I was immediately obsessed with “Just Dance” when it came out but Art Pop is my favorite album

i’ve always felt like Perfect Illusion is about artpop and the response to it. Almost like Artpop was the era when gaga realized that popularity isn’t love and fame can turn into condemnation.

This is a truly magnificent list, however i have a question: Doesn't starboy has a similar issue to Beauty Behind the Madness? We don't see a proper storytelling in that record.

What are the songs that you play in the background, I love the jazz chill type vibes that have that 90s house soothing Otherwise enjoying the video, I wish ARTPOP iTunes festival 2013 was the final because it didn’t sound so over produced.

The more time goes on, the more I realize that Kissland is The Weeknd's best album. Kiss Land is also his most advanced project of him, the fact that there is a real concept through the story between him and a prostitute in a very advanced city and that there are no apparent signs of hits but only very symbiotic, poetic and coherent songs makes this album even more unique especially as it is magnificently well produced. Lyrically and vocally it's what The Weeknd has done best in an album and his storytelling in it is sumptuously told, songs like Proffesional, Tears In the Rain, Pretty ect....Remember that 3 or 4 songs in Kiss Land are easily part of the Top 8 of the best songs of The Weeknd's career. There's also some incredible foreshadowing in the Kiss Land album that leads into the Afters Hours album, in other words Afters Hours wouldn't have been what it was without Kiss Land. In 50/60 years Kiss Land will be The Weeknd's album that the The Weeknd's fans and even other people that consume music will call "the misunderstood genius album of Abel" and will still be on rotation in the playlist by generations of the next century.

I like the songs individually but I think it lacks cohesion as a full body of work. It feels as if Nicki’s label was really pushing her to finally drop an album and feels as if she just said “ya know what..I’ll give you the album, and I’ll name it Pink Friday 2 so I can really give y’all the hit album you’re begging me for”…but I think to the general public that it came off as a cash grab..At some points in the album it feels like it’s a fan made compilation in my opinion. She even said herself that some songs are from the queen era and I think you can really hear that when listening. Like The Pinkprint and Queen felt like she went into the studio with a set theme and concept in mind and made a unique album track by track if that makes sense. But PF2 lacks that conceptual feeling and uniqueness. Idk if it’s the samples, or the fact that she literally went back into her vault of music and compiled songs but I just wish she wouldn’t have named it Pink Friday 2 at least 😭

Really enjoying the vid, always like to hear others opinions. Wanted to share my ranking. 1. Kiss Land (BARELY just recently topped out HOB for me) 2. House Of Balloons 3. After Hours 4 & 5: EOS or Thursday (I honestly love both and I still can't choose between one to this day. Depends on mood probably) 6. Beauty Behind The Madness (Yes, very mainstream friendly, but the highs are just too good for to put it any worse) 7. Dawn FM (placed here for reasons very similar to what was discussed in the video) 8. Starboy (highs are really high, but it still kind of lacks what I really look for him, maybe too much of a "Pop" feel for me, which I dont look for from his music) 9. MDM (Only because of length, if it were a full 10 track coherent tape, most likely top 5)

For me, Chromatica was a sort of rebirth of what she was doing before....

IDK, in my opinion BBTM is such a cohesive album with so much memorable songs. It has the darkness of his earlier records, but also a more mainstream flavor. Also I feel like his vocals got better in this record.

We need a ranking of Michael’s albums.

This list is shocking 😳 I love trilogy ❤so much !!! But every opinion matters no hate ! 😊 the fact when he released trilogy at the time when I first listened to it I thought it was a band but didn’t think it was only one man and this man is breaking streaming records 😃 I went to his dawn fm tour with my son and his show was absolute perfection !

I mostly agree with you the weeknd most classics apart from his mixtapes are Starboy after hours and beauty behind the madness because from 2015 onwards was the year that weeknd became a star then 2016 starboy came out he became a mega star then 2020 with after hours the weeknd was like the biggest pop star in the world so those three albums are his classics Kiss land is a decent debut album Dawn fm was over shadowed due to lack of marketing and expectations from after hours

you said that ARTPOP marked the end of an era for Gaga as the unpredictable artistic genius. I think that might be because she was on her way to get more mature in a way that made her less "crazy" (is this the good word??). After the ARTPOP era she gradually changed her image to a more toned down and calmer. Also, Gaga said that Chromatica is ARTPOP's little sister, which is easily visible on the album and her actions from the era, so it's not like the ARTPOP concept is dead. I think that the same thing that happened to Gaga after ARTPOP also happened to Beyonce after 4 and to Taylor Swift after Lover, they just matured and moved on from fast and cherish sounds of eg. B'Day and 1989 to more mature sounds of BEYONCE and Folklore. Gaga just moved on, at least with Joanne, but despite heavy influences Chromatica is still more toned down than ARTPOP while also being personal and diverse.

I was never certain which Rihanna album was my favorite since Loud contains Only Girl and Man Down. Two of my favorite songs from any artist, genre, language, etc. But Rated R is always on rotation and I can listen to the whole album without skips, numerous times. It’s that album for me. 💿 🎶 💋
