Chuck did not like losing at Chess.
Kirk plays chess in an illogical manner and that beats Spock?
This Is my Greatest Football player and The Best Running Back this year was tough for me I was 14 years old going to turn 15 in August at church camp over 4th Of July I had a pretty bad fall from a rope swing first day of camp and just like that was developing a Serious Illness that took so many different Doctors to Diagnose in 1977 and I had grown up in East Texas Longview only about 40 miles from Tyler and our HS Football team was Always Good except for the time Earl Campbell played for our Nemesis John Tyler he was a Linebacker that would also play Running back and saw him run for over 300 yards and still every defense play then my Father was The Biggest University of Texas Football Player and a Longview Lobo ex James Street would become a Longhorn Legend and win National Titles and my Dad would take me my 3 Brothers to Longhorn games as Boys and had us in Longhorn letter jackets and getting to go to see The Famous Texas Arkansas games in late 60s as boys I Loved my Dad and some times I would be only one going my parents divorced when I was 5 so in 1977 Finally after dozens of Doctors I got right diagnosis and then had to have Emergency Surgery in Houston at Brand new hospital Jerry Lewis telephones paid for I was having to watch every Texas game at hospital when I did get out my Dad got me tickets to the Cotton Bowl and 1 brother and a Good friend his Mother and my Grandmother woke up to Drive to Dallas and it was iced over bad I just knew I was not going to get to go but my Grandmother would not let me down it was tough we went was tough because ND while home recovering from my Major Surgery the door bell rang and a delivery from The University of Texas and my Mother had written them a letter about how I Loved that term and what I was going through I opened A Football with my name and Score of the Texas Texas Tech football game 26 -0 Longhorns and autographed by every Football player on that team including Earl Campbell Heisman Trophy year! FYI the mathematician on the right played the hero in the movie Dragonslayer.
Yeah… glad they avoided this like the plague. The proper intro gives the tone the show really needs, and what works with the hero’s journey: a reluctant devotion to duty and those with the power thrusting the resources and responsibilities upon the hero that can. This is what makes “The Incredible Hulk”, “Knight Rider”, and so many other shows work: the hero isn’t happy doing what he does or what he is, but takes solemn satisfaction in an outcome he ensured came to pass in some small way through his contribution. No one gladly walks into a surgical suite to be eviscerated and turned into a government tool, and if they did, they’d fail the psychological screening to become an OSI cyborg.
0:26 Loud Music
Bobby revolutionized chess in America that exists to this day.
1:41 King to rook1 was better
The game also reflects the scenario of the movie I think. Queen(Pris) to Bishop(Sebastian) six check. Knight(Deckard) takes Queen(Pris). Bishop(Sebastian) to King(Tyrell) seven check mate. Roy himself was the king on the other end. This movie is a genius masterpiece.
/loses chess /dramatically crepes pants
2025 Anyone?
THAT MUSIC MATE , THAT BACKGROUND MUSIC WAS GENIAL ...................
"Queen to Bishop six check" rofl dafuq was this guy smoking, space crack
Yeah I came here to see if anyone else didn't think that sounded right.
1:33 - I never get that dramatic music when I play chess...
1:22 60s era text message
An awesome player and human…
Fun fact: the Bond set designers invented the big board for this scene, now it is used at official chess tournaments all over the world.
A brilliant coup? Ha, looks like he kicked your butt. I learned those old chess notations when I first learned chess - about a hundred years ago. So clunky compared to the algebraic notation.
My parents and I love them and my mother Dana is with them in heaven but don't worry you will be able to see them and you can ask them questions about what they used to do sincerely Shannon
Don’t think Bobby Fischer would have appreciated his opponent smoking.
Note the Canadian flag
The era when every Oriental villain on a British screen was played by Burt Kwouk and every Slavic villain was played by Vladek Sheybal.
One of the most beautiful sets in cinema. If I had a mansion this room would be in it.
Took me a long time to realise that Kronsteen was actually a play on David Bronstein: one of the strongest players who never became world champion.
Sean was ,, Bond
Far more interesting than this dumbed-down and heavy-handed portrayal of a pro-level chess match is the idiotic conversation below about whether he would have said 'check' or not. People inventing rules / asserting complete b-s as fact / misquoting and misrepresenting 'authorities' on the topic, etc. etc. Quite an astounding display of childish lying just to get your own opinion believed.
I really expected a pithy comment from Bond, James Bond.
Why are Jan and Dean not in the rock and roll hall of fame yet a sin jan and dean and this song and the little old lady from Pasadena need go in
That hoser didn't sound very Canadian, eh?
The floor is 10x8 😮
The Specter agent's opponent played a yacht captain in a Sean Connery movie named "Woman of Straw". Only movie I ever saw where Connery played a villain!
Many small, if unappreciated, reasons why From Russia With Love is the best Bond movie. This is one of them.
Creed is effortlessly hilarious 😂
Great to see Canadas flag in this picture.
I don’t think I would ever want to be friends with either of these two.
I was & am a Dolphins fan, but Earl Campbell was my favorite player
There should be a national Bobby Fischer Day.

If Tyrell were a true chess genius he would have easily seen the two move mate!
Wow! I hope that person got fired.
I love this scene. It's so atypical of most of what you would watch in a tv program. That's par of what made this episode so entertaining to watch. A scene devoted entirely to chess. First, showing off Kirk's insightful skills that even stun a logical Mr. Spock. Then, a young kid "hotshot" who thinks he knows everything and suffers a temper tantrum because he realizes he was outplayed and made to appear foolish and stupid. The whole scene is captivating from start to finish. It's 1960s pop television writing at it's finest!!
The stakes change how the game is played.
Charlie a spoiled brat with uncontrollable power
👍👍👍👍
The game is a slightly altered version of Spassky - Bronstein from 1960 !
Danke!
Assuming the rules of space chess are similar to chess, wouldn’t Kirk have to move his king out of check before check mating Spock?
Those bond movies had so many intriguing scenes...masterpieces
This is (very nearly) a genuine game - barring a few different pawns, it is the end of the Spassky Bronstein game from the 1960 USSR Championship. One of the only films to do chess properly, although in real life the players wouldn't actually say check or knock their king over.
Why didn't Charlie use his powers to force Spock to make bad moves?
