There is an ultimate lesson in intimacy that many will not face until already in the grips of their last breath of life! Whether climbing Everest or trying to reach one of the many other pinnacles in life that we set for ourselves: "Pride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. He that handles a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusts in the LORD, happy is he." (Pro 16:18-20) I have never been able to separate myself from a soul facing his or her self determination in eternal damnation of soul! To me, it's like walking off or sitting, with hands clasped, arms folded, and watching someone commit suicide! Just writing off another poor soul who has made a bad choice for themselves is not an option! The certainty of a deathbed is not an ideal opportunity for assiting anyone in a life choice but a Believer in Messiah Yeshua has the responsibility and ordination from Father God, as an help meet! As a born again Christian, I am my brothers keeper! I could never go back and get this shot (opportunity) again, neither could I ever sleep again in peace with the haunting memory of someone in my realm of influence having died, in the commission of the ultimate suicide in unbelief: that eternal death of soul; forsaking our Creator's salvation, already purchased, in His perfect blood sacrifice, of love! Even on the broad road, there is a traffic jam leading to destruction. Throughout life, we all are climbing, in the deathzone, of sin, not without oxygen but without our Savior and His Holy Spirit! "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to the grace of God, which gives us the victory through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ." (Isa 25:8, 1Co 15: 55-57) Love in Messiah, Richard

When people do something so risky (& borderline stupid) like climbing Everest without oxygen, then you can't expect others to risk their lives to save them when it predictably goes wrong. Adults need to be responsible for their own actions.

I think Cathy O'Dowd spoke the real truth here! Being a woman who has both lived..&..breathed This Extremely dangerous sport in real time. When you consider a soldier within live theatre has what they call the "Golden Hour" In getting a casevac!!(air support more than likely after incident) to a team of medical experts with the much needed expertise! With all the support which goes with such. Their colleague's with trauma experience.&. Albeit limited equipment to help in the interim. Mountaineer's unfortunately don't have that through varying different detrimental precursors. Tis extremely sad! Though i do think from watching varying summit attempts.&. success. These souls very much know within which they are up against! Cathy obviously very much knew her own capability @that precise time. In deciding to turn back. Was very much her own right call. In doing so could have been the deciding factor in her being alive today. Sometimes better to acknowledge when your up against it. Call time on. .&. Live to fight another day

She starred in the documentary, "The Dark Side of Everest," during which she stated, but did not disclose here, that Fran very clearly said to her a number of times, "Don't leave me." (In that video, her facial "affect" was also way off. She smiled constantly during her retelling, which almost everyone watching it was/is completely put off by. There is much, much more to this story. If you dig, you can find vids of top climbers who were on the mountain during the weeks of the Rob Hall/Scott Fischer + climbers tragedy in 1996, stating how highly disdainful they were universally of the actions and non-actions of the 3-4 members of South African team of which she was a part. I should say, of those who were left. Even before any of their climbs were attempted, 4 or 5 original team members quit. They picked up all their gear and walked out of basecamp. For more info. on the serious problems with the 3-4 members who did climb, also watch "Storm Over Everest." Both the documentaries I've mentioned here are, in and of themselves, exceptional. Cathy makes some valid points here but... Thanks for the interview.
