    I totally agree with you about signs of life in landscape photography. Years ago I was in a Camera club and with two other professional photographers we previewed over 1000 pictures in one night. Many of them were landscape shots and the biggest complaint that those two professional photographers had, all these pictures, and many of them were very very good. But they said there was no sign of life, and if there was a subject, they didn’t stand out from the background. They needed to have something red or something contrasting so it would stand up from the background. Excellent video thank you for sharing.Regards Gerry

    Practical suggestions. Prior comment said it first, but worth repeating - camera clubs. Live meets of like-minded folks. Here in US they have ebbed (some going as far as having meetings only on-line). What’s the situation w/camera clubs in the U.K.? Nothing like real-time, in-person give and take. Reference images a solid tip. Do you record GPS data so as to make it easier to revisit venues? Old axiom - children and dogs steal the scene every time. You know who the “star” of this one is.😊 Change in vid thumbnail image was prudent - dog in vid and dog in pic. Still, kinda one-off from theme, IMO. Cheers!

    So in the good old days I used 35mm format, 6x6 and 6x7. But the 6x6 was the interesting one and seldom did I shoot for the square it was 6x 4.5 on the portrait or the same on landscape. Now these days people forget about decimal points and shoot to the constraints, but it doesn't have to be 6x4 it can be 6x3.5 or any size you want it to be. But practicing shooting in various formats helps improve your shooting experience. That is an interesting little place you found Greg. First time I have seen a Basketball rig in a field lol.

    These are good suggestions. I would encourage others to give a little extra consideration to the third one - about pleasing yourself with your photos instead of being driven by what you think others want to see. Sure, you want a shot of every person at particular events. But, you'll never arrive at a personal style or "look" if you chase that chimera of pleasing others. It confuses people sometimes to see images, such as family subjects, that don't exactly conform to what they're expecting. Another aspect of this is taking "classic" scenes and pictures that will definitely please others, but for the purpose of getting them off your chest. Then you can move on to your own interests without a sort-of nagging feeling that can inhabit your mind when you approach typical subjects.

    • @DISTANTMEDIA
      @DISTANTMEDIA Před 12 dny

    My exact same sentiments with phone scrolling . I gave it up a long while back. I enjoy viewing photography on my desktop wide screen monitor with some nice soft tunes playing on some good speakers. I use VERO to share and view photography. No algorithmic feeds. Just follow and enjoy and the images display wonderfully full screen. Ohhh yeagh... Subbed ❤😎📷👍👋❤

High summer, 11am to 1pm, take a walk through woodland, the sun is at its brightest, the greens are so saturated it looks like you're using Velvia that has been on steroids. Effective post, theme, commentary and graphics. IMO “pause” icon not needed - redundant w/frame freeze and might tempt new viewers to think it was a YT pause (ok, or not 😊 but suggest not using it in future.) We all see the world differently and while “seeing a composition” (also “seeing” light and shadow) is a requisite skill, it’s acquired by training and practice. Some folks catch on quickly and some don’t. Two photographers side by side at the same location can come away w/quite different images - might make a good vid. Second beach scene a plus - layers, diagonal, and several textures. Cheers!

    Indeed - learning to see. I once managed to let some crook steal my camera, I think it was 1987 in Glasgow, while on InterRail. The following weeks after that, wherever I went I saw motives here and there and everywhere, saying "I would have taken a picture of that, if I still had a camera!" But when I had finally scraped together enough money to get a new camera, I had lost the skill to "see" and find things worth taking pictures of, and had to relearn that. Hard lesson...

Why would a photographer with 10000s of photos be importing them one by one to camera raw haha. Plus you just right click > edit in photoshop while inside Lightroom when you want to take it to photoshop. It keeps all raw files in one place in proper folders where you can change edits at any time - but if camera raw works for you that’s awesome everyone has different ways of working, that doesn’t make lightroom foolish, given it’s the industry standard I would say it’s far from foolish😂
