Now Im filming the amazing 4WD Adventures that I go on, and sharing them with you.
Through out my travel videos i provide as much information as i can, so you can follow my adventures in your own 4WD.
I also film a lot of tips videos from my experience of many years camping and travelling Australia.
Thanks for stopping in on my channel and I hope you enjoy the video content I'm making.
If you comment on any of my videos, i will reply back to everyone that leaves a comment.
If you have any questions about four wheel driving, camping, the great out doors etc, please let me know.
I hope that I will see you guys out in the bush some day.
Cheers Batesy.

Self Drive 4WD Track On Merna Mora Station - [ FLINDERS RANGES ]
Ep two, I'm solo camping on Merna Mora Station in the South Australia's Flinders Ranges.
On one of the days i took on a self drive 4WD track across the station.
The ridge top drive provided stunning mountain views with a couple of quite challenging sections that required staying off the brakes, thats for sure.
But, well worth the drive and it's a 4WD ONLY track.
Over the couple of days base camped with my off road camper trailer beside a dried up river bed and surrounded by massive gum trees.
The wild life that came close to my camp made for a very relaxing few days.
During my South Australian outback farm stays adventure, i have explored the farm in my 4WD along the farm tracks that are used to move sheep around around the property.
I thoroughly enjoyed solo camping experience at Merna Mora Station in Outback South Australia.
It was very relaxing sitting around my campfire, with some good old bush cooking on the campfire.
I hope that you enjoy episode two from my Flinders Ranges adventure.
I will be camping on three Flinders Ranges station stays over the two weeks.
Thank you for watching this video covering my solo camping experience at Merna Mora Station.

Updating My ZD30 After Recent Head Gasket Work.

I've just returned from a big road trip into the Flinders Ranges. So, How is my ZD30 going after the recent head gasket work?? I only had my Patrol back on the road a couple of weeks, before setting off on a pretty major road trip and towing my off road camper trailer as well. I have a lot of faith in my well used ZD30, but it was sure in the back of my mind if the road trip was going to take i...

Onya Tim. That is an epic location to stop for a few days. It's added to the list for the next time we head west. Good quality video mate. Well done!
Good to c you carrying your plb being solo
Thanks for sharing buddy ❤
F miss this place
Would it possible that the bullbar or vehicle panels could be electrically live when the winch box was smoking? Also would turning the vehicle ignition off also cut power to the winch in the same way? Definitely going to ensure I have a suitable fire extinguisher.
Thanks Tim for another fantastic episode. What a great place. I enjoy all your episodes, simple camping is the best without all the marketed gadgets out there that you don’t need. My elderly dad an old scout leader loves your videos. Suffering health problems and limited movement he watches and feels like he’s out there sitting by the fire enjoying the bush with you. Great work mate 👍
@@southernaustralis Gday mate Thanks very much for your feedback. It sure was a great place to kick back for a few days. I hope your dad is going ok. The scouting movement is where my passion for the bush and the simple life began. I went right through from Cubs, Scouts and Ventures. Best years of my life for a young lad growing up. Thanks again. Cheers Tim.
Beautiful place and amazing shots of those moving clouds among many others you captured. Geez we aussies are so lucky with our gorgeous landscapes - it is never boring! Thanks for sharing this - good to see the campfire cooking too!
Nice one bloke. Take away the vegetation and you would think you was driving on the moon or mars lol
Hope that doesn't mean you lost your trowel!
Wouldn't fancy driving those drop offs in an auto. Thanks Tim
great video as usual Tim. Spectacular scenery and certainly one stop off I will get around to. Is that pie one of your creations? are you still working on getting a pie prototype up and running? Great editing Tim, love it.
Mate this trip is one of your best, the scenery is spectacular. Tim do you do much still photography and what equipment do you use.
Hey Tim, Ive just now hit the same point with my 2007 patrol, experiencing the same symptoms and Im really quite stuck on where to go next. Its definetly a tough position to end up in, after so much time spent fixing and improving the car and engine, just for all that trust to diminish instantly. I don't know whether the money is worth spending on the engine, as I dont feel I can ever truly rely on it again. Glad that you found success with your's though.
@@stabler1291 yeah it’s a big decision on what to do mate. For me, I had no choice really. I don’t have the funds for an engine swap of any sort. So, going down the road I did was the only option I had. So far so good and it’s going great. All the best with yours and which way you go. Thanks for your feedback Cheers Tim.
Thanks Tim , looked like a great trip . Keep ‘em coming ! 👍👍🍻🍻
@@markhopkins9925 thanks mate. It was a wicked trip. Cheers Tim

@@frednurk4342 thanks heaps mate. A lot of hours goes into it that’s for sure mate. I greatly appreciate your feedback Cheers Tim
i have to turn it off for 10 mins , after you do a slow mo. Too much for me.
@@Dogteddy1 no worries. Appreciate the feedback Cheers Tim.
Its cooked through, but is wet on the bottom, where it simmered in its own juices. While that still tastes great! You have to raise that bird off the bottom of the over to keep the skin dry and crispy. Either use a few trivets or a lot of vegetables (which roast perfectly in the chicken broth!) To elevate to chicken. But the KEY is to vent the lid, a bit, and let out that moisture, towards the end of the cook time. That crispens the skin up, but doesn't dry out the chicken meat! Use a green stick, chop stick, skewer, something to vent the lid.
You make me hungry 🤤 every time 😂. Thanks Tim.
@@JamesSecretofski haha lol. Thanks for your feedback Cheers Tim.
Dear Tim, I've never heard a pot with a spout called a "billy" before, but I like that term. I never would've guessed you made your own spatula, but it looks just as well-made as any metal spatula I've seen in the US. You said "muffins", and my first thought was "Time to look up a muffin recipe and start baking", but I'll probably do that another day. I don't want to bake anything without guidance from a more experienced person because I might experience an epileptic seisure. I've experienced one that put me in the floor before, and it's not fun. Luckily, bright strobe lights do nothing but annoy me. If I get the opportunity to experience the Flinders Ranges at some point, I'm going for it. Cheers, Colton
Flinders is an amazing place. I stayed at merna mora but didn’t have time to do this track, will be next on the list

nothing wrong with keeping the ZD30 but if you did a TD42 conversion would still be Nissan parts...🤷♂
@@andrewcoulter323 can’t put a td42 in my Patrol mate. The last 42 was made in 2006. My Patrol is 2009. You can’t go backwards in engine technology due to emissions. Thanks mate. Cheers Tim.
Pie & sauce for lunch, does it get much better? Yes 'Rack Of Lamb, mint sauce' cut into individual cutlets, meat on a stick, awesome finger food/tucker. Try it, enjoy it. I'm a bit partial to rack of lamb myself.
@@ianweal3081 yeah mate. Rack of lamb does go well in the camp oven. I’ve made that a few times. I must get back on it again soon. Thanks mate. Cheers Tim.
There's always one, and I guess that's me. I'm not a fan of the Finders. No free camping, lots of no facility paid camp grounds, and stations charging accommodation and track access fees.. it's all a bit of a tourist wank... and not the direction I want to see 4x4 in Australia head! On my last trip to Tassie several of the tracks were gated with you having to pay for the key at shire office, and I don't really see the difference with stations just because great granddad signed a lease. Years ago heading towards Broken Hill, a station hand turned up and told me off for a)free camping on station land and b)swimming in their cattle trough. I told him, don't worry I wont be back ;-)
@@MrFastFarmer that’s fine mate if the Flinders isn’t for you. I loved it and I’ll be back some day for sure. The camping fees on The stations are pretty minimal. I don’t have a problem paying to drive the tracks on the stations. I’d hate to think what there public liability insurance is every year to alloy people to drive the station tracks. It would be massive. Each to their own. I appreciate your feedback Cheers Tim
Great video. I’m really enjoying this series. That track looked a good one. I think I read somewhere the Station has a couple of other tracks that are longer. I’m surprised you don’t use your air-locker compressor for the tyres. What compressor do you use ? Cheers
@@4bnewb969 thanks mate. It was a great trip in the Flinders. Yeah I think there’s 3-4 tracks to drive. Plenty to pick from. My locker compressor isn’t big enough for the tyres as well. I think it’s a Max Air 11 I’d have to check mate. Thanks for your feedback Cheers Tim
Thanks Tim another cracking video, I did the Southern Flinders with my daughter last week and it was also spectacular, wild life, scenery, river red gums and campfires. Can’t beat it. That 4 wheel drive track looks to be a must do at some stage too.
@@paulkenny7363 thanks mate. Really top place to camp up for a few days. Sounds like you had a great trip with your daughter mate. Top stuff. It’s worth a drive that’s for sure. Great day out. Cheers Tim
I have to ask Tim, what’s the science (or personal preference) in busting the egg yolks when frying them ? Whatever the answer keep the vids coming, we love your work !!
Beautiful scenery. Only one thing I'd add to dinner some mushrooms in the pan. If you wanted to get flash instant gravy dash of cream 😅
Stunning mountain scenery mate. That sounds like a nice addition to an already tasty dinner. Thanks for that. Cheers Tim

Very nice. I love some of the old gear or cheap stuff that the rev limiter has found in her Op shop travels. Fancy new stuff is nice as well but a lot of the older stuff is just so much better quality. Is that cast iron frypan an oldie as I've been looking for a bigger one than what I have atm? Finding a second hand one has been nigh on impossible and I don't really like the ones that the chain stores have. No doubt one will turn up eventually. Thanks for the video.
I like using the old gear, it still does the job no worries. Nah mate, that pan isnt that old. Think i'll bring my bigger old pan next time. Its a better size pan my older one. Keep looking mate, you'll find one. Cheers Tim
Thanks, Tim, where is the Trowel?
hi Tim, as a South Aussie I've been there a few times, chilled tracks and some the most beautiful mountains in SA. The track you did, the Wowee track, is the shortest track they have. the other 2 are on the other side of the highway and go up into the mountain ranges a bit. The historic track is awesome shows a lot of history to do with building the Old Ghan railway, it's very interesting... Make sure you stop in at Bendleby Ranges, great spot and some great tracks...
There's so much to see on these stations. I'll be back for sure and check out the other tracks on the station. The mountain range from the higher peaks make for a stunning view. Thanks mate. Cheers Tim
Thank you Tim for sharing your experiences. It is refreshing to see one can enjoy the great outdoors in a simple way and without breaking the bank to do it. I can never watch enough of your camp fire cooking.
No worries at all mate. Yeah, you sure dont have to take out a bank loan to travel this great country. The simple gear works a treat for me. Thanks a lot mate. Cheers Tim
