Only thing in Netflix adaptation that I hate is change of Ye Wenjie's story, they changed a lot and really rushed it. They should give more screen time for the most important person in human history :D Also BTW, Jack is not completely new character, he was Yun Tianming's friend in Death's End and he also had soft drink and chips business in the book and he left money to Yun which he used to buy a star. Yeah, Netflix added more to this character, but it's basically based on him

Enjoyed this comedy, Seinfeld has done a great job with the Wit in this movie!

I couldn’t finish the tencent version lol…the dialogue is so bad, the show moves in slow motion, half the characters act the exact same and look the same …the Netflix version, moves way faster, has much better dialogue and the characters are just more interesting. How they handle the dead scientist plot is so much better If you don’t want to be bored watch the Netflix version..it’s just a way better made show

I just finished the Chinese version. Thirty episodes. The best scifi series I have ever seen. I was totally engrossed in it. Very impressed. And Wang Ziwen = 🔥❤️.

This was so much more than an action movie, and to think the budget was only $12 million! Exceeded expectations 🙏

I preferred Fury Road, though this one was really good. My favourite is Mad Max 2. I missed Nicholas Hoults character - not in Furiosa and the new actor playing Imortan Joe didn't have the voice or screen presence.

Some actors returned from Fury Road: Rictus, the Organic Mechanic, The People Eater, and The Prime Imperator were played by the same actors, and Josh Helman played Slit in Fury Road and Scrotus in Furiosa.

I stopped watching the Netflix version after episode 5, after which I heard about the Chinese version. My god. The Chinese version obviously conveys the scientific ideas and metaphors better (in many cases, the Netflix version just skips them). I thought the nanowire scene was going to be worse due to censorship, but no, it was much more detailed and just as brutal (minus the children being killed, which I'm starting to think was just a cheap use of shock on the part of netflix, after all, those people are Adventists, why would they even HAVE children??). After watching the "locust" speech at the end of ep 30, I decided to compare the two versions- and it was laughable how weak the netflix one was). Also as a sidenote, it is Hilarious how Tencent is reusing soundtracks from other shows (Westworld and fucking SAW just off the top of my head), but to be frank, I don't even care, the tracks are fire wherever they are used. People tend to point out the fact that the Tencent one "doesnt show the brutality of the chinese revolution". I get that. But all the Netflix one does is show FIVE minutes of it in the opening scene... Wow, so brave of them, that's so groundbreaking (/s). They also like to say it's more "diverse".... the Chinese one was PLENTY diverse. The netflix one borders on Whitewashing, and I never thought I'd use that word in my life but there it is clear as day.

They are shitting all over the male characters. They called a black man,, a fucking child. The male characters of being treated like Simps!!!

I have listened (Audible) to the 'Three Body Problem' and started to listen to 'Dark Forest'. I watched the Tencent version because I have Prime Video and was very pleasantly surprised to find it. I wanted a reinforcement to see if I got everything the first time. I enjoyed the Tencent version. In either case I also suggest reading or listening to the books. A writer loves the characters he/she creates and tends to them. Any interpretation of those characters and the story can alter the experience.

I wonder how both of the shows are going to depict the trisolarans/san-ti because i just hope to god they wont use the redemption of time's description of them. I dont care what ppl say but that glorified published fanfiction is NOT canon.

I don't like the woke agenda that's so in your face with the Netflix version. That, and when the science is not discussed, the show appears more like a soap opera than anything else.

So the chinese version adaptation doesn't make any references to the cultural revolution, the main reason for the whole thing taking place, and also changes the dates to steer clear of it. Yet it that part is in the books and in the netflix version.

george miller hates the fact the biggest star in the original mad max was the persuit special. every film since hes either destroyed or completely ommited it. hes started to do the same with max now aswel :(

Tencent version, of course: Big Surprise, I didn't expect them to be able to create a good series like this at the present time (I thought their film industry was already filled with cheap web dramas)

While I prefer the Chinese version by a long shot, it does have serious pacing issues. It can feel way too long, and occasionally even drips into a bit of bordeom, which shouldn't happen, considering the source material is superb. Still, I prefer authentic adaptations and the Chinese is as close as possible. And most other things are done very well.

What a series! Emotionally charged 30 mins episodes that pack a punch. Sad and insightful at the same time. Ending is absolutely amazing

7:45 i think this is incorrect. a character that made a grass drink and got rich off of it that was friends of the dude sent into space using the solar sail was mentioned in the second or 3rd book. this person also gave the solar sail guy the required money to give the star to the girl. and in the semi-offficial fanfic 'the redemption of time" this relationship between the snack dude an the sail gut is built apon.

Watched both version, tencent's version is more realistic, and most parts coincide with the current technology.

the conclusion: Netflix version is way way better !!! and then many people have to say nice things about Tencent ver., just so its not so insignificant, but really there is no need to watch it too, there is just small minimum of new details, and overall tencent ver. is just much more empty in content even with being almost 30 hours long. The difference in story telling is unbelievable ! and this comparison really shows what does it mean to have a great production and director. (and ofc 20x bigger budget, but its worth many times over) Netflix version 10/10 = like the human civ=> full of art and life Tencent version 5.4/10 => like the trisolaris civ=> empty, no value, no meaning

I wish the Tencent version had the dialogue dubbed in English. It looks like it would be interesting to watch.

The Netflix version is good enough only for the american viewers. The rest of the world should never bother watching that crap

Very good essay. And I would also add that what makes BOB better than MotA is immerssiveness. It is easier to relate to those infantry men and feel their battleground experiences.

Agreed! This film is about her emotional life and not the business side of things. It's not a documentary, it shows her being someone who wanted a family life and to be cared for. Excellent film

I really enjoyed the Tencent version and felt it was a better reflection of book one. I was pleasantly surprised by the Netflix version. I was very worried as it was so few episodes vs the Chinese version of 30 episodes. I think the Netflix version told the story succinctly and was true to the overall story and seemed a little easier to follow with fewer characters. I’ve read all 3 books and have also listened to them several times on audible, and am excited for season two of each version.

I hope Tencent doesn't get influenced by the Netflix one and change the way they do things because I preferred the Chinese one

I like how the series doesn't show the San-Ti. I haven't read the book or seen the Tencent series, but not seeing them or knowing how they look keeps more of that mystery. I think that they might even be relatively small aliens (in size) due to their way of saving their lives by dehydrating.

Wonderful side-by-side. I think your review of both the Netflix and tencent series shows your admiration and deep respect for both the trilogy and Liu Cixin. I read the trilogy prior to watching the tencent series, then the netflix, so my preferences are biased a bit. However, for sheer comprehensiveness (esp. Ye Wenjie's story), storytelling, acting and fidelity, the tencent version ranks much better. IMO. One thing you didnt touch on was the quality of the acting. I thought the Netflix "Oxford 5" group could have been selected from a "Friends" audition, and frankly, none of them showed much acting ability to me, least of all the exorable Auggie. It was truly disappointing that Netflix didnt kill off her character. I have a feeling that even the ones who died will arise in the next season. Netflix counts on retaining all the Game of Thrones fans to boost veiwership and wont want them to miss their favorites next season. That said, I still look forward to both tencent and Netflix's next seasons.

Here is my (partial) view: 1) the interviews with the real Guarnere, Heffron, Winters ups the level enormously. Hard to do now since 98% of them are dead or too old. 2) i have seen BoB 2-3 times per year since it was released. The Pacific only 2 times. I didnt get caught up in the characters at all as much as in BoB. 3) its not on HBO/MAX
