You really attacked the question of copying very well. By copying you learn the essence of what makes a work great and you might even learn how to make it greater and figure out weaknesses.

I need you to copy the "99% Invisible" episode about furniture (I think it's called 77 steps). I think it's about the equity of copying...make good design affordable.

Just subscribed and looking forward to learning more about what it's like in the industry 🚀 Quick question: What advice would you give a recent grad who wants to pivot into Industrial Design from a jack-of-all trades design program? Context: I graduated in June 2023 from Stanford with a B.S. Engineering with specialization in Product Design & I've been applying for almost a year now but no luck. At Stanford, the Product Design major was a program within the Mechanical Engineering department, so we did the MechE core sequence, with upper division "Design Thinking" courses from the d.school. The program was mostly Digital, business, UI/UX and Design Research-focused bc of the Pandemic and integration with Silicon Valley, less hands-on/sketching or traditional ID content. The cool thing about the program is we get to experience a variety of design disciplines, but Industrial Design, Architecture, and Transportation design are what I'm most keen on but least experienced in. I hope you have a nice week :)

The staggering amount of research required to learn about and use biomimicry is intimidating - Pulling it off involves science, maths, and a shit tonne of reading, all the things I hate 😂

excellent explanation Morna. as an industrial designer, the times i’ve designed alone [without referencing other products] i’ve received comments that the concepts seem uninspired. and that’s because they were. take inspiration, especially with a wide net. you’ve only stolen a design or an idea if the end result is the same. appropriation, for the most part, is key to human progression.

Did you used the help of AI to chose the footage? When you said "siloed" shows literal "grain silos". Not a critic, I work on R&D for AI.

I'm an quite new UX UI designer working for emerging industries making gen-z app design , i like to take inspiration from quite random things and spend time pondering through design before picking up pen and start the final design, its already be in my head from the accumulation from other designs and sometimes some stuff quite very similar, my junior colleagues complaints that i plagiarise or something whjch is not true but i feel after watching this that its really homage to good design not really ripping off any existing design as it is

Why is it that these job videos always picture high rise offices. super trendy surroundings..never dirty machine shops where the real understanding is gained..leads to very unrealistic expectations..Like...you're not really employed if you're not looking down on the city. in super trendy clothes, phone in hand...etc..Start at the bottom..use a broom and observe, draw and concept on your own time for awhile

In the film industry we are always looking at others for inspiration. Every film has thousands of images of all kinds of subjects that help inform the look of a film during the process of design.
