Bought my TJ brand new in 1999. Still driving it to this day… Ironically, I’ve had every one of these issues except rust. Once they all got fixed, it ran like a top, and still does to this day. Turns 25 years old this month! 🤙

Great find and glad you got it knowing how much you appreciate it and will take care of it. I will never sell my '89 MJ. I am the original owner, have had it painted twice but no major problems with the 4.0, 271k and going strong, fortunately i have the AX 15. Look forward to more videos!

Having to put a little pressure on the gear lever when in reverse means the gear itself is worn not the syncros. This will eventually lead to gear pop outs.

The "burp tank", aka coolant overflow, were notorious for cracking, fixed in later years.

I’m an original owner of a 1997 “spec-ordered” TJ Sport.she now has a tad over 151k on the clock. I’ve had the frame recapped, and both front fenders and windshield frame replaced. The Jeep has been with my family since 1997-all my kids learned to drive “stick” on her….and she’s been on adventures from the Outer Banks to the White Mountains of NH. I have a new Tacoma, a classic Porsche…the wife’s Subaru….but I typically prefer to drive the Jeep! Im giving serious consideration of a complete “frame off” restoration! I want to update the seats and electronics and lights and….etc! We will see, I guess. Great video…thank you.

I saw that you removed your rear seats in one of your posts. I'm trying to take mine out, but they're stuck. Can you assist? I'm planning to mod the old stock seats with new vinyl ones. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hey buddy - what's the under door "kick plates" that you have on your jeep. Most notably seen around 2:50. They're black and have a patterned embossed plate shape to them. Rocker guards search with google gets me close. But I like what you have on yours. PS - 2006 TJ (LJ) Unlimited.

First, if at all possible get a 2 door jeep He's right about a soft top especially for a 2 door. Get a fabric top because it's a lot quieter than the vinyl one

looks like a great Comanche. I've had my current one for 4ish years now and I love it. bought mine for about the same price but with a 97+ XJ engine/interior swap. best truck I've ever owned you're going to love it!

my tj had rust inside frame cleaned it out and sprayed using a bug sprayer with linseed oil thinned a bit with paint thinner it dries to a protective layer and drilled drain holes in the low spots and plugged factory holes

Have you tried their 2 in 1 rust reformer? When I was going to buy these two items I saw they have a two-in-one. Thx

Great video,, I've watched tons of these videos and this one is the best by far. I just got a 2018 JK out of NY with a little surface subframe rust. Lucky the jeep was garaged and only driven 3000 miles a year. Now she's in dry southern Utah shouldn't be any rust issues especially doing what you just showed on the video to my Jeep. Thx

Haha what a clown. Why wouldn't you adjust your valves instead of putting a bunch of shit fluid additives. And you definitely don't want to run a engine with out a timing belt unless you want bent valves. Also the jeep has a timing chain. This guy is probably a California transplant. He doesn't know shit about a jeep lol.

It’s a serpentine belt not a timing belt. The 4.0 liter uses a timing chain.

Very nice MJ, love your sport truck. I had an 88 SporTruck I drove home to PA from Los Angeles, super clean. Currently I have a 90 Comanche Eliminator, 4.0L, AX-15 transmission, 4x4, AC, rear sliding window, vent windows, and I've added cruise. I totally would have purchased the truck you have if it had come up in my search. Enjoy yours! For the mileage, the price is right in line with what is expected. Mine was $9800 with 251k miles, awesome condition but needing the typical tune ups.

i want a hardtop i have a soft and bikini top love them but wish i had a hardtop for trips with the wife but dang there expensive

I added heated seats, re-upholstered it with marine vinyl for durability from the elements, re-carpeted with water-resistant carpet that easily pulls out for cleaning and installed ARB steel Bull Bumpers. I adore my 2006 JEEP Wrangler LJ.

I have an '06 LJ that is mostly stock fitted. I did install ARB Bull Bumpers coz I mainly use my Jeep for rescue work in the North Carolina countryside. I removed the spare tire AND the backseat which improved my mileage to 18 mpg. Sometimes I think about upgrading to a newer Jeep but I really do need that 4.0, 6 Inline engine. I've amazed people with what I can "pull" out of hazardous situations with my Jeep.

04 TJ RHD here, check engine light has been on for most of its life. 219,000 miles and second automatic trans, i need a couple more TJ's to balance out my driveway.

to be honest my soft top is a pain in the ass to get on also. i’ve come to find out if it’s hotter outside it’s easier to get on. one time i waited till it was upper 50’s lower 60’s and i liked to never got it on. major pain. But it sure does feel nice with it off lol

tolerances in my TJ is too loose to run synth. Pisses it out on driveway. Went back to oil based snd most of that stopped.

I love my 2004 TJ, but this thing has been nothing but trouble with the crappy electronics they used. I'd love to pull the engine, trans and transfer case and all the wiring and install a AMC 304 cu. In. Engine and 4 spd manual transmission with a Rubicon transfer case. The Jeep I really wanted is a CJ7 with the described drive train I'd swap into the TJ, full doors with crank windows and hardtop. Dana 44's front and rear with 4:56 gears and Detroit Lockers and chrome moly axles. 33 or 35" tires are all I've needed for years and I've owned several Jeeps that went off road a lot. Suspension seats and if possible, A/C. The problem is the cost. I've contemplated buying everything I'd need to build a completely new Jeep. New EVERYTHING ! No computers of any kind except the one used with the Holley Throttle body injection system. And yes, it would have the leaf spring suspension. But, that is my dream Jeep and will probably never happen for me.

I think you should drill a port hole through the back of the cab and the bed, and throw a subwoofer box in the bed disguised as a tool box. Then it would be PERFECT! Two 12's, perhaps?

Excellent looking comanche! Definitely remove the floor mat and check underneath for rust. Patch it and coat it and she should last for a few more decades! That's what I did to mine :D
