Yes, as a Christian we love Ellen but it is still a sin and not what God wants for us. Most guys want multiple girfriends, but we all know that is wrong. Nobody is gay, there is no gay gene.
nobody brought up soldiers and its not a competition lmao, coming out in the 90’s especially was brave it literally ruined her career for a good few years
What I don't understand is why Ellen DeGeneres addressed Laura Dern as Susan. I looked for a video of this episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show after hearing Laura Dern speak about it in an interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air today, so I know that's who it is!
People who weren't around then don't know what a big lead-up to this moment there was. Ellen did a movie called "Mr. Wrong" that tanked because nobody bought her as a straight woman. Her being gay was the worst-kept secret in Hollywood, and it was only a matter of time before the shoe dropped - and she decided to beat them to it. She paid the price at first (losing her show and her career), but she found success again and became an inspiration to millions. Beat that.
At :18 when she mentions not being able to say the word the camera briefly pans over her shoulder and juuuust cuts the “T” in “Gate 35” so it looks like “Gay”. She also later mentions being 35 and unable to say it. Cool little blocking trick.
This was such a huge event in the 90s, it’s kind of funny to look back now and see her tell jokes about or situations in the sitcom where they tried to portray her having romantic situations with men, cause it’s just so known now- she’s gay, no biggie! But it was huge, kids these days will never know what a crazy clusterf*** it was when Ellen came out on her show. But I’m glad she did it, hopefully that helped some people deal with the decision to come out, that can seem like a giant life altering event. But if she could do it on national television, maybe others could find the strength to tell their friends and family.
I can't believe some of the hate Ellen got, even on you tube, just because of this. I'm bi, and remember getting treated differently. People can be hateful!
Ellen has always said the show was canceled because she came out. I stopped watching, at some point, bcause the show was no longer as funny after the coming out epiosode, which was a hoot. Many gays said the same thing. I have absolutely no issue with Ellen being gay.
Declining ratings had a lot to do with the show's cancelation. Alabama stations stopped airing her show after coming out. Her career nearly ended back then.
I'm quite old, but gay always seemed normal to me. I never knew what the fuss was about. In fact, gays and lesbians are the most dynamic and talented of all people. Yet here we are in 2022 & people are still upset.
"Why do I have to be so ashamed? Why can't I just say the truth? I mean, be who I am?" Because it's still the 20th Century, and America still isn't ready. Half the country still thinks being gay is "a repulsive lifestyle," and announcing it is "shoving it in our faces." We're now almost a quarter of the way into the 21st Century, and while more people than ever are accepting of this, those who aren't are fighting back with their disgusting bigotry harder than ever.
Its a funny, partially-forth-wall moment for her sitcom. Not like ‘Seinfeld’ isn’t such a bad thing- it’s impossible. IF a fucking SJW tries to say her show is as good or somehow _better_ than ‘Seinfeld’, I’ll wanna fucking kill myself though!🖕🏻🤬👉🏻🐄💩
I remember when this episode aired, as things got going the local news cut in for a severe weather bulletin, luckily there was another ABC station I could get in, so I only missed a couple minutes. I've since seem this episode multiple times. On a personal note, this was so me when I was in my late 20s and seeing this helped me through my own process.

And last week two girls at my high school came out as kittens .. and we have to put a litter box on the bathroom now .. true story
Who knew she was such a garbage person in real life. Apparently gay doesnt equal nice.
And that was the beginning of the end of her career.
Maybe for the next 3 years after this came out, but then her talk show became super popular and she’s a household name. So, you’re incorrect.
Thank you, Ellen.
❤ love Ellen!

Wrong, there is. Plus nobody asked.
i remember my parents laughingso hard atthis
Love Ellen 💛 she's so funny. Funny show, funny lady, funny scene
Ellen is a better actress than a host
I don't know how every woman isn't gay, when the alternative is being with a guy. 😅
Wow to listen to these comments you’d think she was braver than the soldiers who died in two world wars how pathetic
nobody brought up soldiers and its not a competition lmao, coming out in the 90’s especially was brave it literally ruined her career for a good few years

Can anyone tell me what is different between gay and lesbian?
A lesbian is a women who likes women and a gay a man who likes man
And THAT was the moment the world found out that what she said signified her true self.

BALLS OF STEEL. Or, should I say, OVARIES of steel.
Considering that this episode was made in 1997, I'm impressed by how much applause this scene got! 😃
Was 12 and my grandmother watched this show. I was disgusted.
listen to your own name and STFU255
This is truly disgusting.
Ah yes no love like Christian hate
That's funny, she's pretending to be ashamed.
She wasn’t ashamed actually she was nervous
Ellen acted???? :O
So Proud of Ellen Well Done 👏💓💞

Alternative title : Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, comes out to Paleobotanist Ellie Satler
I can't believe some of the hate Ellen got, even on you tube, just because of this. I'm bi, and remember getting treated differently. People can be hateful!
sick, very sick!
I really love the studio audience losing it
The scene earlier in the episode where she was "in the closet" talking to one of her friends was HILARIOUS.

So what? What's the problem? You still are human, just like all of us!!

JUST ......... S H I T
Before Ellen Entertainment show. That about be off the air for good.
I haven’t seen the sitcom in 14 years and today is her last show as a talk show host
Why is everyone talking about how brave she is, I thought this was scripted? Can someone clue me in please
Were the last very few seconds of this video scripted? (Both of their reactions?)

History changer And when she announced it in the microphone when she didn't want it to go out HAHAHA! 😂😂😂

Too bad Ellen turned into such a disgusting human being.
And this was the beginning of the end for decent society.
Cry. And get over your crush on Dylan
