Lolita: Spirit in the Water

To the people who have shared her years in captivity, who train her, play with her and love her, parting with Lolita, the killer whale who has entertained children and parents at Miami's Seaquarium for the past 25 years, would be heartbreaking. To the marine biologists who object to the cramped quarters and lonely life led by this highly intelligent, gentle and emotional creature, Lolita should...
Orca: Killers or Gentle Giants

Killer whales were more feared than understood. Thanks to specially developed cameras, you'll see these magnificent mammals up close as never before. Spectacular scenes of orcas breaching, hunting salmon, their "rubbing rituals" and a rarely filmed birth at sea provide a unique window on these remarkable creatures.

Nightline: Keiko Comes Home

© 2007 ABC News Productions Inc. Keiko's rehabilitation and eventual release was the spark that stoked the fire against keeping these large and intelligent animals in captivity. Critics say it was a colossal waste of money and resources for one animal, while others say it was the start of a movement to eventually liberate all captive cetaceans.

Marine Biology Research - Original Shamu and Kilroy

Very rare vintage footage of the first killer whale pool at Sea World California. There's not that much footage of the original Shamu! This video gives good close ups of her face and body for identification. Also has some pretty good close ups of a young Kilroy.

almost half of the world’s orca populations are doomed to extinction because of Pollution. SeaWorld captures these animals to rescue them from such harmful substances and dangers in the ocean. They are not “fOrCiNg them to do tricks for fish in TiNy bathtubs”. They are taking great care of the killer whales and trying to help keep the killer whale population. You guys want them to dump these whales in the polluted toxic ocean just to fit your agenda?? Stop believing pixels on a screen. #SeaWorldCares
After the incident, Corky adopted Kandu V's daughter, Orkid and became her surrogate mother.
Corky is so brave and a wonderful surrogate mother to Orkid, Makani and Ikaika
Seaworld did make mistakes back in the day, but this hasn’t happened a 2nd time so I think people should be grateful for that.
1:05 drinking while she lost 7 of her children, because of the space, the lack of care, the stress.
Or medical complications which would have happened in the wild also.
Ted Griffin's existence is such a horror for all the captive orcas.
It's so sad what happened to Kandu but I'm also happy Corky was not harmed. She is the most beautifully natured orca still in captivity the poor darling
❤
This is our son’s favorite movie ❤
Corky II first calf lived less than a month! The year was 1977. Now, here we are in 2024 and poor Naya just lost her 3 and 1/2 week old calf. 💔
A few days ago I read that Naya's calf passed. It just break's my heart, Naya is all by herself grieving, and I read she was in labor for 10hrs. Corky was pregnant 7 times and none of her babies lived past 47 days. Didn't people see the orca that carried her deceased calf for almost 3 weeks if that isn't grief I don't know what is. I am so worried about Naya's welfare are they keeping her or sending her to another facility.
Hey all you fucking hypocretes on u tube who the fuck do you think you are trying to expose sea world now you should of does this long time ago about sea world like back in 1999 before these orca attacks started happening in captivity when these animals have been kept there for 40years and you only react to this now fuck all of you and fuck off
RIP to the origins of orcas in captivity!! Wanda, Moby Doll, Namu, Chimo, and Haida. 😢💔
This morning 😒😒😒😒😒
I love Kona 2 so much
He admitted himself it was a lot of money thats all he was interested in
Hi, I'm a member of the Current Affairs and Culture Team at SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System). Our team is in the process of planning a four-part documentary series called "Whales and Me," which is set to air from November 18th to December 10th, 2023. Through this documentary, we aim to showcase the "Extraordinary World of Whales" and shed light on the "Global Crisis Revealed Through Whales and Life and Death." I'm wondering if we could include part of this video in our documentary for full credit. We won't use this video for commercial purposes. Plz let me know if it's okay to use it. Thank you.

Now there are seals in that pool.
u people are sick
this is reallllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyy bad
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😢
This is so fucking sad what they do to them
omg that tank is so small😢😢😢
Poor Orkid. She witnessed her mother's death. RIP Kandu. Orkid was raised by Corky, one of the orcas involved in this incident.
Son maravillosas dulzura las amó
Corky is a member of the Northern Resident orca community. She is from the A5 pod, A23 matriline. She has family in the wild - sister Ripple, brother Fife, niece Midsummer, great-nephews Fern and Ne'nakw, and great-niece Eliot.
This movie is what made me fall in love with dolphins and discover Seaworld. I watched the VHS in the classroom at school. Crazy to think one of the orcas was no other than young Orkid.
Still trying to find this documentary
Was she dead by the time she sank to the bottom ?
These people are idiots…. It’s a fucking whale. You can’t have one as a pet.
Those were the days guys those kids will carry that memory for the rest of their lives and I have seen some current SeaWorld videos from Japan and they are so advanced in this day with the ORCAS and still SWIMMING with them
Poor Corky.
11:54
Orky bred to corky 7 times. They were related and obviously the genetics where not good for one another. Orky had Kayla that lived to 30 and orkid 34 successfully with other females
You stupid POS 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😡😡😡😡I am sad poor orca
DON T CALL THEM KILLER WHALES AGAIN
Leave them alone 🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁
Namu didn’t accept his new home. He saw no means of escape and was just resigned to his fate.
Holy Shit when camera zoomed in to whale’s eyes amazing
What show is this clip from?
lolita is going back to the wild
The people should have protested right then and there
While on one hand a relief that it may not of felt it- it's sad that when they restrain the calf there's no real reaction from it. No thrashing or calling for mom - it just idles with almost no flinch response to the "stimulant" injection
Shamu was most of the time pretty friendly, but she’d easily get into moods, and you cannot blame her. The tank she lived in was too damn small to fit an orca in there LET ALONE TWO OF THEM!
The story of Shamu is so tragic. Shamu was born in 1961 off of Puget Sound when in 1965 she was captured. Her mother was shot with a harpoon gun and died right in front of her. Shamu was taken the the Seattle Marine Aquarium to be a companion for Namu. However, the two didn’t like each other so Seaworld bought her. The first Seaworld park was in San Diego and that’s where she went. She was the first orca to travel by airplane. She was named Shamu, because She + Namu = Shamu. She was usually pretty sweet, but she’d easily get agitated. She had a companion named Ramu and Kilroy. Ramu and Shamu mated and he was sent to Orlando, the second park to open. Kilroy stayed until she died. In 1971 Shamu attacked a young lady named Annette Eckis and rode Shamu for a stunt performance. Shamu was fine the first lap but the second time Annette got on and went halfway around the pool, she slipped and fell off, and Shamu grabbed her thigh and sunk her teeth in. Her mouth had to be pried open with a pole. Annette had to get 200 stitches. They blamed it on Annette being a woman and wearing a bathing suit when really Shamu got fed up and lost her temper. Later that year, Shamu died. Shamu was only ten years old, and the baby who she was pregnant with, died also. Shamu left a legacy behind just like Namu and their names were used in shows as stage names for the killer whales, Shamu is now at peace with her mother, Rest In Peace Shamu. Gone, but never forgotten.
Such a sad story. Killer Whales are so sweet. Namu was a sweetheart. When Namu died he was only eleven cause he was ten when he was bought. Namu was 9,000 pounds and 21 feet long. He was a big boy. A book was also written about him, it was called My Friend Namu. It was published in 1966. Namu and Shamu’s names were used as a stage name for the killer whales at Seaworld. Namu left a legacy behind that will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace Namu.
Not exactly the best legacy just saying
It was a blessing and a curse. The blessing was that people realized that orcas are not vicious man eaters, but are intelligent and friendly and we have no reason to fear them. The curse is that it pretty much kickstarted the orca capture business.
These animals straight don't need to b in captivity. Maybe if man is lucky they will return once a year to perform
