Making a temporary blackwater tank for my chili rasboras🌶️🌿
For this temporary nano tank I decided to add all of my unused driftwood and fill it with tannins. There are only 2 plants in this tank : Hydrocotyle sp."Japan" and Vesicularia montagnei 'Christmas Moss'.
Thanks for watching, hopefully It provided you with some value!

How I make my Moss intake sponges for filters 🌿🧽 I usually do this to prevent any baby shrimp or fish from getting sucked into the filter. It also acts as a planted section in the aquarium and is a great way to help hide the filter. The shrimp and snails love grazing through the moss and is always a great way to enrich the life of your livestock. Surprisingly enough its quite easy to clean and ...

Hii , which brand soil did you use in new setup ? And did you dose any fertilizers in new setup? If yes then which brand
For this tank it was fluval soil, and no fertilizer dosing
this music tho
😂
@@Studioaquascape legit reminds me of peak 90s aphex twin
@@FatherBanana112 oh totally! I found them in the CZcams audio library lol
Do the hair grass require Co2?
It is recommended to use Co2. But you don’t have to, it will just grow a lot slower.
Nice project! I really appreciate the cliff idea with a beach on the bottom. Two questions if I may: link to the filter - I am still lokking for small but effective casccade filter for sucha tank, the second the lights - what do you use?
Thank you! I’ll put the link in the description 🙏. The light came with the tank so I’m not sure. But here are the specs - 6500k Bright white overhead light with touch on/off button.
Hi looks great, can i ask where you got the filter from and name of it please
Thank you. I got it at a local fish store. It’s called Penn plax cascade 20 filter
Do you use regular stones and rocks from outside? Beautiful!
Thank you! Sometimes I do. These were leftovers from previous aquariums
wow amazing beautiful
gorgeous tank! new sub..i have been keeping fish since i was 14 and have always been a cichlid guy, mainly african and ive always had a single species cichlid tank too, right now its a black diamond, hes around 10 inches and full of character but im really interested in starting a small nano aquascape like this, it would be great to look at my tanks and for all the decor to be where i left it!
Thank you 🙏 You definitely should! I started off with Nano tanks because I didn’t want to spend too much money. Now I need more space before I can have larger tanks! Lol
This is beautiful and he's a lovely fish. I adore your cat too!
Thank you 🙏 she’s always curious as to what I’m up to 😆
@@Studioaquascape mine isn't interest, although she started drinking out of the indoor pond
@@PureAndShrimple hahaha yeah I need lids for the majority of my aquariums. It’s the sound of running water that they love
Aw, poor snail, lol. Will they actually eat them?
So far they’ve been biting the snails feelers off! Lol but they’re probably snacking on the bite sized ones
@@Studioaquascape oh no! They look so sweet 😀
@@PureAndShrimple they are 😊 it’s my first time owning Badis. They’re fascinating fish!
@Studioaquascape I've only seen the Scarlet ones and always fancied having them as I love nano fish
@@PureAndShrimple me too! You should try them! 🤩
you literally used co2 to grow this.
Not the back section though! Lol
The power of aquatic soil
Very nice tank
Thanks
Also store bought fancy substrate is so overrated ..i have tried with organic potting soil and eveylrytime the growth is way better
Probably true. I just prefer it for nano tanks because I don’t have to Capp it lol and it stays contained within the soil balls.
How without co2 plants will grow
I put enough plants to be satisfied with slow growth. But I will probably add co2 in the future.
Any of my tanks have CO2 and the plants are massive. I find it unnecessary.
Literally everybody
beautiful build and tanks stunning! new sub here🙂👍
Thank you 🙏
@@Studioaquascape your welcome🙂
I like it a lot. I especially like the idea of adding media for bacteria into the soil to promote their growth. Excellent looking tank.
Thank you! It’s also a great way to use left over media!
Lovely tank. Is that shrimp a chocolate?
The majority of my shrimp are from a mixed pool. So it could be a chocolate, just not pure lol
@Studioaquascape I've never seen one like that. I like it!
@@PureAndShrimple yeah, I like the mix too 😊
Oh wow, that's really cool! Maybe I'll put a couple in my orange tank as there are loads of ramshorns even though I hardly ever feed that tank!
Do it! Took a while for my population to balance. I recently just put more ramshorn in to keep these assassins fed lol
@Studioaquascape I do wonder if the amount of snails are stopping my oranges from getting enough food, and that's why they're not breeding?
@@PureAndShrimple yeah very possible. Add those assassins asap! 😂
@@Studioaquascape they're currently in a snail-free shrimp bowl. They'll think it's Christmas!
Do they not eat shrimplets? One of my shrimp tanks is overrun with pink ramshorns but I'm not sure about putting the Assassins in there...
So far I haven’t had any issues with it. If you have enough food for the assassins (ramshorn) they’ll leave the shrimplets alone. One of my first shorts was about this 👉🏼 czcams.com/users/shortspEKM-Aff8es?feature=shared
@@Studioaquascape will look!
Great video, thank you!
Subscribing! Please what lighting do you use? I’m uk based
Thank you! The light for this tank came with the tank and I can’t find it sold separately. But here are the specs - 6500K Bright White Overhead Light with Touch On/Off Button
Very nice! Subscribed 😊
Thank you! 😇
Never seen anyone else utilizing the intake of a filter for growing some moss 🦐 The video gave me a 💡for a little different approach ... Hopefully you will give it a try ❔ That way i'll get to see it in the future!!! So I would do the dry start method , that's going to get the moss growing from the freshly chopped portion either with a mini food processor or just like Mr. Amano would use a sharp knife & a cutting board. Then cover just over half the sponge and then cover the container with cling film . If you keep the lights on 24 and spray everything it's attached in 2weeks . Helps to have a fan nearby and I'm sure you can find a lava rock they grow moss the best 🙏
Great idea! Seems like a lot of work though😅. Although, I could probably cut the moss up a bit and it might latch onto the sponge a bit easier. Thanks! 😀
what rack are you using?
I found it on Amazon. They’re great! it’s called Clucycia 5 Tier Shelving Unit. I’ll also leave a link in the description.
@@Studioaquascape gonna check them out!
Tank looks great...new sub..
Thank you, I appreciate it 🙏
keep doing
Thanks 🙏
6 month Update on the video! No filter cleaning! No water changes! (only top up) No gravel vacuuming! No algae problems! No casualties! Small amount of moss trimming! Shrimp and Snails breeding! lush plant growth! and happy fish! low maintenance tank achieved 🙌
I found some in the wild
No they would be sticking out more
Yeah it did kind of look like she was juggling the eggs. But she’s so dark it was hard to see 😂
nope
Those are called seed shrimp or ostricods (I probably spelled it wrong). They are harmless and eat detritus and debris.
Nice
You say you have no co2 then whats the co2 drop checker for??
I suggest reading the description 👍
So this is misleading because a lot of people like me are scrolling and can’t get to the description. You should specify what you ahve grown without co2, some people might buy dwarf hairgrass thinking they will get a lush carpet like this.
Interesting. Thanks for your input 👍
Literally what i was thinking @freddys7137
People seem to forget that these organisms were once wild, and did not have access to excessive nitrates ammonia and CO2. That is only possible today with artificial fertilizers and concentrated nutrients. This is unnatural growth and will leave your plant dependent on liquid ferts and all the rest of the products they want you hooked on purchasing. I have 3 tanks right now all low tech and they all are growing wonderfully
Haven’t dosed the tank in over 6 months! Its even been without a filter too! The grass is doing amazing. I had a tough black hair algae bloom but cleared it up by adding more neos!
@@Studioaquascape keep on brother natty gang 💪
@@Studioaquascapewhat’s a neo?
@@TwinCitiesOxygen Neocaridina shrimp
Not really true, in the wild they grew in extremely muddy environments which release a LOT of waste co2 into the water. Those same environments are extremely nutrient rich and very hard to replicate in the tank without fertilizer
I've already successfully grown DH with CO2 before. Now i'm doing an experiment with no Co2
Hey nice job! Good luck!
I have grown it
But 🦐 and so lovely 🥹
They are 😊 that’s why I let them go crazy lol
What is that thing
Duckweed roots
It’s a CO2 checker. You leave it in the tank to monitor CO2 levels 😁
Litrally no co2? Any making of this video or how you mai rain it? 🥺❤️
He pumped co2 for 2 weeks then cut it off by the looks of how green and no dead grass but it's possible to without just need root tabs and fert and about 9 months of wait time
@@kylelaughinghouse1893 this grass was growing in an old scape. I removed everything and left the grass growing with no more co2. Theres a video I made on my profile of what my old scape looked like.
It grew in an old scape with Co2. But when I removed everything I left the grass with no Co2 😄
@@Studioaquascape how much did it spread without the co2? 😁👍
@@Studioaquascapeoh wait, the bare part is where it grew after the co2 was removed?
Woah what did you do to get so many shrimps?
I provided lots of plants and hardscape. I originally started with 6 cherry’s and 4 blue diamond Neocaridinas 😁 I plan on doing a more in-depth video on breeding conditions in the future 🙏
