Dave Mackay’s Derby side was beautiful to watch in the days of goalies not wearing gloves, little arguing with the referee (even though there were some terrible decisions) sponsorship limited to advertising around the pitch, European Cup for Champions only and a proper knock out competition. Spurs had good forwards but their defence was awful. The notion that if you have mediocre defenders but good forwards, you will continue to win matches has always been a problem at Spurs. In this particular game, the full backs and wing halves were third rate. Hence, they were thumped by Derby.

I was at that game. Trevor Whymark missed a penalty early in the second half (not shown here) which might have squared it at 3-3 and the outcome would have been different.
