Great video! I don't understand one thing: for a gaming purpose, if the character has a lot of objects such yours (body, armament, weapon and so on), it's suggested to merge all the things in Zbrush and then retopo as a single mesh in Maya, or retopo one by one?
I was so frustrated with finding the right tutorial for this process. I would easily pay for a good step by step tutorial. Thanks to you i can do it. Thank you really much. I am a little intimated by the texturing too. I go to a private school but no one could help me with the hair really.

I'm trying to follow your dynamic subdiv method, but when I merge again after I split groups, I cannot move it separately with move topological brush, it basically revert back to its original state . did I miss something?
Double check that the object is a separate piece of topology (no connections) that's how the move topoogical works. If you're still having issues, come over to our Discord and we can help you out further bit.ly/3DM_Discord

I couldn't make out the words... however, you are trying to explain the inconsistency of using z spheres where they do not need to be used... all that is needed from this tool is to gain the overall proportions and mass of the character and without the rig and its binding to the grid, be able to set the desired pose... to look at it, twist it, change it as many times as you want and start sculpting, gaining real weight and proportions of body parts ... it is very strange to hear this from someone who called himself a "lead"... 0:55 your words contradict what you show on the screen as "proof" ... the person was almost immediately able to set the desired proportions of the limbs in length relative to each other. in this context, it is also important to see the process itself - I am sure that it was faster and easier than taking shape with brushes...
It's pretty good for getting a pose and initial structure. Similar to a wireframe in traditional sculpting.

Great video! Like others, I'm starting my journey in character modeling. I followed your base mesh video, and I was wondering if I should be sculpting the body parts (arm, torso, etc) before merging all my pieces as you did in your base merge video.

This is Maya. You can use it for arch. But 3DsMax is used for that mainly.

Not for games. Triangles are used often. Infact, quads don't exist in engines. Everything gets turned into Tris.

You missed one very important feature, which I think is new. If you hover over the top edge of pureref window, there's a pin button. If you click on it, there's an option to show pureref windows on top of any selected window only. So if're working in zbrush for example, you can set up pureref to only show on top of zb window.

The highly detailed hand model is used as a reference to create custom low-poly polygons for the game. Low poly models are used in games because they require fewer resources to render, which ensures better performance and faster load times. These models simplify complex details, making the game run smoothly on various hardware while still appearing visually appealing, thanks to techniques like texture mapping and normal mapping, which add detail without increasing polygon count.

Hello, would you do this same method for dreadlocks on a game ready model? I'm not sure how to go about fixing flat planes so they look like round bunched up hair strands. I've tried the discord server with no luck unfortunately.
Making dreadlocks for a game model is pretty tough. You'd use cross-hatched geometry and mix in some floating planes to create the look of round, bundled hair strands. This gives it volume without using too many polygons. The final look will also rely a lot on shaders, using normal and opacity maps to make the hair texture and depth pop.

@@3dmutiny I’m an adult game dev lol so I make visual novels using a combination of Daz3D, Blender, and Renpy. So yeah nothing crazy but I am published on steam and have a relatively good audience now so I’m taking the extra steps necessary to better my work and continue gaining as much knowledge as possible since I make my own skins and morphs.

So you can experience workshops in any format you like. Some people just enjoy watching the VODs. So lots of options. Apart from that it's a friendly and supportive community!

You dont need to pay for 2.0 actually. It is still free, you can just choose the custom amount and write 0 there.
its great that they added gif support. before that i had to use PowerPoint for motion based ideas but the performance was always terrible if you added more than like 2 gifs
