Delta Pros + Smart Home Panel - Battery Discharge Error Unresolved
In this video, I try to explain an unwelcome issue that has developed with one of my smart home panels and accompanying Delta Pros.
Over the past 1-2 months, my smart home panel which is dedicated to ten of my 110v single phase circuits has been exhibiting odd behavior. When one ore both of the delta pros are near full charge (100%), the Smart Home Panel will "trip" and the logs show a battery discharge error. It switches from battery power to grid and then back to battery again.
This is more disruptive than a simple switch from battery to grid because of the double switch and causes sensitive electronics to reboot or lose power if they don't have a UPS supporting them.
I've opened a case with Ecoflow for about 2 weeks now. They've tried a number of basic troubleshooting steps including the latest firmware which is supposed to help address this specific issue. Its perhaps slightly improved the behavior (occurs maybe 3x an hour instead of 10-15), but still very problematic and potential damaging to electronics like TV, Fridge etc.
The only workaround is to feed the SHP from one delta pro instead of both. When I turn off one of the delta pros, it doesn't matter which, the behavior goes away. This tells me the issue is clearly related to load balancing between the two delta pros somehow. This "discharge error" is a misnomer as the delta pros are working fine.
This workaround keeps power flowing smoothly to the single phase circuits but I need a permanent solution as I really need both units in tandem to really power these house circuits.
Ecoflow says they are escalating to a senior tech resource to investigate further. I'm keen to find a permanent resolution but thought I would at least post this video with the problem, the behavior and the temporary workaround I'm using at the moment. Hopefully more to come!

    We have this same Costco model. We used it for about 2 weeks, in bucket mode (we empty the bucket manually). It was working as expected until today, when we had water dripping out of a downstairs air conditioning vent. The dehumidifier is upstairs. It turns out that the water was spraying out of the pump drain outlet, which it has not done the past two weeks. Although no one in rhe house has admitted to messing with the buttons on the control panel, I discovered it was in "pump" mode. I checked page 23 of the manual, related to the pump drain outlet. The diagram and instructions made no sense to me. It referenced a drain plug (that included a gray circular piece) that was not visible on our unit. I have been trying to figure out if it (this drain plug) was never there, fell off and is lost, or if the manual (regarding this pump drain outlet/plug) is not accurate information for this Costco unit. So ... Word of warning ... Make sure that no one turns the pump on, inadvertently, if you intend to manually empty the bucket. Unfortunately, that pump button is right next to the power button. It would be easy to accidentally turn that pump on.

    • @DanielGoodwin-jq1oc
      @DanielGoodwin-jq1oc Před 8 dny

      Good experience to share! It is easy very easy to "bump the pump" button and not realize it! :) Definitely a risk if you're not expecting it. The pump does work very well but yes you definitely need the 1/4 pex tubing to direct it somewhere safe!

    I just received my EP DP2 this week and have been so confused by the XT60I wiring because of conflicting information. It came with a 12volt car charging cable.. and with a multimeter verified that the flat/square side of the XT60I was positive.. BUT the center tab was ALSO connected to the positive side. Is this how EcoFlow controls the incoming wattage? The center tab bonded to positive is low wattage, bonded to high is High wattage or will the wrong one short things out? Ultimately I’m trying to make sure I can connect my Dokio portable panels (SAE connectors) to the Delta Pro 2 at full power. 🤷‍♂️

      Yes, correct it will automatically maintain that level of humidity (kicking on when the humidity gets above the level you set). My issue was that I was trying to set the humidity level too low (35%) and so it was running all the time. At a more reasonable 50% humidity, it just kicks on every once in a while and drops the humidity level back down to that, a much more reasonable usage.

      It's not about whether your basement is cold or hot, its about the humidity level. If your basement is humid (and many basement are) then a dehumidifier is a great idea to keep the moisture levels within a comfortable and safe range. With too much humidity even if it feels "cool", can cause mold to grow etc. The nice thing with a dehumidifier like this one, you can set it at a particular range (50-55%) and it will only run when it needs to.

  • @MichaelGrigoriev
    @MichaelGrigoriev Před 15 dny

    35% is a very low target for US summers, and it's quite likely that you'd need a unit several times the size to achieve it. The square footage is something manufacturers quote because it's easy for consumers to understand, but it is not really the most relevant metric. What matters more is how many air changes per hour your house gets, as determined by what kind of ventilation it has, and how air-tight the construction is. The latter can be measured with something called blower door test. Corbett's Home Performance channel has a detailed video on dehumidifier sizing: czcams.com/video/mQTCl8c3Plw/video.html

    • @DanielGoodwin-jq1oc
      @DanielGoodwin-jq1oc Před 19 dny

      I thought I had some footage of it but I couldn't seem to find it when I put together the final video. The pump using the small 1/4 inch white hose that comes with the unit. On the back there is a small compression fitting that you slide the hose into, just press in until its snug and give it a light tug to ensure it doesn't easily pop out. From there, on the unit or in the smart app you can just turn on the pump. The container does need to be inside the unit. It will fill up the container and then when its close to full, it will pump the water out through the hose. What I did at first to ensure the pump was working well was put the hose into a 5 gallon bucket to make sure it pumped water into that. After feeling confident it was working well, I set up a permanent place for the hose to drain. Hopefully that helps!

And thanks for pointing out that the pump isn't going to do *anything* until the container is filled with water. That seems odd but I guess that's just how dehumidifiers with pumps are.

    I have one of those, also bought it from Costco. It does well in its intended location - unfinished basement of our house which does not have any air conditioning, where the noise is irrelevant and where it isn't running all the time because there aren't multiple sources of water evaporation. I just set it to 50% which is a perfect humidity range for unfinished basement that is primarily used as a storage. It is also pumping water straight into the utility sink (which has its own electric pump that pumps all water straight into sewer pipe).

    Lots of comments for using it as a interface only filament. I absolutely agree. I speed up the print, make the support/raft interface the only thing using the interface filament and set "support/raft base" to the same filament as the model. This results in not swapping for interface filament until the supports are actually 1 to 3 layers away from contact with the model.

    I've been dealing with this issue for the last 3 months. My 765 cfm does this with the 4amp, 5amp and 10amp batteries. I actually dropped it off for the 3rd time at Northern Tools to be serviced today. Ego customer service claims that it shouldn't shut off after pressing the turbo button for an extended period. It's definitely a manufacturer flaw that should be recalled, but Ego refuses to acknowledge. Maybe a class action lawsuit would change their minds. This tool wasn't cheap.

    I’m using the EcoFlow 800 watt alternator charger in my van to keep my Delta 2 Max power station charged. I would like to expand my power supply by adding more battery’s. Hoping to run a 12 V air conditioner….. how would I connect the delta 2 max + extra batteries + alternator charger such that the alternator charger is keeps ng the entire system charged? I could add a big 48v battery to the delta 2 max via the solar charge input port but how would I keep that extra 48v battery charged with the alternator charger? Also, I could just buy an extra delta 2 max battery but how would I power an air conditioner without being forced to go through the AC|DC converter and wasting power?

      If I'm following your use case, I'll have to be honest that do accomplish something like this is probably going to result in an inefficiency somewhere...probably along the lines of the AC/DC conversion. You could use the DC out of the Delta Max with a DC-DC boost converter to trickle charge the 48v battery over time.

      @@DanielGoodwin-jq1oc so I would like to have the 48v external house battery charging the delta 2 max at around 700-800 watts in via the solar input port…. That keeps the delta topped off… the question is how to then alternator charge the external 48v battery at the same 700-800 watts…. I could maybe install a second alternator (48v alternator) would it be wired directly to the 48v battery with nothing in between? How does that work? Next, if I ran a 48v air conditioner direct DC off this 48v battery at say 700-800watts? Then no AC/dc conversion losses? The delta 2 max would essentially just be sitting there connected for extra power when ever it’s needed…. This is all so confusing…. Why on earth are these EcoFlow units not set up to run more power out of their dc outputs? I have practically zero use for any AC power

      Got it. Ok I understand better now. First, the EF alternator charger likely won't work for the 48v battery (at least not without modification). I've not had first hand experience with the alternator charger so I can't say for certain but at a minimum the connector won't work. However, you should be able to find another alternator charger, I know Renogy makes one that would likely work for charging your external battery. Regarding your air conditioner question, I'd recommend looking at the specifics on the AC unit. If it truly does use 800w or less than theoretically it should work (not while the battery connected to the Delta Max at the same time of course, otherwise you'd probably have a combined draw of 1,600w on the battery).

      @@DanielGoodwin-jq1oc ok so maybe a better plan would be to have two alternators? On the first stock alternator have the EF alternator charger and the delta 2 max (run 2 max air fans, a dc fridge, a heated blanket, cell phone chargers)….. then have a second alternator (48v) and a separate renogy alternator charger to a much larger 48v house battery system (I’m thinking two server rack battery’s for a combined 10k kwh) and have the 48v air conditioner running off this….

      You can just replace a broken blade, its very simple process you just press in on the button and slide it out for a new one. You can buy a large pack of replacement blades for a few dollars on Amazon.

    I have a feeling it goes to low power first because of the noise. They should probably recommend hearing protection as you can't go from low to off without using the high power mode. It's gives me a slight headache when it hits high mode.

    Found a hidden feature. The filters can be fit onto the blower end to clean. Not sure how well they clean as mine is brand new. But it's hypothetically a feature. (Model: HL-123) It's green/blue with grey. In fact I'm cleaning my 3 in1 black and decker mini floor vac with it (including cleaning it's hepa filter) and then using the reverse function on the metal filter to blow it all in the garbage... Seems to do a decent job. It is a little messy though. I assume this is why it's advertised as a car cleaner. As this is more useful outside than it is trying to get a bunch of dust into a trash can with a blower. It's fundamentally useful though. FYI, got mine for 42 dollars(45 with tax).

      This may not be true of the white version. I have a green version with a weirder backing that looks like a cog. It fits on that back part. I wonder if it fits on your model as well. I'm guessing at least the inner plastic circle of the filter will fit over the blow side for quick cleaning.

    I completely agree with the backward compatibility issue. They could have developed an adapter so the new products would connect directly to the Smart Home Panel 1.

    • @tlteal

      They abandoned, those of us, who made them wildly successful and the "no backwards compatibility with the DP & SHP1 is going to be an issue. Sure, it's backward compatible with the Extra Battery but the original Delta Pro has become a boat anchor that they clearly aren't planning to support. The 150V limitation still exists when others have proven they can do 400=500V in these all in one inverters.....
