a good compromise would be ornamental armor/weapons irl. They are still wearable, adding more fanstastical designs over it would make it more viable.
Ants in your pants?! 💀
Timely as my current shoes are dying. People at my club tend to recommend squash shoes or tennis shoes as they are designed for all the lateral forces that you put through your feet doing HEMA.
Detailed review. Awesome!
Thank you for the review. I had been looking into possibly getting one. I do like the look of it, but i also feel like it is a bit overbuilt for something id just fence against other smallswords with. At least for my tastes. I already was thinking that about 530g nevermind 590g.
I love how you just spawned at 1:20 Thank you for the video, great help to learning the basics!!
I like barefoot style shoes, like Vivobarefoot or something similar. The ability to feel the ground and the foot to perform anatomically is important.
where is the badger profesor stofell ?
my fav honey badger
looks like a mixture of zucken and zwerchau
Looks like a slight twist/rotation with the sword to the right, which kind of flows into the cut? At least that what I'm seeing.
Nice. Next time do the toilet run before you do the videos, this jittering about is unbecoming of a seasoned fighter.
This video desperately needs subtitles
Thank you for your video ! Love the little "spawning effect" :D !
So cute 🥰
2 years later, i had the honor of being your 69th Thumbs up. Nice.
I used to start with a stickman when drawing and layered stuff on 1. Thicken stickman 2. add gambeson and colour it 3. add helmet 4. add coif 5. add mail overcoat and skirt 6. add plate limbs, colour exposed gambeson under mail 7. add cuirass 8. add surcoat 8. add belt and scabbard if there is one After a few pieces you can expedite the process and clean things up
That is very cool. I sometimes wonder though how would it look like if their lives depended on it.
much more careful and cautious I would imagine
Hi. It is really interesting intepretations. Since our traditional aproach based on for instance Meyer´s 1570 treatise differs a lot in many aspects. Why do you stand in a line with your feet? Why do you tend to jump in and out, when it is cleary stated in the text, longsword operates the main strikes in hand and leg synchronization. So stand with left foot forward and right leg goes with the right side strike... Your way seems like a mutation adapted for modern sport tournaments, but it is contradicting the text it self. I suggest to disconnect such intepretation form the original concept. It is apaprently ment for different use. I dont dare to say its bad or wrong. It isnt. But at the same time it has nothing to do with what Meyer writes about and how fencing works as martial art. I hope you understand our perspective. This is not an offensive word or insult, on the contrary. We wish you many victorious events and great fun! If you d like to discover more about traditional aproach without mask and gear, come and join some of our international events in Europe. God speed!
Thanks for the video!!
Very nice, the new helmet looks what I imagine the Dragon helm of Dor Lomin worn by Turin look like.
Thank you so much for this. I know it’s gonna take a long time, but it’ll be worth it!
I love the video but my constructive criticism would be that all the movement is a bit much and too over exaggerated. Got very distracting and difficult to watch. Imo of course.
This is correct enough form. In very few situations do you want to stand still and rigid. Staying moving allows you to better react to your opponents actions, as it is easier to move off center or intercept if your weight is already in motion.
Meyer are considered exaggerated on the past itself. Even them decided it is too much lol.
What is the pourpose of that grey toned canvas you start your works on?Is it simply because you like it more(can be more comfortable for eyes)that way or because you can visibly add highlits in white shades to create sort of map for how colors are added in much later more advance steppes of painting process?Or some other practical reason behind it?
It's simply just easier on the eyes having a mid-tone on the screen. Working with a white background can be a bit bright.
@@robbiemcsweeney1318 Thanks for your kind reply🙂🐬.
God, what a bounce. It makes me dizzy to watch.
great content
This video would have easily be under 10min
I appreciate that you need to keep moving when sparring, but for the purposes of making a video about the guards, small movements are distracting. Instead, it would be helpful to hold position, at least for a few seconds, ideally while the camera rotates around you to show different angles. A useful follow up video would show how to transition into or out of these guards when using them to attack/defend. Blood and Iron HEMA channel have made some of these.
Also, what's the difference between Plow an Iron Door as they seem similar? Is it just the height at which you hold the sword?
you can practice guards still if you want to but his micro movements are actually invaluable because you do not stay still in a sword fight
Nice! I love more attention to often forgotten manuals! I’m happy to see Jörg Wilhalm getting some attention too! His stuff is also largely the fundament for Paulus Hector Mair’s longsword section, who has a more didactical approach in his plays, so its really neat to put them both next to eachother to deepen the understanding of both!
Dude... Stop that unnecessary shifting. Are you a fancer or do you breed bees in your pants? Meyer is about fluidity and not rumhampeln.
What strike from Ox can be intercepted by Zornhut
the video entitled "Joachim Meyer - Zornhut: 6. Stück" on Björn Rüther's channel shows a counter against an unterhau from ox i suppose the other thing ox is good for is driving into a thrust and you can parry that with a downward cut (if you get there in time anyway)
the starhemburg, glasgow, and goliath fechtbuchs are some of the most studied in all of hema idk why they are on this list. Also peter von danzig zum ingolstadt did not write the longsword gloss in either the starhemburg or goliath fechtbuch, they not attributed to anybody. On wiktenauer you'll notice that it says the gloss is by *pseudo* peter von danzig, PvD was originally though to have been the author of the blossfechten gloss in the 90's-2000's, however in the starhemburg fencing book only a kamppfechten (ie armored fencing) gloss is attributed to him, but the name stuck so people started saying it's by pseudo peter von danzig as a shorthand to mean its not really by him but a lot of people associate it with his name.
I know that it's fun to say hey that's not realistic, but the first concern of an artist is to make it look cool. Depending on the setting the balance between aesthetics and realism changes.
Big HP fan, I remember watching The Chamber of Secrets in the cinema as a kid and thinking "That sword looks too shiny and new to be 1000 years old" plus I wasn't a fan of how small the sword was but love the new design, very interesting with the history!
Kosovo is not a state dude, wtf are you doing ? You might as well redesign a flag of neverland while you're at it.
I honestly wish someone would go through all of Meyer’s book in this format. Wonderful
Content is all nice But I hope you don't butcher opponents like you butcher German names 😂
Stink badgers are actually in Mephitidae, they are the least related of the badgers mentioned and honey badgers.
There was also the leather buff coat, which was a piece of early modern kit. Basically a thick leather coat, often worn under a breast plate.
I like this alot, It makes me wonder if i might try to remake it myself. I want to work more towards the Fantasy elements, knowing its made of goblin silver, I was thinking to make it more like a fantasy sword with a unsuaual shape. Kinda like how the elves in Lotr have a unique look to them.
It's interesting to me how frequent one handed strikes are in the English writings we have, especially compared to the continental systems.
Can you just stop the horrendous shuffling? 🤮
not rly interested in historical art but I got a commission for a dnd character and it helped a bit
I think throwing in something from the Bolognese tradition (Marozzo is IMO the most accessible) is probably a good idea - although it can be pretty intimidating task, much like Fiore, there is a lot of weapons. You could argue Bolognese tradition isn't that obscure, but I don't think Vadi is either?
Vadi is more obscure, than bolognese as a whole, and on par or less obscure, than bolognese inspired longsword, IMO.
I MISSED YOU!
All the links in the description are "blank".
Thanks for letting me know. They should all be fixed now :)
Awesome info! Will definitely be taking a look at a few of these.
Ooh, that's a beauty.
Are these out of print?
Have you taken hits between the shin and knee guards?
