Z32 Build - LS Swap - Twin Turbo - Part 7 - Setting up HF Pipe bender, Turbo Mock Up
Hi everyone, I'm Jared, and this is my 300zx LS Swap. This has BC BR Coilovers, 10.5" wide wheels/275 square setup. I am in the process of swapping twin Holset HE300WG tubos (natural gas, billet version of an HX35, with a smaller hot side), diy rebuilt-ish t56, McLeod RXT twin disc ceramic clutch, etc. It will be getting a TT rear end too, as I found one for super cheap.
In this video, I am using a trick I learned from a Blaser Builds video to mock up the turbo. I am also setting up the harbor freight pipe bender using a welded harbor freight grinder stand. This is getting fun!
Thanks for joining!

What year and model of Saab engine and turbo?
@@bakihanma7247 i think it was an 04-05 b207r. Just do some research, some of them have soft valves. I looked on car-part dot com for the appropriate engine. The b205 is a different family altogether
@@flux_core_fx sweet man thanks I'll definitely do my research on these. Planning on getting one of these to fit in the engine bay of my Gc8 without cutting the stock hood like I would with a tall K24 engine. Sr20 would fit perfect but there too pricey and rare now. I work at Lkq salvage and I see these ecotec engines everywhere
@@bakihanma7247 that would be an awesome swap. I believe the 06-07 2.4s have forged rods too. Those should be the ones with the oil cooler, but again this is going from memory. They should have come in the g6
Hey thanks man
It might have been helpful if you had told us WTF you were doing.
I had no idea that there were m8 to m6 adapter sleeves. that'll make things MUCH easier for me, thank you!!
@@turbo_co27 glad that helped!
Just found this. Great work here.
Why not keep stock transmission
I sold it a couple years back, otherwise it is Sweet trans. I have heard mixed things about how it holds up to power, but i had no problems with it behind a 6.0 before
No bushings?
Nope, trying solid mounts this time
Thank you for your efforts. It is appreciated for the benefit lf us all :)
I'm happy that it was helpful! Thanks for commenting
Cool tip I’m finding that to be the best method that doesn’t require any special tools. I have a metal bar that I think off memory is long enough to work on the passenger side so I don’t have to go out and buy something
I think that would work! Did you end up trying it?
We need you in the Saab world to help us find a way to use ECU's from other GM models on Saab. Your retro fitting skills are amazing.
Thank you for the kind words!! On Facebook, there is a group called Ecotec RWD swap, there are some extremely knowledgeable people on there. I encourage you to join!
We will check it out and join up. . There is a thread going on Saab USA forum of your video after I shared it there. You are catching some praise over there. What ECU did you use on this build?
@@jhallbitches123 oh, awesome! Haha, thanks for sharing! I used a Megasquirt for this one, an ms3x, it worked great!
I’m having the same issue please let me the solution
With the shifter location?
Yes sir
@@giovannideveaux2043 stay tuned! I will post results
Thanks
@@giovannideveaux2043 I've got a shifter on the way, I'll let you know if it works. So far though, I don't see a way to do this without trimming the shifter opening though
That z engine is so over engineered with no power.
There is a lot to be said about the rugged simplicity and efficiency of the LS. Not to mention the space savings, and sweet sounds :)
Haha u know nothing about the z motor Only people that don’t know about VG engines talk trash and do other swaps Haha
@@JamieGuzmam I had a lovely red 90 300zx for 6 years. Full restoration frame up with numerous engine mods + smog/sensor deletes. Yup I have no idea apparently🤷♂️
Nice work ! I’ll try my best to help out as well with a few tips I’m doing the same swap now
Awesome, thank you Kevin! Best of luck with yours as well
I think you commented on my FB post, subscribed!
The misinformation is wildly out of control. I dont know why people just talk out of their back cheeks, blowing smoke. Is it for attention or is it just to make others miserable? No idea. Maybe both. Regardless, I can give you some tips. Stay away from the forms for good information. Talk to some actual tuners and builders to be pointed in the right direction.
I'd love to do a zoom style meeting with a few others who have done these swaps and upload it. There are several people with an insane amount of knowledge on these swaps
I havent done but a few swaps of these and assisted in others, letting people pick my brain. Im a parts + electrical guy, and GM and Ford factory trained guy, but Im always game to talk with other folks geeking out on the swap stuff. Put together a couple frankenstein monsters out of ecotec motors before on a budget so there is fun to be had with them. You ought to also look into Vortec 4200 inline 6 for fun. @@flux_core_fx
Much quicker to cut in middle with die grinder and wiggle loose with vice grips. This happens when you reuse the old pins, or on the passenger side.
Hey man great info I’d love to ask you some more questions
Hi Hunter! Feel free to shoot me a message
@@flux_core_fx what’s the best way to go about messaging you? I’m not familiar with the CZcams interface lol.

I don't have the knowledge of a tech that works on these every day, but I have learned a bit about swapping them anyway
Thanks fat guy
What adapter did u use?
Awesome scrib!!!
Awesome how’s it going
Thank you! I got it running and driving, now it's getting a t56 and a new engine
@@flux_core_fx what engine are u going with? Where state are you in? I’ve done a few swaps Ej2.2t in a 60beetle Ls3 in z32 Vk56 in a hardbody Now my newest project is to yank out the vg30de and throw something new in was thinking LTG but I also have a 3.6 engine laying around it’s 2018 U got me rethinking

This is a friend's car, but I will see if I can get one! It sounds really nice when it's warm!!
@@flux_core_fx Appreciate it 😬
Are you using stock trans?
Stock trans (AR5) from the solstice, yes. I'm planning on making an overview video to hopefully help some people with future swaps
I just went through this PIA situation with Brembo calipers off the car. I had my calipers in a vice, but I used a 5/32 socket with a 1/4” extension and a hammer and smacked the pins flush with the caliper opening. Then I hit it through the rest of the way with a long punch, can’t remember the size punch. A caliper pin will work also.
They are a major pain, it makes all the difference to let them soak (if you can). Glad you got them out though!
How's the low end and mid range? Any dyno numbers?
I was pleasantly surprised with it, the car still has the stock converter and runs fine. As for dyno numbers, im not sure. It felt a good bit quicker than my 5th gen SS Camaro
Awesome work 💪
Thank you Rod!
