HDM totally different than the pods. THE WORST WAS THE JUVE prison they had the most scary situation. Many times you would see Kids on the razor wire dead bled out. When I was there I got off the island four days a week to bury the indigen t at Potters Field on Hart Island. Had better food, best pay,$17.00 a week. And came back with the smell of death in my nose. But it helped to keep me sane and left alone by very superstitious inmates. You could smoke in those years so the old currency system in all prisons was in effect. Riot squad beat the crap out of us twice in c64 I to protect myself but everyone got beat. Good time could cut your sentence but very hard to do when you were short. Saw my first she male in there. She would dance and turned tricks. Day room always dangerous. My section used to make real coffee in gal peach tins by boiling the water with sheet ropes. Then they had a program called weekend jail. Which meant just that. Intake is where most drugs and gold stealing happened but you could be put any where in adult prison sentenced or not this was totally dicey when they found you were only there for weekends. You needed insurance ie bring them something next week use your imagination. Eme crips bloods didn’t exist then however whites blacks and Spanish only saw one oriental kept to them selves. I got by having the coin of the realm cigs and the get high. Some things to remember the morge truck decaying flesh digging uncle fred back up for the family. The co made big bucks from the funeral homes sometimes we’d get a couple bucks too. Only do Hart island in the winter couldn’t take it summer. I still have some finger bones. Only got beat up twice by guys going up state. If had to do more than a year and a day things good of been very different. Still one wrong step could screw.you big time had PSTD From this to this day. Dc Nassau county to queens house the tombs gueenssuperior court trial there eke worth

That was forty years ago. Crack just had started. Then every thing went to hell. Had five years probation todo on top of it It was still a very nasty dangerous place to be. I remember pheasants on the island and nobody knew what they were. I was able to make bond afford areal at tourney can’t imagine other scenarios. When you heard stories not being to make small bonds. Since covid the pictures of buriying dead on Hart’s island brought lots of memories back. Never was in the “bing”.

But what about people who was wrongfully placed in Jail in California, with time spent as an innocent man, now they trying to apologize, but it will never be enough, the ptsd is real as the sun. Because our justice system is based on money power and connections, I didn’t have them, other guy did, made up an entire new story, so far from the truth it was impossible for guilty verdict, nevertheless he was a surgeon, and much older than me, I was helping his wife, when I saw him beating on her. Then story changed to me, beating him up, and he never touched her, a complete new story and I still lost, no,apology can bring back time lost for doing nothing other then being helpful, and stoping a beating in front of me. Is California at least, it’s all about money power influence

The whole prison system is messed up. Yes one should pay his time for his crime , however should a human life be tortured and wasted for a mistake. A young person can go in for a year for a mistake , there brain is not even fully developed as an adult. They can experience so much that leads to possiblen PTSD , Sexually transmitted Disease, and whatever else . Thats a life sentence.
