While I think there are some really valid points here it misses out a huge factor. In the early 2000s action/extreme sports were in the forefront of popular culture. The games of the genre 20 years ago were designed to be mass appeal and were created by major game studios. With the exception of riders republic, every notable extreme sports game of recent is an indie title (Shredders/Skater XL/Session/BMX Streets) and much more sim than arcade. The reason being as the target audience is actual participants of that sport who value realism over everything else. You aren't describing how to create a 'better' snowboarding game but how to make an enjoyable snowboarding game for non-snowboarders. I think one of the best examples of creativity within the extreme sports genres of recent years is Olli Olli world. It just feels great, fluid gameplay, great levels and fun characters. There is a space for a snowboarding game like this for sure.

hehe. nyxing. anyway yeah Laika is an easy all time favorite of mine despite being super recent, the full game meshes everything together just as well as the demo if not dramatically better - and the story is *so* well-done, start to finish, and the sidequests are so incredibly well-written as well. it's not a flawless game - looking at you, boss fights - but start to finish, it's yet another testament to how formulaic success is lame and synthesis from various influences to support vital central themes is a path to a truly great game.

Many of us have played the game so many times the experience has been streamlined. Hemwick for me is something that needs to be done quick and early to get the workshop tool. My first playthrough was another story entirely. Then, I had no clue what insight was and hadn't spent any of it and having those things spawn in hemwick, at night, and kicking my butt escalated the entire experience. Very much a horror game then! Honestly suprised you didn't mention the insight part.

Visually and themetically this is one of my favorite areas in the game, but ut just felt increadibly short and easy to me. I know it's possible to get there much earlier but most players will most likely enter it after beating the BSB or even Vicar Amelia and at tjat point it's not challengin anymore. Also the boss is kinda part of the identity of any area imo. It's the final part and a "reward" in a way. While the idea behind the witch is kinda cool it unlimetly is a pretty lame boss after the first attempt.

Loved the video. Bloodborne will always have a special place in my heart, it was my very first FromSoft game. I didn't know what to expect (except for it being hard), and was really intrigued after the intro cut scene, blown away by atmosphere and aesthetic when entering Central Yharnam,..and then completely lost on what to do or where to go. Loved the fast paced combat, the feeling of accomplishment after trying a boss for dozens of times, the twist in the story halfway through, some of the bosses are really memorable (Father Gascoine, Martyr Logarius,... and all of the bosses from the Addon). I just finished my first Dark Souls play through and liked it quite a bit, some of the later areas do feel like a chore and aren't all that much fun. I really liked Dark Souls 3 though, some of the best bosses in all of the FromSoft games and a bit more streamlined and accessible than the original Dark Souls. I'd certainly like to see your take on Dark Souls 3!
