As an investor, you are looking for an attractive price starting point, but the case with Bordeaux has been quite the opposite in recent years. What drives wine prices up is the perfect imbalance between supply and demand. The demand for heavy Bordeaux wines is declining, but the prices have yet to follow. Also, it is suggested that there has been an overproduction in Bordeaux, leading to the amount of wine exceeding the demand. We see quite the opposite in Burgundy, where production is extremely limited, and the demand for great Burgundy is enormous. The relationship between supply and demand is in favor of the investors, unlike Bordeaux. Furthermore, changing preferences are seen all over the Western world. Modern consumers prefer more easily approachable and elegant wines to go with a lighter diet and less meat consumption. If we look at performance from an investor's perspective, the Liv-ex Bordeaux 40 index is up by only 9.1% in 5 years. In the same period, Burgundy 150 is up 56.1%, and Champagne 50 is up 62.8%.
