yeah someone else mentioned the same and i don't disagree. suikoden 1 and 2 definitely had tracks i can remember in 2024 like it was 1999, but i don't think there's any in eiyuden (at least so far) that i will really commit to memory.

Which is a shame, Motoi Sakuraba is a talented composer (Golden Sun, Dark Souls etc.) but his more recent stuff has been sounding more or less sounding all the same. Also, these overworld city and area themes pale in comparison to the western medieval feel that Suikoden 1 and 2 had.

​​@@thatanonwholurksmoar7386i haven't been able to upgrade weapons in a long time so i wasn't too surprised. i may come back with some combo attacks and buffs. i think the fire rune can increase attack for any party member

this is just me playing the game for the first time and without any guidance so truthfully you are going to see a lot of things that are not optimal

you are 100% correct, i eventually start doing that, haha!

i find it's usually more resource-intensive than i care for but i realized in the menus you can set up how auto-battle works more than you could in suikoden so i might play around with it!

there is a point where you can get to it, but not yet open it, which confused me too. at a certain point you open the exit to the left of where the pedestal that rotates everything is. you need to rotate at the pedestal to open up paths in the middle that you can only access by backtracking into the exit to the left, if that makes sense. for me, it was easiest to open the map, see where i hadn't been yet, and try to work backwards. but this is also made difficult by the flying devices being used to get you from some places to others, which don't appear as a path on the map. hopefully this makes sense!

@@kefkaex yes i opened both the paths in the right and the left and ended up exactly how you are at the end of this video. However in part 8 your door is already open and mine isnt?

​@@paulag.4525sorry, it may be that i stopped the recording early but kept going briefly after until i got the door open...hard to remember! i did have trouble with the door and didn't care for that particular puzzle. i hope you were able to figure out a solution

that would be nice! it's not something that was done in the original suikoden games so i don't think i noticed it here, but you can see how i "guess" when an enemy is close to 0 hp by when i target different enemies during my turn.

yep, this is how they worked in suikoden too, although there are some other changes too! it's more useful in this game since there's an MP system. the system in suikoden was funky and ultimately you were discouraged from using magic that much. the resistance runes are also different because they include ways to protect allies, while in suikoden they were essentially passive skills only affecting the user while taking a slot away. basically as I continue my playthrough you see me understand runes are better than expected!

no guide! just a lot of experience with suikoden 1 and 2 so i have a sense for when someone might be recruitable. in those games, some characters had limited times you could recruit them, and i just don't want to miss anyone in case I don't get another chance.

@@kefkaex im not worried about missing characters, im more worried about missing treasure chests because there's an achievement tied to it

not sure when the digital release happens! i know some backer emails implied some reward tiers can get it earlier than others? but since i got a physical i don't really know

i've only had one soft lock (i think the second video i posted). it happened while trying to edit the party formation, having two in front and two in back. that's the only issue i have had after about 14 hours and there have been two updates since then!

@@yuiakachan i checked this morning before playing and i am currently on patch 1.003 for the PS5. i haven't had any issues aside from the one above on the first day although there are some things like text strings/descriptions for certain items like statues that i think are an error and not what's intended. but i kind of enjoy this since the same happened in suikoden 2 🙂

i think it's as close to suikoden 2 as it can be, and it doesn't feel like a crowdfunded game at all - it feels much bigger. fantastic in every way. i think there are some things that it doesn't explain well, but that was also the case in the original suikoden games. i love the characters!

it's definitely a "classic" jrpg and for me the nostalgia goes a long way. i admit that it may not translate well to people without a lot of time in suikoden 1 and 2

yep, kind of with you on this. maybe the weakest part so far. the opening theme to suikoden 2 is an all-time great and it was disappointing that this one didn't live up to that. but as I got into some towns after this video like euchriss it did get better!

i backed the physical version and completed the shipping form as soon as i was able. it was fulfilled quickly and arrived for me last saturday

I had one soft freeze while making adjustments to the party formation on sunday I think - it's why I have a 30 minute video, maybe part 2. aside from that no issues and the game luckily has autosaves!

this is the PS5 version. my understanding is that the switch may not be 60 fps? i imagine it performs better while docked like most other games but don't know for sure

this duel caught me off guard, even as someone very familiar with them in the originals! there didn't seem to be a clear "win" among the three options, so it's not as simple as RPS. if it's a scripted loss i feel a lot better haha
