Diplo relation, the PU is objectively the better option
And that is cancelled out by having the PU. So bo, it may be subjectively better but objectively it doesn't matter much. Just easier to not bother with it.
@@ViktorVildras It sticks even after integrating them
@viniciusyugulis7278 must have misread it then.
Shame about Ireland in the GB path. I waited a few hundred years to integrate Ireland in my Angevin run and, thanks to my scripted 5/5/5 Henry and others like him, every last province in Ireland was like 30 dev without me clicking on it once. Midnight.
Enjoy ZWI3R-J2KZW-ZQMEA for the base game 73CD5-AAAZH-HZF9Y for Dr. Strange
Why not try to PU Spain?
You can. Most may not have the option or opportunity to and to show the best option generally available I don't pursue PUs outside of the mission tree unless it is extremely common (ie Burgundy).
Perfect content to watch at midnight.
You could have annexed cebu first, then give a "high five" on the natives in those 2 inhabitated privinces next to you. You will then complete a mission that will give you these 2 provinces for free.
If you can pull a Mamluk or Tunisian alliance, it makes Ottoman War I easier. They will prioritize your allies and travel by land. When your ally peaces out, take what land you have secured.
I love that for some reason CZcams classifies this as the first Europe Universalis. Edit: Jurassic

Can you consider a guide for one of the hordes preferably Oirat or Juanzhou (into Monarchy) Hungary/Lith would also be cool Also why Castile over Aragon? Also sheesh 16:05 chunk France
Just wait a bit on Hungary. Lithuania I will certainly consider. If you mean why allying Castile it is because Aragon usually will be taken in a PU, and that can happen mid-ar and it auto-peaces Aragon out. Leaving you without an ally you may have been relying on. And yes, France tends to become a chonker. As for the hordes, I believe I have but I will take a look given they were for older patches.
@@ViktorVildras great! In all my campaigns I never seen France take British isles which is wierd. I didn’t think Aragon got Iberian Wedding before like circa 1475 so for first few wars would think they’d be a better ally
@Speedster___ its just whenever they have a regency, which usually will take a decade, but its completely random.
@@ViktorVildras ah thanks
Castile over Aragon because Aragon has land you want to take for yourself

Bruh never use the best one Trade league getting rich
True, I dislike the playstyle so maybe I let my bias interfere. Maybe I will redo it with more trade league and see if it is improved at all. Doubtful, but always a possibility.
@@ViktorVildras I love the gameplay still.. abusing day 1 trade league one provinces like ragusa to be in the league or any rich province to give you +20 income from day 1
the swiss merc militarization mechanic can be accessed by any nation through government reforms! (i'm not sure if it's limited to monarchies but that's all i tried.)

Carthage playthrough?
@@ViktorVildras yes
@@FluffyYeen05 I don't remember saying I would, but I can. Are you looking for a playthrough or a guide?
No idea whos coming up with the idea that mercenaries loose their strength in the later stages of the game-they only get more expensive. I do wanna add tho that Mercenary Discipline, like all Discipline modifiers that are not global (think special units) sadly do not increase the military tactics of that unit. I do wish they finally fix that.
I know, would be nice. But, alas, spaghetti code.
And most people think that they aren't worth it because they are more expensive. Like cavalry, my main question is if their use makes winning more likely. If yes, I recommend them even if it costs more, as winning wars faster generally means more money long term.
@@ViktorVildras My main problem with mercenaries, they don't really scale well. They are capped by dev and you can't split them. And worst of all, mercenaries company got their tech level from country of origin and you are limited with how many you got. I still use them because I find them strong, cheaper with more manpower than normal unit. (If you play mercenary idea/country with bonus). To my multiplayer non-moded game as Swiss, it gaves me a strong advantage in early/mid game. Not so much after (and it was cool to condotiere 100k troop)
@christian861 yes. But just linking them with another mercenary company or with regulars to fill ojt the line is an easy solution. I don't think they should be your entire army, or even all of your infantry, but having them for your firs wave front line is very, very helpful. The biggest downside is you can't avoid cavalry after tech 20, when cavalry heavily drop off. But if I am leaning into mercenaries that hard its usually a 15-25% discipline shift, so its still worth it.
@@ViktorVildras I agree. it's just a strange feeling to maximise your mercenaries and then have to supplement them with a regular army that won't benefit from the militarization of the special government t5 of mercenaries and other bonuses. That was my feeling as Switzerland.
Wonderful reflexion alway I learn somthing new with you more than 2000 h. of EU 4 Included
Being a mercenery was an only escape from being a villein. btw how strong would be a Denmark -> two sicily -> swiss patch. you literally hire a spacemarine group
I think we could just call them Ultramarines at that point. I think Games Workshop would appreciate it lol.
Very nice! I never realised that. It makes me regret I just chose the centralisation path in my current byzantine run. Decentralisation has mercenary bonuses.. Oh and a key for Villeins would be appreciated 😅

Denmark has nice mercenary missions.. but i read somewhere tha mercenary discipline was bugged and it only increased damage dealt but not damage taken? ( That it even was intended to be only damage dealt)
iirc they wrote in one the latest patches that this bug has been fixed ( didnt test that, but to me it looks fixed )
