I don't like this movie for two reasons, only one of which I think is dumb. The message is great. I wasn't born then, but it was needed. Black, white, green, who cares. But, that's not the way it was back then. The two things that bother me are first that Poitier says he won't marry the girl unless he gets her parents approval. Forget that nonsense. Be a man, and be an adult. Second, and this is probably a dumb reason to most is that I don't like Hepburn, and Tracy. I never have. Why? Because I don't like adulterers. I can't watch this movie, and see past the real people.

For me, the problem with the film was that he's too perfect. In every way, he's a dream catch, and she's kind of vapid for him. I suppose at the time, making things more subtle wasn't possible--this was already pushing the envelope.
