Hey man, is there some kind of o-ring under the boot to keep trans oil from getting out through that hole (the hole where the shaft comes out and attaches to the shift lever)? I'm trying to convert a FWD case to fit an MR2 and not sure what kind of seal i should put in there when I install the shaft
I beleive your missing the three screws behind the quarter glass vents cover. Without those screws water will leak inside the car when it rains.

Did you remove the engine or that is how you bought the car. Either way a great deal and good bones bones. Definitely needs the 2gr.
The engine/tranny was out of the car when we got it. They had drop the motor to do a water pump replacement but the owner never showed up.

I have a k24 in mine…kinda wishing I went 2GR though tbh. Only thing I like is having the 6 speed trans although it’s not as strong as the Toyota 5 speed.
Yeah man but dont knock yourself too much the k swap is a good swap. You dont get that F1 sound but very good engine.
K24 all day, K Series will rip a 2GR all motor as well. Just a better engine. It's the ultimate.

Seen 2GR stock for stock beat the K24 on track and at the strip. Modded maybe a different story but stock NA the 2GR is king. But respect your feelings.

What if you already have a JDM GEN 3 3sgte turbo that runs good but you want a 2GR turbo. Is it worth it? considering keeping the car for the long run.
I personally would wait till you 3sgte goes out then upgrade to the 2GR. It would be up to personal preference i myself like the 3sgte better but that’s just me.
@@mr2dailydriv3n thank for you reply. So forget to mention I bought the car with a bad transmission. So is it worth installing the new e153 (which I already have) on the 3gste or wait until the I'm ready to do the 2gr swap instead of installing the transmission twice?
@justinortiz3448 swap out the new tranny and ride!!!! If you want to really go 2gr then Start piecing it on the side but in the meantime enjoy the mr2 with your new e153z

In CA with smog, CARB and the police stopping and inspecting, either a stealth build 5SGTE or go to the trouble of getting a 2gr CARB approved. Stealth 5SGTE = 5S block and crank, delete balance shaft and gear, Maxspeed rods for 5S. (Yes they make them) Weisco or Thrum pistons from PSI, maybe add oil squirters from a mini Cooper S to cool piston underside, tidy up the top end, maybe valve springs, a reworked turbo with stock housing aka CT27 from ATS or risk a cheap Mamba turbo, stealth plug and play standalone that fits in the stock ecu box and now you've got an easy 300whp, addlarger injectors and newer turbo, and that's a durable 400+h.p. that rips. Intercooler is unregulated in CA, so feel free to upgrade that without penalty. Absent the obvious turbo swap, that will be a nice setup that will last and still give blow off eargasms.

Has anyone tried the 2/3RZ or 2TR? The Truck motors would make for a nice throttle response.
Not that i know of. The hardest part is being the first one with a unique swap just because the motor mounts would be custom and costly.
I’ve been thinking of the new v6 turbo tundra motors for an mr2.
Does this stop the airbags from deploying correctly?
There aren’t any airbags on my dashboard but am pretty sure for those that do that it would cause some type of delay maybe even issues with deployment of any air bags.
@@mr2dailydriv3n thanks, I was curious about doing this to a build but I feel better with my airbags being able to deploy. Been in a few accidents.

Nice job brother keep them vids coming!!! I just took off the Suede off mine cause it was fading and looking dirty. Got something sweet as replacement. It was hard cleaning it all up though i tell you that.

Yes you could pretty much place it anywhere in the interior. I plan on doing my door panel/cards and pretty much the whole interior. It sticks pretty good!!! Now i dont know how durable it will be but only time will tell.

Pure awesome man glad she is a garage queen they are getting harder to find in good condition. A lot of them have a ton of rust here in the states its just a killer.

I have a k24rbb that I got cheap. Is this worth putting in the mr2?
You are the only video I've seen of this. When I did this it wasn't clear where exactly it should go on the selector shaft. I got it on securely but possibly too far in or not far enough in. The boot was the only change I made in the shifting system and now I can't go through all the gears. Any tips on where the piece you removed is supposed to go on the selector shaft?
There is like a small lip on the actual selecter (metal piece on the tranny itself so you rotate the selector shaft till that point. Did you reinstall the pin that goes inside???
@@mr2dailydriv3n yes, I reinstalled the pin which locks the collar onto that shaft. It just didn't seem like there was a clear place that the collar was supposed to land and lock on. I didn't see a mark. If you used a guide, video, or link, please share it. I have a 93 service manual but it doesn't really say anything about this element. Is the locking collar just flush with the end of the shaft?
@@jferreira879 yeah my tranny has a small hump or may i say a wider part on the metal piece itself that limits the collar to continue and locks it. I just measured it and its 1.5 inches from were the rod begins. I could snap a few pictures and send them to you if you would like
This did not work for my 89 aw11. trying this just severely damaged the metal around the keyhole
This is how i continued opening my trunk since i swapped out my tail lights has been over a year and works perfectly. Idk why yours was damaged sorry it didnt work out for you
@@mr2dailydriv3n No worries. Since this method damaged the tail light I decided to just smash the tail light out, then dig through it to get the trunk opened. Turns out the reason why the lever stopped working was because the red cable end bit had fallen off the little bracket on the trunk lock, defeating the entire mechanism. Now im on the hunt for new tail lights, and I guess ill go to a Toyota dealership to order new keys and locks for the entire car.
