Does the Cable Car have a use?
zhlédnutí 10KPřed rokem
In my first video of 2023 we discuss the dangleway located in London's East End and weather it actually has a practical use. Footnote: You don't have to pay an extra £15 to use Oyster and Contactless. You can pay the base fare of £5 with both of them but you still have to queue for the cable car regardless. If you pay £20 in total with any method to skip the queue. Oyster and contactless can be...

The 1983 stock actually entered service in 1984. With the second batch constructed in 1987/88, these trains were only in service between 10 and 14 years before being scrapped. A criminal waste.
In my opinion The original rockwell red and blue logo is the best DLR logo
I think you you missed one of the stations reincarnations, When the 1960s station was built, which took some time, another station hall was built on the opposite side of the track (towards Grahame Park). If you stand on the platform, and look up towards the retaining wall, you can clearly see the part of the brickwork where the hole was made for the stairs.
Very interesting video love it
Now Im curious about a race between the Cable Car and the bus once Silvertown Tunnel opens, I believe the 129 bus will serve that part of Silvertown. But as of right now, Boris Johnson has done nothing to solve East London's river crossing issue. If he wasnt such an foolish, incompotent moron or if Livingstone still had his way, We wouldve had a new bridge in Gallions Reach linking Beckton and Thamesmead with pedestrian and cycling routes and a DLR extension to mirror the route. More cross river buses wouldve have been implemented and improved East London transportation.
Tower Bridge is still the cheapest way to see the sights, even though you're not as high up, but it's only £12.30p on most days.
When they rebuild the station and reopen it in December 2024 I really hope they keep the delightful green benches
Pls do a video about the Croydon tramlink
There is a proposed idea to extend the overground over the river to thamesmead
I agree there is no reason for an IKEA to appear on the map
There is also an original dlr logo at west Brompton
I love these videos keep up the good work 👍👍
Well done 👍👍👍
I started working for British Airways in 1983 and used to use this station daily. I totally agree with your thoughts and description about it being a time capsule.
To be honest, I think tfl should have kept the Charing Cross branch like on the northern line and have a Charing Cross branch and a Stratford branch via Westminster. That could’ve worked instead of abandoning the station.
Very impressive collection you basically have all tube maps from the early 2000s👍👍👍
Very well presented. I think it was quite pointless building the station if it was only going to be open for six months
3:40 Very true. At Canary Wharf, I noticed it said East London Line. Very strange indeed in 2024.
Was at earls court a week ago and saw a sign for the piccadilly line with an obviously blanked out aldwych branch
British Airways is circling the plughole. Diversity and inclusion takes priority over everything else. The aircraft are tired and worn and the service second rate.
1999 tube map
This channel sould be rebranded as the Boring Virgin
The story of the jubilee line In 1979, the jubilee line was opened on 1st may by the prince of Wales and that will run from Stanmore to Charing Cross and the new stations are: Canons Park, Queensbury, Kingsbury, Wembley Park, Neasden, Dolis Hill, Willesden Green, Kilburn, West Hampstead, Finchley Road, Swiss Cottage, St John’s Wood and Baker Street, well it temporarily taken over the Bakerloo line but there are 2 new stations! Bond Street that will change Central line and Green Park that will change Piccadilly and Victoria lines! And then it will temporarily terminate at Charing Cross that will change Bakerloo and Northern lines! In 1983, new trains are arriving in the Jubilee line! They will make a fleet line and it keeps going to Thamesmead West! In 1992, they decided not to make a fleet line to Thamesmead West, they will just create and terminating at Stratford! The new stations are Westminster, Waterloo, Southwark, London Bridge, Bermondsey, Canada Water, Canary Wharf, North Greenwich, Canning Town, West Ham and Stratford. In 1993, work begins by doing Green Park to Stratford and it will end up in Charing Cross! In 1998, 1983 trains are run out of service. This is the 1996 stock in 1998! These are famous engines! In 1999, the extension to Stratford was complete! These are some of the most iconic futuristic platforms on the Jubilee line in Hong Kong, London Bridge, Westminster, Canary Wharf and North Greenwich! In 2006, the 1996 stock has 7 carriages. In 2017, The bright yellow have become silver and it has been refurbished! The end of the jubilee line
I think the issue lies with the budget airlines. British Airways (BA) observes the practices of carriers like Ryanair, EasyJet (though not as much), and Wizz. Despite their subpar customer service and fares that aren’t exactly “bargain” prices, these three airlines continue to attract a steady stream of passengers. BA seems to be contemplating, “Why remain British Airways when we could transform into Budget Airways?”.
A.J. Wells & Sons must be very busy with all the signs they make for TfL. Not only do they have to produce replacements for altered diagrams at almost every station, but also make the new signs for the new Overground line names.
You didnt mention Elizabeth line xx
1:18 lololololol it's one of the worst examples, it only skips 2 stations so, hah, gotcha
Flew BA to Mauritius last year on a 777. The experience was very basic. didn't feel special or cared for. staff just did their job and that was it. From being the worlds favourite airline that once really pushed the boat out, and was a world leader in Aviation to lackluster average airline... Very sad to see that passion gone
Each of the lines or sections of lines do have a unique look, it’s like stepping through different eras such as departing the Bakerloo or Northern Line for the Jubliee Line or vice versa.
When Surrey Docks station, then on the East London Line, was renamed Surrey Quays, brand new signs were installed a few weeks in advance with the new name, but with vinyl stickers with "Docks" on affixed over the word "Quays!!" These were peeled off on the day of the name change. The same technique was also used at Southgate tube station when it was temporarily renamed "Gareth Southgate" for a few dsys!
Thanks, bud 👍
You've Done a Good Job With The TFL Three Channel Keep It Going 👍
Piccadilly Line 1973 Tube Stock
Also at Heathrow Central the underground signs still say Terminals 1, 2 and 3 yet the announcements have already changed to say terminals 2 3 and 5 or 4 and 2 and 3
It need siding at terminal 5 for elizabeth line so Heathrow express go beyond airport?
Heathrow express need go beyond the airport join on South West trains track it turn 3rd rail go Weybridge cut over crowded on South West trains for same price from Waterloo and Paddington just like the Gatwick express going beyond the airport I think be a good service?
You can tap in with your Oyster Card, also the visitor Oyster Card and have a reduction of 25% and certainly on calm hours there is nobody there, so you can directly go to the cabins. So in that case the cable car would be faster. Also in the advent of combining ExceL! and O2 on a day or night it would come in handy. It feels like a futuristic way to travel, having London festooned with these ropeways everywhere in the city, Camden would be awesome (don't know if the locals would agree though). In a movie you can make it look like the metro station nearby that the lift is getting directly to the cabins of the cable car, or use the pink passage way over Custom House as a so called route entering the cabins platform. It was awseome at night, with the cranes.
Awful airline no matter what class you pay for.
It's a bit of a stretch these days to describe them as "British" Airways. They serve fewer UK airports than KLM, are part of IAG which is based in Spain, and which is 25% owned by Qatar Airways
The cable car is great if there is no queue usually in the winter and there is no 15 pounds extra pay for using a bank contactless card or oyster card its just the standard cable car fare, so when its not busy at all it's actually very good, a lot of times when I went there was no queue and made it straight up to the cable car pod
only thing that bugs me with skyfall is that they DID NOT ADD THE JUBILEE LINE SOUND
No, Broad Street station was immediately to the west ( ie to the left when looking north) of Liverpool Street station.. Also, the platforms were above street level - accessed by large staircases from Liverpool Street ( the street, not the station),
Very well, I think it still looks very futuristic
Residents grown old and need lift or escalator
And TfL is trying to add more step free access. It's not a long enough descent to justify escalators, lifts will provide full step free access whereas an escalator will not
You can always tell the Victoria line trains by their super distinctive accelerating and breaking sounds 😂
0:11 looks like one of the passengers has broken into the cab there.. I think she must have been in a hurry to get to Green Park to get home
I suspect if someone hasnt done it already you could make a 3d computer game which procedurally generates convoluted tube staty designs
Came here from the tfl three 1k subs video. Interesting. I pretty much agree with the views here and there. Its basically an overpriced novelty imo The cheap way for tourists to see views of London isnt really that much of a draw either. I believe you can actually book a place at the Sky garden for free if you give about a weeks notice and apparently you could book a table in a restaurant at the Shard but not right at the top to get reasonable views. I nearly forgot that you can get a pretty decent view of the city at the top of the Tate Modern. Plus im not really seeing why tourists would be over that part of London
