Going to youtube is always clutch thanks 🙏
We're glad that it was helpful for you and welcome to our channel!
happy anniversay. smart to marry a cement mixer.
Thank you, and welcome to our channel!
Anytime you pour a slab use a truck . It will be worth it. Doesnt matter if you have to wheel barrow it down to work site. Only time ive ever used quick crete in a professional manner was doing ballards and pouring the footer for walls where i house was about to go. Doin it the cheap way is not professional at all. Quickcrete is for small places, not pads.
The cost of a truck far exceeded me, diying it as we live in the middle of a forest. Also, at no point did I mention that this project was done professionally. It's a DIY project and you're going to hate the next one I post because at the end of the summer, I'm doing a much bigger area the same way. Welcome to our channel!
appreciate the effort! painful to watch lol. diy is awesome for sure. however, if you do not due enough diligence, you will be creating a bigger project in a short time to uninstall, load, haul and reinstall properly. there is a very meticulous process for such a slab that should not be circumvented. and a handful of pro tips incorporated to reduce the time and making simple line items more complex (and not up to par). experience will move you forward. if you can afford it, hire a pro and watch them from start to finish. then diy after. regards and respect
Thanks for the info. Welcome to our channel!
Installing wood subgrade isn't a good idea and is not to code in many regions.
Good to know. Welcome to our channel!
You needed a concrete block footing below the frost level for your region.
We live in Florida, and I believe you're mistaken. Welcome to our channel!
So far, so good. Question; why 18" into the ground?
That's a good question because we live in Florida and don't have to worry about freezing 🤣. Habit I guess and because I typically do that for any post that I'm burying and it seems to hold as tightly as I like.
@@VIPHoldings Good answer! I have seen a lot if privacy fences fall over 'cause they only went down a foot or so. (About the depth of your shovel head.) It's so aggravating to see and yet so preventable! 18" minimum should be an industry standard. A 6' fence 24". Top soil is spongy and isn't really stable but deeper down it's like hard pack. It will hold a post more firmly. Myself, l would have let the post's run up above your floor and let it catch a handrail firmly also. But you probably have another good plan. To each his own! Good job so far. Keep up the good work.
@vernontorrence4407 Thank you
Only comment is I believe you should always pin a slab to the structure it is next to….regarding rebar or wire…you can never have too much, you can only have not enough.
You're the first person to mention pinning to a structure. Can you elaborate? As for rebar, I ended up using the chicken fence with brackets to keep it off the ground. Welcome to our channel!
Good video for getting most of the assembly put in the right places but they forget to verbalize parts of their process
Welcome to our channel! What did I forget? I try to get everything but do make mistakes from time to time.
I bought and assembled one of these 5 years ago. Today i finally broke it in. 52 bags of sacrete later i have a new front sidewalk.
HEY! Congratulations! Did it make you think about all the projects you want to do on the future? 🤣
Welcome to our channel
@@VIPHoldings it's got me thinking about other projects. I've always thought it was going to be really hard work. It really wasn't too bad.
@guyina4x499 idk, the first time I used mine was pretty brutal (we have a video of that too) but even though I was pretty worn out, all I could think is, "What's next?" 🤣

good job Brian ! 👌
Thank you, and welcome to our channel!
If you have a couple of people and it’s worthwhile to buy a second mixer just for the time savings. With two people and two mixers you can mix from scratch for substantial cost savings.
Though that is a great idea, I think next time, I will just pour much smaller sections. Welcome to our channel!
That is the cleanest used cement mixer I've ever seen
🤣 Thank you. I keep all of my tools clean because I can't afford new ones! Welcome to our channel
This product has by far the absolute worst instruction manual ever, especially for having soo many similar size parts (listed in metric with very innaccurate quantities listed)
Totally agree. That's why I created this guide to help everyone else having problems putting it together like I did. Welcome to our channel!
@@VIPHoldings thankyou your video helped A LOT. Getting that gasket on was a real trick, unfortunately i had to do it twice as i didnt have the two halves lined up before i saw your video. Thanks again!
@zebfischer6088 so glad we could help!
how long did the mixing and pouring take?
8 excruciating hours! 🤣 Totally worth it, though. We love that porch. Welcome to our channel!
Do you have to adjust anything when you lower the drum into the stand? My scenes uneven and does not fit both sides. Only one size fits the other is too far away. 1:50
No adjustments required. I would double check the U shaped piece is put together properly. If so, see if something is bent. Welcome to our channel!
@@VIPHoldings thank you. Had to take it back for replacement. Seems I was just lucky ha
Oh, that sucks! Good luck with the new one 👍

how do you have a concrete mixer but not a wheel barrow haha
Valid question, but I assure you, after that day I bought 2 wheelbarrows! 🤣 Welcome to our channel
While there is room for improvement, and I’m no expert by any means, I’m very impressed. Personally I don’t use straight concrete mix, I use the stuff that has rock already in it as well as use plastic underneath for a moisture wall. However you did it very well and it looks good!
Thank you, and welcome to our channel. So, where do you add the plastic? Under the foundation rocks or between the rocks and the pour? Why do you do it?
@@VIPHoldings being in the south and moisture is a big thing here as well as water, I used it on my car port ontop of just the bare ground(clay structure) however I would have liked to put it ontop of some gravel but didn’t want to risk tearing the plastic. So far I haven’t had a single issue on moisture or water pooling up. I’ll be building a storage pad and shop pad in the future, one will get plastic the other won’t
@Grady_OBS ok, so you used the plastic instead of rock? I think that was an intelligent and cost savings move but please don't make a video of it and post it on CZcams. Some of these "Pro" would eat you alive 🤣. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks
No problem
had two bolts in bag 12 left over
Were you able to get it assembled? Welcome to our channel!
@@VIPHoldings yes, thank you very much. Those are the best instructions I have ever seen on youtube. In fact, it rivals anything instructional video wise I have seen or used. I'm going to be posting this video on Facebook so others can use it.
@kdubyaw3246 Thank you so much! We are in the process of branching off our travel videos to their own channel and being able to focus more on videos like this one for this channel. We appreciate you so much.
Perfect slab? Look at how white it ended up from not finishing the concrete. There’s a lot of steps that were missed. They each have their purpose.
I'm just curious if you're such an expert.. why are you watching a beginner video?
@@VIPHoldings if it’s a beginner video, why does it say perfect slab? How can a beginner at anything in life achieve perfection? Aside from that, I never said I was an expert. But anyone who values their profession knows that they never stop learning. No matter how good you are, someone always knows more. So when I saw something that said “perfect,” it drew my attention. Rather than get defensive, wouldn’t it be more beneficial to ask what you did wrong?
@SergioPena20 Not really because I've had actual professionals tell me the finished product was good. As for learning, that's what our whole channel is about but we prefer to take advice from real professionals and even weekend warriors like ourselves instead of trolls that only want to criticize. Not adding any value at all with their posts. Try spreading positivity in your next post to someone else. Or at least take the old saying to heart, "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all."
@@VIPHoldings I’ll have to take your word for it as far as reactions go. But as far as my comment, I made it so that people looking for inspiration won’t think that wavy, white and powdery concrete with sharp edges is correct. If my comments bother you that much, delete them. If you want some tips, I’d gladly give you some. I’m not normally rude in comment sections because it’s not beneficial to anybody. But defensive comments usually receive offensive responses.
@SergioPena20 I don't think any of my viewers would ever look at your comments and think, "This guy really knows what he's talking about." Now, if you would have looked at the previous comments, you would have noticed that the real pros leave everyone valuable tips and even breaking down the entire process in a different way. And then there are trolls like yourself that probably have never done the work themselves, just watched a bunch of other people do it and think you're in a position to criticize someone actually doing it.
Is there any way to get this damn thing to stop spinning. Trying to put a panel of drywall on there and having the damn thing move everywhere as made me break a few. I have a lot of small spaces so I can’t just lift it up and put it in because of posts and walls in the way so I have to slide it in. Very frustrating
@dlewdm I don't think there is a way to keep it from spinning but I would recommend tilting it down and loading it as if you're putting it on the wall instead of trying to loft it up top. Have you tried that yet?
C-ment 😅
I just finished pouring 2 cubic yards of concrete into piers using a Home Depot concrete mixer that looks similar to yours. I used 60 lb bags, and mixed two at a time. I put 4 quarts of water in the mixer, then the two bags of concrete, and let it mix for a couple of minutes. Added 1 more quart, then a few sprays from the hose until the consistency was right. Instead of moving concrete from the mixer to the piers, I placed the mixer next to each hole, and built a chute out of scrap lumber and plywood so I could pour directly into the holes. I didn't carry or wheelbarrow any wet concrete. Worked pretty well. I'm just glad to be done with that job. 128 bags of concrete is a lot for my poor old body to lift.
That's a great idea! Mind if I steal it for my next pour? I'm happy to hear that your project went well and more importantly, it's done. Welcome to our channel!
The wire mesh is to support the concrete, not separate it from the gravel. Use "chairs" to elevate it 1/2 way into the concrete.
Yes sir, I absolutely did. I forgot to film that part but I promise, I didn't put it on the ground. Welcome to our channel!
Pouring concrete up against the foundation of the house 🤔 I would have used joint expansion but that’s just me
Can you explain? I don't know what that is but I'll be doing another big pour at the end of the summer and I'm trying to incorporate viewer feedback.
Just Google can I pour a concrete pad up against a foundation wall, should use what’s called should use concrete expansion joint strips, but like I said that’s just what I do
@@cdb989 I'll look into it. Thank you
We poured a 13 by 13. The screws were not complete in our equipment... You can put one 80 lb bag each time which makes it slow but we managed it. We sprayed water and watched consistency instead of measuring. The force of water spray helps too. Edited for better comprehension with use of ChatGpt :) Prepare the Site: Clear the area of any debris or vegetation. Put down 1-2 inches of gravel and level it by tapping to ensure a stable base. Form Your Mold: Construct a wood frame to outline the slab area. We ysed 2x4s. It us actually 3.5 inches! Do not be mistaken. Ensure the form is sturdy and well-secured. You can combine different lengths by screwing tmen together using a 12 inch part on the outer side as well. Pour and Level Masonry Sand: Pour 0.5-1 inch of masonry sand inside the mold. Tap to make the sand dense and flat. Ensure Proper Slope: Measure your level to make sure you have a 1/80th length slope for drainage. Oil the wood form for easy release later. Wet the sand to improve bonding with the concrete. Prepare the Concrete Mix: Mix the concrete so it is not too solid or too liquid. Work quickly if it is hot outside. Pour the Concrete: Pour the concrete, first filling halfway up the mold. Spread it evenly across the entire area. Add Reinforcement: Place your mesh or rebar halfway through the first layer of concrete. Fill to the Top: Continue pouring the concrete to fill the mold to the top. Spread and level it as you go. Level the Surface: Use a straightedge to level the concrete across the entire slab. Move it back and forth in a sawing motion for a smooth surface. Finish with a Magnesium Float: Use a magnesium float to smooth and perfect the surface. This step helps bring moisture to the surface for a better finish. Edge the Slab (Optional): Approximately 1 hour later, you can use an edger to round the edges if desired. You can go back and reedge after 30 min. The edger gets inserted hardly inbetween concrete and wood. I suggest ysing the edge of a knife or float to make space first. Pebbles can get in the way as well. Cure the Concrete: Cover the slab with plastic sheeting or a curing compound to retain moisture. Keep the concrete damp for at least a week to ensure proper curing. We still wet them once a day after a week.
I just took a screenshot of your list because we will be doing another BIG pour near the end of the summer. Thank you for taking the time to write it and welcome to our channel!
@@VIPHoldings Edited for clarity.
WOW! You are awesome! Thank you so much!
What could have sped the whole thing up? Someone mixing the concrete as youre finishing?
Absolutely! My helpers were doing the best that they could though. I'll do smaller sections next time too. Welcome to our channel!
Thanks for the video. It's good to see what can be done with a straightforward approach and minimal expense. I want to do a patio behind the house and it's really useful to see what other people experienced. I don't think it's even feasible to get a concrete truck back there without massive prep work or by using a skid steer or similar piece of rental equipment to run back and forth 20 times and rip up the yard. Since it'd be $$$$ to hire a contractor to do it, I could instead spend some of that money on purchasing more heavy duty concrete equipment or renting it anyway. I have a small mixer similar to the harbor freight mixer--but it's pretty labor intensive to even do small projects. Very helpful, thanks.
We absolutely love comments like this! We hope you diy your porch and have a blast doing it. You're right, it's a lot of work but totally worth it. Welcome to our channel!
Awesome
Thank you and welcome to our channel!
Cringy in the best way. Getting it done is what! I have recently taken some building courses at my local community college and went deep with concrete. The words you use are not correct to the profession but the result is perfection for the intended use. How did your back feel after all this? Looking to do similar work, already have the mixer but only used it for fence posts at this point.
I was in bed for a couple days after this. Good luck on yours and welcome to our channel!
NO MASK IRON LUNGS😂
I know, I know. Normally I would but we were outside and it was too hot for that. We are in Florida and this was taken midsummer. Welcome to our channel!

@@VIPHoldingshahah sorry. I couldn’t resist. I can definitely tell you’re not from NY lol. Also, great video. Love how ambitious you are. Pretty big job to tackle yourself
@NickRedingOfficial no worries brother and absolutely not from NY. Too damn 🥶 up there. My wife and I like to scuba dive year round!
Good job dude, forget what others say including the so call professionals you wanted it you started it and got it done congrats 👍
Thank you, brother. We appreciate that. Welcome to our channel!
I had missing hardware too but not hard to replace, just inconvenient. Also, you don't need to mess with the electrical anymore, it's already done. One more thing if anybody decides to buy it, the hardware all come in the same baggie. LOL have fun.
To be honest, I don't know if I had missing hardware 🤣. The instructions were so bad I couldn't tell which was which so I just put them where I "thought" they should go! Welcome to our channel!
How long to just do the pouring? I get you had time in the prep work but trying to get the pour time by itself. Thanks!
It's been a while, but I believe the pour time was around 6 or 7 hours. Welcome to our channel!
I poured a 6’x3’x4” slab last weekend by myself. Used an earlier model of that mixer and I screeded as I went. It was tough even at that size so you have my respect. A thought for next time is to have the top of the forms boards to be your screed level and screed as you go. I found putting the right amount of water in first is the way to go. I also used 50# bags x2 per batch and kept the mixer running the whole time.
We love hearing from fellow DIYers! We will be doing another big project this summer and we definitely keep your recommendations in mind. Welcome to our channel!
Watch out for bent and bowed metal parts. Really is poorly built, nothing on it actually fits or works as intended. Harbor has this lift for $249.95 plus tax, no discounts. You can buy one several other places much lower price. I bought one about 10 years ago from harbor freight, much better quality, if it has any quality at all.
Mine worked great but has been sitting for about a year. Now I can’t get the switch to work. I noticed the yellow tab on the switch is missing. Is that some sort of safety? maybe the switch just isn’t working anymore.
I actually don't know about the Yellow tab and I'm currently traveling abroad so I can't go check mine but you can put a meter on the switch wires and see if your switch is dead. Sorry I couldn't be more help but welcome to our channel!
Did we somehow forget that the mixer has wheels?
Not at all. Check out previous comments. Welcome to our channel!
Really did a great job for being the first one. Just make sure that wire sits up a lil off the ground so it is in the concrete and the concrete is not on it that helps reinforce the slab. But definitely y’all did a great job. And video was real helpful 👍👍🫡
We found wire stands that were actually designed for just that. Welcome to our channel!
Great
Thank you, and welcome to our channel!
If you dont want to absolutely break your back and have a good looking slab, save your money and hire a professional. Man works like an animal.
If you hire a professional, you may save time and will definitely save your own back, but you will not save money. Plus, do you want to tell your kids, "Look what Daddy paid for?" Or would you prefer to tell them, "Look what Daddy built?" I prefer the latter. Welcome to our channel!
@VIPHoldings save your money to pay a professional. You absolutely won't save money. Your kids could care less about who poured a slab. I've done enough basketball courts and the kids have fun regardless. They're just happy dad and mom got it for them
I run two wheel barrels two bags per wheel barrel side by side mix and dump. That mixer is a total fail!
I completely get that. You should be able to tell by looking at it that this machine is not built for that much demand. For small diyers like myself, this machine works as intended, in my opinion. Welcome to our channel!
