DC Comics' Starman: A History in 10 Heroes (in 10 Minutes)
In late 2018, it was announced that Joel McHale would be playing the character of Sylvester Pemberton, aka Starman, in DC Universe's upcoming Stargirl TV series. The thing is, Sylvester was never Starman in the comics - but at least nine other heroes HAVE used the name since 1941. So join Seb, from the Cinematic Universe podcast, as he takes a run through all the previous incumbents, and how they relate to both Stargirl and this new TV Starman!

The Doctor Who theme frightened the life out of me as a child, during the Tom Baker era. If it had been like this example of cheesiness I’d probably have found it hysterically funny. It’s a lot more 70s Starskey and Hutch than Doctor Who. I’ve seen bits of the John Pertwee era though and it probably would have suited his Doctor.

This is probably just a coincidence but kinda weird thought. Mikey had a mental breakdown at 30 years old in August 2001 just a month before 9/11 attacks and nearly committed suicide but was put in a psychiatric hospital. Then 10 years later just under a month from October he had a dream about his own death in September 2011 and was found dead October 2011 from drug OD at the age of 40.

As a "Doctor Who" fan of 52 years (that's watching the show, not my age) I'm fully qualified to say this is rubbish! 👎🤣 Now, what we need is for somebody to take Ron Grainer's score and make it a good DEAL better! 🎶👍🤣 ... (See what I did there?) ... Then, it can be released as a 45RPM, and be played on the RADIO, if it's not too PHONEY? 👍🤣... (See what I did there, again?) EDIT: It's 02:05 am, and that's the best I could come up with!

Ron Grainer was a genius. All of his arrangements are perfect for the films/tv series he scored (Steptoe and Son, the Prisoner, Tales of the Unexpected, The Omega Man etc etc etc). That's why he had the BBC Radiophonic Workshop arrange an electronic version of his Dr Who theme -according to his instructions which included requests for various sound effects alongside his music score. The workshop did a great job arranging it, but the claims of authorship by Delia Derbyshire are political rather than musical. If she was responsible, where are her other great theme tunes?

Thank you,. Seb, for bringing this arrangement to my attention! I've featured you in the end credits of my mini-documentary on the creation of the 1963 Doctor Who theme, which is followed by my new 60th anniversary arrangement. I hope you don't mind the shameless plug..... In "SPOTLIGHT on Doctor Who Theme 60", Dan Akers looks at how the original theme for the long-running BBC science fiction series Doctor Who was created in the pre-synthesiser days of 1963. Featuring the work of Delia Derbyshire, Dick Mills, Peter Howell and Brian Hodgson at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Then, a chance to hear Dan's 60th anniversary arrangement of Ron Grainer's timeless theme for a time lord, featuring the BBC Symphony Orchestra Core instrument library from London-based Spitfire Audio. "I'd always wanted to produce my own arrangement of the Doctor Who theme tune, and the show's 60th anniversary gave me the opportunity to do just that." said Dan. "I wanted to partly re-invent it, but at the same time I wanted to stay true to the spirit and creative intention of Delia Derbyshire's original arrangement, which is simultaneously beautiful and un-nerving, haunting yet hopeful; the musical embodiment of The Doctor".
