511 Wingman Patrol Bag Review - The Perfect Overlanding Go Bag?
I love klein tools! I have the small pocket precision screwdriver, that i use for EVERYTHING, and the bigger 15 n 1 ratcheting screwdriver. I didn't know there was one that was both! Im gonna order it up today.
Would you prefer 2 200 watt panels or just 1 400 hundred watt panel? I have 2 200 watt panels and want to add more. I am considering the 400 watt panel so this way I have just 1 panel to deal with than 2.
If you have the room to store and transport the larger panel it might make an easier setup. But I probably would opt for the smaller panels sine I man not need that much power each day. Kinda depends on your needs and how much storage space you have.
Sir: Was that a 21 or 26 Liter GR1?? Thank you.
It's the smaller version - 21 Liter - wanted to not carry a bunch of stuff and also be able to lock up in my drawer system if I wanted.
@@sdrover Thank you, Sir.
How does it compare to the light ranger ?
Really two different products other than being camp lights - depends on your needs. I wanted something smaller and packable rather than a large stand - you can't go wrong either way.
Awesome video man
Appreciate it! Wished I had done it years ago, such an improvement.
Are the panels weather resistant or can it survive use in light sprinkles?
According to Acker’s product page: IP67 Waterproof: The solar panel's IP67 waterproof protection allows it to withstand even the harshest weather and your adventurous lifestyle.
you should have done a input solar review on how much watts your able to get with those panels
Rarely the full of 400 (each panel is 200 watts). I’m usually using them in fall and winter in the Desert so sun is not optimal.
Great idea for a pantry 😊
Yes, really easy to transport between the LR4 and the kitchen to pack up - thanks for the comment!
Wow that is so beautiful. Just found the channel and its fantastic. Inspiring to get out here in California. Keep it up!
Very well done. Subscribed. This is how I prefer to camp. Getting ready to order the Nemo lx now. Thank you for being a responsible outdoorsman and sharing your knowledge.
Thank you I appreciate you subscribing!
isn't it 1/4" & 3/8" and not 1/4" & 3/4" ?
Ugh, yes of course your correct, thanks for catching!
I just bought the precision screw driver set, I had no idea they had it with a ratchet and socket combo. Kicking my self!
I'm really liking the Modboxes.
The problem I have is that the seat depth is too short for me, it makes a pressure point on my thighs. I am 6ft tall 235lbs.
When ever I purchase a camp chair I try to buy from somewhere I can actually sit in the chair to make sure it's a fit! You might check out the FrontRunners chair or what REI has available.
Can you just remove the middle seat in the second row and have captain's chairs? Is that possible?
The rear seat was two parts, so you could remove one of them, one was more narrow and one wider.
@@sdrover Thank you very much. We have a 2008 Toyota Sequoia right now with captain's chairs in the back that the kids love. I was thinking I could do tha same thing in the LR4, as it looked like the seats were in three sections. Lastly, do you have a good Land Rover mechanic recommendation in North County San Diego? We're in the San Marcos/Escondido area.
I have used Lavon Dwyer who is now at Encinitas Foreign and Domestic - he is the service manager and my mechanic is Edger. They have done all the work and service on my 3 Land Rovers and I trust them - both of them worked for Bob Smith for many years. The work number is 760-632-0830 - make sure to tell them I said hello!
@@sdrover Thank you very much, Jeffrey. Much appreciated!
Lag bolts and a drill!!!!!! You'll never go back to pounding those stakes in ever again.
It’s certainly faster but make sure you have plenty of battery power for your impact. I had an awful time getting them out one trip.
Great video Jeffrey!
Thank you, I love your channel!
I like that light Jeff.
So far I’m liking it to!
what is the ground mat you use with yours?
It’s a sand mat by CGear. I purchased on Amazon and it’s the 10x10 size. They are expensive but don’t hold any sand or dirt.
@@sdrover thanks!
If you're still out there in November, I'll keep an eye out for you when we do the adv moto rally. Drive safe and stay hydrated!
sounds like this place should be avoided.
I have what I'm sure is a stupid question for other viewers, Jeffrey. But I just picked up this very unit, and am at the beginning of my learning curve on it. I have not yet had an opportunity to try out the 200 and 400 watt Anker panels that I got with it, which I'm hoping to do as the weather gets better. Do I need to be purchasing rubber insulating lineman gloves to use when plugging the panels into the unit? Or is it designed to not have to worry about that sort of thing?
There has been discussion on regarding where you plug the 5 panels not being very well protected with some risk. I would be careful across crossing over connections but I wouldn’t worry about plugging into the back of the panels or the unit. Safety first is always a good idea, enjoy the unit I certainly have.
It is just like plugging in your charging cable to your phone. You will be fine. Just don't touch the 5 input part. I don't worry about it since it isn't easy to get shocked, unless you do it on purpose.
What were the drawbacks?
Cap is not secure, won’t stand up on its own without potential of tipping over, hole under cap very small, and too expensive for the quality of the product.
Hello Jeff, Thanks for sharing this video it's really helpful. I'm thinking of buying the LR4 V6 2015 is it good to buy if this SUV went through below replacements at 65K miles. Now it's at 98K miles I don't see much service done in the last 30K miles. Please advise Coolant bypass pipe/hose replaced Spark plug tubes/seals replaced Water pump gasket replaced Thermostat replaced Exhaust manifold gasket replaced Engine timing/front cover replaced Cylinder head gasket(s) replaced Engine oil filter adapter gasket replaced Valve cover gasket(s) replaced Fuel injection rail seals replaced Timing belt tensioner/idler replaced
I would really recommend finding a reliable Land Rover mechanic in your area and have them go through the rig thoroughly. Great news of the cross over pipes have been replaced. Are you able to speak to the shop that did the repairs to make sure the engine didn’t overheat since some of the repairs could point to that. Also regular oil changes are critical at between 4 and 5k miles, of they haven’t serviced regularly I would skip it. Good luck and have it looked at before buying. I just had a friend of mine that bought a similar age and mileage with a mechanics review and ended up with some expensive repairs.
@@sdrover This is really good info. Thanks for responding.
thanks for such a positive video, now I feel like I should dive mine with no fear and just keep money aside just in case.
That’s what I do, they are not inexpensive to keep on the road - figure it’s a lot less than buying a new one! Enjoy!
Hey that's me!!

@@sdroverthank you so much!
Is there a fast way to dry it if it got wet? Maybe a heater inside or something? I don’t have my own yard living in an apartment so I’m trying to think of how I could dry it if needed.
That’s the draw back with canvas and you don’t want to store damp or wet. I live in a challenging location with no yard but was able to drape and rotate on an outdoor table. With my version you can open it up really well to air out or lay out. I know lots of hunters use them in the Midwest but likely the have food stoves. Best of luck. I think the do offer a fly that may help.
@@sdroverthanks, getting the rain fly is a good idea plus it looks nice (putting an order in tomorrow). Best case is that it doesn’t rain but that’s wishful thinking in the northwest lol
Do you think a Chevy 350 can squeeze through.?
Few tight spots where you want some clearance but take it slow and you should be fine. The canyon dead ends so be sure to pick a wide spot to turn around.
@@sdrover thank you, I'll be careful
Is that bend oregon ? Idk why but it looks like China Hat road
Was in Big Bear in SoCal.
I have been camping in a flex-bow for a few years now. I have replaced my stakes with the Ground Grabba stakes. I replaced the awning poles with Green Elephant adjustable poles
I got the gen 3 starlink just before heading down the Baja peninsula. To stow and protect the system I got one of those $12 bins from Lowes and a $5 pillow from Walmart. This setup worked perfectly and protected the starlink dish, router, and power supply through pothole infested roads, and bumpy 4x4 trails. Ten thousand miles later and not a scratch.
Sounds like an affordable perfect solution. I’m jealous, Baja peninsula is certainly on my bucket list!
Do you know how much the wheels weigh?
Tried several websites and cannot find any detailed specs. I would suggest reaching out to Lucky8 and asking them for weight. lucky8llc.com/products/black-compomotive-wheel?_pos=2&_sid=50c24d90d&_ss=r
What’s the model of just the pelican case? Would make one myself 🎉
According to their website it is a Pelican 1595 Air Case. I would caution you the case is not wide enough without the slant they built in. All the work appears to be done very professionally including the false floor but if you’re handy you certainly might save some money.
@@sdrover well if the women don’t find you handsome, they should find you handy! :) I already have a set up and turned my cables to cat5 to plug into the side wall of my truck camper ( wall port) ,and switched my power source to a 12v. ( to save wattage and not use inverter)Just thought that would make a nice case for transport and or same kinda idea. Thx so much!
Excellent job!
I have the snow park hammer and stakes and agree with you. They are camping tools made in heaven. The steaks are so strong they can go through rocks. Also the hammer has the weight at the head so it works for you rather than requiring you to swing harder as some campers do when they use a rubber mallet.
I found very little content in this video for reasons why anyone would want to purchase a LR4. He goes on about all the mods he has done. Not much about why you either want to or dont want for reasons to purchase the LR4.
I guess considering any brand purchase is does it make you happy? Land Rovers have a lot to love about them but are certainly not the most reliable or inexpensive to fix. If this bothers you then I would recommend a Toyota or Lexus. If you want a hard core rock crawler a Jeep and modern day Defender style of vehicle the INEOS. It’s great that we have many choices for a rig that excites us.
Thanks for providing the video. Are you using any lifts in your LR4? I just bought a 2016 LR4 and looking to something similar. Did you consider the BF Goodrich KO2's?
I don’t use and rods or lifts, just rely on the airbags. I don’t do much rock crawling and prefer to get the rig lower for highway use and garage access. Certainly the BF’s were high on my list of consideration. Thank you for stopping by!
@@sdroverOn the road, did you need to change your lift with the IIDTool using those rims and tires? Thanks. Appreciate the help. I am getting ready to pull the trigger.
Thanks for the review!
Bought one but haven't used it yet. Seems pretty cool. Looking forward to more of your videos.
I’m sure you’ll like it and thank you for viewing the channel, lots of good stuff on the way!
I’m having the hardest time getting the legs of the windscreen in to the slots. You think for the money the wind screen would fit. Thanks for telling me you had the same issues with it.
Good
You popped up on my CZcams feed and I found I like that setup! I have been contemplating that toilet system. How do you like the Nemo shower sprayer overall?
I’ve had much larger more complicated systems and appreciate how simple the Nemo Shower is. I normally only take on longer trip. I have a love hate relationship with the Cleanwaste toilet with the 3 legs and breaking it down, but love the disposal bags.
Great informative video! I have similar camping hacks for the bathroom in the backcountry! Thanks Jeffrey
Thanks for watching! My backpacking days was pretty simple, a small shovel, like these creature comforts nowadays!
U dont need a fancy toilet or shower use body wipes and use a small plastice bag to poop in and a pee boittle this will do just fine, I have used them many times!
That certainly works!
Thank you brother!
You’re welcome, thanks for stopping by!
That man came out of that tent like MacGyver... Edited to add: I happen to like MacGyver. That intro was a nice touch...
I’m in Point Loma and have a 2016 lr4 after my Disco2 gave up the ghost engine wise twice so it was time to change up. Would love to see your LR4 in person to give me ideas as I’m trying to sort the roof rack and winch ideas. Not sure if that’s possible. Ed
Sure just reach out to my email- jeff@jeffreydouglass.com.
How far are you able to go, at what point did they close things off for vehicles?
I think it’s been a long time since it went further, 2008, but rumor has it someone tried to winch off an old tree with some destructive results. The area beyond the closure is now wilderness area. My video ends at the first tight spot so it’s not too far from where it’s not passable by vehicles. There is a turn around at the end and I’ve seen some people camp overnight. Found this on an old Jeep forum. “Apparently people who causing issues in the canyon. Some people decided to setup a winch point to get past the end of the canyon. Then created a trail into the wilderness area linking canyons. Then someone cut down an very old tree for firewood. Because of action of the few all of us pay the price of closure.”
Love the video! I have a 2012 LR4 with 90K miles, and just recently changed the front air suspensions but other than that it has been good to me. I have the steelies from Lucky8 but planning to change to compomotive. I am also currently running with a 3” lift in the front and 2.5” in rear - did you have to change the lift rod as well or are you running stock?
I just run stock height - sometimes I wish I had more clearance for sure!
I can air up my 35 inch power wagon tires from 30 to 50 psi in 4 minutes and 26 seconds. Will fill all 4 tires up with only the 5 amp battery. My 20 inch wheels on my large car car will fill up from 0 to 40 in 3 minutes. LOve this compressor.
Sounds like I made a good choice! :-)
I have had one for a year. Using it ti air up Motor Home tires as well as my TJ. Probalbly used it 10 - 12 times. I have the larger battery it will easly fill 4 tires from 10psi to 30psi in a few minutes and still have enough battery remaining to do another.
Great to hear, I really didn’t expect to like it as much as I do! Thanks for your input.
I just out and I love it so easy to use definitely recommend it
